acy76
hello all -- I've been triple-booting OS X, XP32 and Ubuntu from a single HD for a couple of months now without issue. The other day, a strange thing happened after I installed a new SATA drive as the first drive and installed a new copy of XP64 on it. Scenario: When I need to use the old triple boot system, I just use the BIOS boot selector and choose the other disk. If not, it boots into XP64 from the new Raptor. Since I already had XP on another disk, the default drive letter for my new install on the new disk was H instead of C, and (stupidly) I named the XP64 install the same as another machine on my network. I changed two things: from within XP64 on the raptor, I assigned a new letter to the old drive's XP32 install and I changed the system name on the new raptor XP64 install. After using XP64 for some CAD and 3D work, I wanted to get back to my favorite OS. Did a restart, booted from the 2nd disk and went into OS X. Here is the thing: now, when using terminal, the prompt (which, if I am not mistaken, displays the machine name) displays the name of the new XP64 install on another HD. System Preferences -> sharing still shows the old machine name, and I have never edited any config files. Now, this has not proved to be a problem, but I am left curious as to how changing something on a different OS on a different HD could alter my terminal prompt. Any thoughts? Thanks.
