Thrawnhex
I searched over the internet for zfs support for Leopard. I've found great page called "macosforge.org", which is like sourceforge from Apple. Now the Point is I found a really nice zfs package there, and installed it. The people who already used zfs in Solaris or other Unix' should know the tools "zfs" and "zpool". With this tools you can create format your disks to zfs and create mirrors or pools. Until now we are able to Read/Write to zfs dataspaces, we can use it for apps like iTunes and so on. But we are not able to boot from. A quick reference about zfs is here: http://zfs.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/whatis I've made a Script to install zfs easily. Download here: http://tinyurl.com/6c8gl3 Or original Page without Installer: http://zfs.macosforge.org ZFS for Leopard Sources by Apple Script by Thrawnhex --- Installation --- 1. Unpack the .zip in / 2. Run the Script "install_zfs" 3. If you see no errors the installation was successful. 4. Reboot. --- Hints --- Disk Utility currently does not support Zettabyte File System. To create/erase disks, mirrors or pools you have to use zpool or zfs tool from this package. Andy Vandijck
Yeah, I allready compiled up the sources, works fine. I also would like to see boot support since datapooling, and all of the other new stuff is impressive.
mdrobnak
Can we combine this with Boot 132 / Chameleon (EFI Partition) kext loading to support ZFS root? If not, I can still see a good use for this for /User data... -Matt
jarodsix
Little off-topic joke, but I visit zfs.macosforge.org very often for changes and nothing is moving there for quite a while. However I noticed a nice wishlist http://lists.macosforge.org/pipermail/zfs-...ber/001172.html [ To north-pole ] Dear Mother Noelmas! My Wishes for this Christmas: Please bring me : -Encrypted ZFS ( Very important ) -Bootable ZFS ( Also very important ) -Resizable Zpools -A nice ZFS GUI ( klickibunti! ) -Time Machine patch to handle snapshots and do my backups for me. - Peace on Earth Milk and Cookies will be waiting for you in Salzburg, since my chimney is not big enough you are welcome to use the front door. I hope my wishes will be fulfilled, since i was a very nice little boy this year ( sort of ). Kind regards, Franz Schmalzl ;-)
rschultz101
test drive solaris ZFS ,.... stubled on a french guy, did an solaris ZFS file server , for his mac pro,... ZFS sounds very promissing, .... do like to see some tests, reviews, benchmarks,... ... the scrubbing, is the only questionable thing,.... remember the defrag,.... locks u the machine,... everything crawls,.... should do it in the spare time, and no more than 10% cpu or disk speed penalty,...
