animegod
Hi, I've tried all patches and kexts for this lappy and none of them works. Mostly I got from taruga's wiki. The sound chip is ALC889 and I'm aware that there are kexts working for this on other mobo, but not on my aspire 6920G. I managed to install the kexts successfully and it shows on the info page, but no sound is coming out. The only output available on the sound info page is HD audio output, but still no sound. Has anyone managed to get the sound out from this lappy? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Colaveare
Another one here looking for the ACL889 drivers for the Acer 6920G The sound card is currently being found but I get absolutly no sound of the speakers or thwe jack. I currently have the AppleAzalia kext... Already tried also patch with AppleHDA kexts with the patcher and the 889a dump but then no card is being detected at all. If anyone has already made this chip work... Any possibility of telling us how? Also if anyone has made the 6920G WiFi/Ethernet card work it would be great to know. P.S. If anyone is looking into this just let me know how I can help.
guruk
Hi 6920g`lers, ok, so lets try in a team. what does we know? - we all have acer 6920g - we have a alc 889 chipcard - there are already solutions for other alc 889 types / so just ours looks a bit different - with the azalia kext we get shown an hda sound output / great so it could be just a small different. when i update with hda patcher 1.20 and ANY Codec Dump, i loose also that simple hda output sound information ... now the question.. was anyone of u able to make a hda patcher update with a codec dump AND STILL there is this hda output sound shown in ur configuration? If so, we are one step forward. I dont know how to code kext.. but to play with a textfile like the codec dumps.. is just try and error and needs time for sure.. but its a change to find the right settings. so.. does anyone of u have a codec dump and that hda output shows up still in ur configuration? any other ideas how to solve that situation for us... is welcomed greets chris
Colaveare
Well... Seems that someone posted this link in another forum for a 889 codec dump... I'll be able to try it out in a couple of days (had to lend my laptop to a friend) Possible 889 codec Dump for the 6920G
guruk
nice we start to have some activity here  i guess its the same codec dump i also tried... no result... always when in patch a dump with hdapatcher... i always loose the audio at all in my configuration... kings_freak
I have had the same problem. I also can't get the wired ethernet to work, but I know that belongs in another forum. I don't really know anything about coding either, but I would be happy to test any files or scripts that you guys come up with.
guruk
just before i forget: this found some linux hacks, how to activate the 6920g soundcard quote: . after some meddling around I found the magic incantations to fire up the amp / speakers on this laptop are to force model=acer-aspire in /etc/modprobe.conf, --- full article here ---- http://forum.mandriva.com/viewtopic.php?t=88199 > Build CONFIG_SND_HDA_HWDEP=y and you'll have /dev/snd/hwC0D0 device. > With the hda-verb program in the URL below, you can exec the verb on > the fly: > ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/misc/...erb-0.2.tar.bz2 Thanks for the hints and the applet... after some meddling around I found the magic incantations to fire up the amp / speakers on this laptop are to force model=acer-aspire in /etc/modprobe.conf, then using the applet from the URL quoted above: ./hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x15 SET_EAPD_BTLENABLE 2 I confirmed stereo operation... it doesn't react to headphone insertion, plays audio through speakers and headphone jack in that case. Didn't try 5.1 (this laptop has a 5.1 speaker set) yet but I wouldn't be surprised if that was trouble too. Still this is waaaay better than silence! Thanks again for the help. ------------ maybe someone find out how to convert this for mac!! .... greets chris
animegod
wow.. that's a rare find.. However, I believe none of the 6920G users currently had any experience with modifying kexts... How unfortunate for us..

aidencade
I know thatthis sound card is also a Pain in Linux.. But for SUSE they used the 883 driver base, as it's the same config.. And it worked.. seems to be the ICH8 Rev .03 that is the issue.. If that helps anyone.. Aiden

maciekish
Bump! I would love to see this working too. All the info i have found is that we need an extension called hwdep compiled in our driver and then send a custom command to it to fire up the sound. I found the linux version of the files here ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/tiwai/misc/hda-verb-0.3.tar.gz Could someone please customize this to make it work in OSX? Thanks MS

mr_christer
i was installing all possible audio drivers for the 6935g, none of them worked. it seems like this baby has a alc889a in there. it's just weird that it won't work. I guess our small community is still looking for a professional to fix this! for now i just attached logitiech usb speakers which work great with osx!
