Nice New Shiny iPhone :censored2:

I just got back from the apple store, after lingering in the parking lot playing with my new toy for bout 30 min.

I arrived at the apple store at approx 5:15 this morning, i was about 40 something in line, after 6am the line grew to roughly 100 people, by the time i left the line was the length of 8-10 store fronts in the strip mall where the apple store was located (i'm guessing there was about 300 people waiting by the time i left at 9:30 am)

I was in the 2nd group of 25 they let enter the store, inside waiting on another shorter line and activation took 20 min for mine, others were out of the store anywhere from 5-15 min depending...

The first customer on the line, i learned had camped in front of the apple store since 2pm yesterday (nuts), he got a nice cheer from the crowd as he walked out of the store with his new toy. i only ended up waiting about 3hrs before i was inside waiting to get mine.

I haven't paid more than $50.00 for a cell phone in the last 6-7 years and passed up the original iphone.... i figured this was a good time to shell out for something nice. pretty slick i have to say

here's a couple pics :D

Arrived at my local O2 shop at about 6:30am, was 15th person in line, shop opened at 8:02am (get it?), and i got in at 8:45am, all the computer systems were down because of every O2 shop in the country trying to use them at the same time, had to sign up for contract manually, still glad i got one though :D

Me and a Friend bought the 2 last 16GB models on Telcel, I was at 8:45 AM (15 before telcel open doors) and 20 people was lined up there already.

I like it very much, I just wish it has speech commands for calling contacts.

after reading around on various forums on the internet about the iphone 3g experience, i see that there were quite a few that had problems activating the phone, glad i wasn't one of them...

I've been consumed by the 3g iphone since i walked out of the store with it on friday... and its been tuff to not touch it to measure actual standby time.

I installed a bunch of freebie apps from the app store and some of them kept crashing my iphone.

however apple released an "update" to the 2.0 software "upgrade" saturday july 12th, i believe....

Current firmware is version 2.0 (5A347) (if yours still says version 2.0 5A345 its not the latest firmware)

you will need to back up and then restore as opposed to just updating it straight out, in case anyone else is having problems

Got to the mall at 9:30, picked up a ticket (#8), came back at 10, activated my number, and walked out at 10:30.

Then got home to an iTunes Store crash. LOL.

I love it, already charged it 3 times over this weekend from using it too much. Over 500 mb of data used so far

Used Safari to find local bars, used the GPS to guide us. Then watched YouTube through the train trip. Thank god for portable internet!

No.

BUT I WANT ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm kind of like you, I want one but i'm in no rush and i can not abide the carrier in the UK (O2) so I can wait till there is a unlock solution and O2 start selling the pre-pay handsets (O2 say Christmas time, but when my friend got his 3G iPhone from CPW they said September :worried_anim: ) will wait and see...

Hope all who have one already are enjoying it! :)

If I'm not mistaken, 5A347 is a debug version of the firmware, and not intended for use with iPods currently on the market. I updated my iPod Touch to 2.0 5A345, and it runs just fine.

This, of course, may be for iPod Touch models only, and doesn't apply to iPhones.

In any case, if my dad decides to switch providers, I'll pressure him into AT&T. The new 3G, even if I don't have EDGE capabilities, is just too hard to pass up.

Hence why this is the "iPhone" forum. 5A347 is the latest update to both iPhone 2G and iPhone 3G and fixes the yellow-ish tint on the iPhone caused by 5A345.

In case you haven't read this yet...

Quoted from:

http://blog.iphone-dev.org/

So, currently (when released) PwnageTool 2.0 will support:-

iPhone (1st Gen) with 2.0 - Activated, Unlocked & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPod Touch with 2.0 - Activated & Jailbroken, (with support for third party applications).

iPhone (3G) with 2.0 - Activated, Jailbroken (with support for third party applications).

We’ve made some progress on the baseband unlock of the 3G device, but at this point PwnageTool will not support 3G unlocking or BootNeuter on the 3G device. It is, of course supported on the first generation device with 2.0. We’ll push out an update with 3G support if and when it is completed.

When i got my 3g from O2 shop i asked out of curiosity and they told me September for PAYG. I would trust O2 over CPW if i was you.

If you read my post again, it was CPW who said September to me not O2. :) It was O2 who stated Christmas at the time. If O2 have told you September as well then maybe that shall be the time. Although I'm thinking of getting a Swisscom handset when their P&G handsets are released for sale.

Just got my iPhone3g. nice little phone. I have a few criticisms. One thing, the battery life sux ass compared to my smartphone. It does a lot of cool stuff, but its going to be pushing it to make it 24 hours without a charge on this phone, even with minimal use as a PDA. I wish they had made the phone a bit thicker with longer battery life.

the other thing is that this phone makes WAY more noise with speakers around compared to my smartphone. I literally have to turn off the speakers by my computer if I want to have a phone conversation while sitting at my desk. Very strong interference coming off this phone. I am not sure if its the wifi or 3G causing the interference.

otherwise, I'm completely in love with it. As soon as I can figure out why I would want to jailbreak it and find all the cool ways to configure it and install cool software...I'm still learning and I'm clueless. Right now I just have 4 pages of app icons from the Apple store that are mostly 20 different variations of how to upload my photos to Flickr.

Well, I have gone back on my word and I have gone back to O2 UK :P

My iPhone 3G arrived today and i'm liking it at the moment although I have a strange bug - It will not sink any pictures from iPhoto, I get a error message stating that they can not be viewed on my iPhone but work fine on the 2x 2G iPhones I have.

I went for a 8GB phone in the end, I always change the music I have on iPhone/iPods so I don't really need large storage (still have 3GB free after a couple of movies too)

i noticed that too, lots of RF interference given off by the iphone 3G, i get buzzing on my sirius, computer speakers etc. doesnt' seem as bad as urs tho

Successful jailbreak using Pwnage 2.01 on my hackintosh !

appstore and cydia running along side one another, yipppeee
