Hi,

I am now having 8800gts 320mb video card so I did install the NVject thingy 320.

BUT.. it seems my 8800gts is even running worse than my laptop ASUS U5F's GMA950 video card...

I think I once saw a fix but just couldn't find it.

Is there any fix or solution? to get better video card performance??

Thanks

First:

How do you see / measure that the GPU is sooo slow ?

Very good Opengl Bench is OpenGLExtensionsViewer.

The Test is within the TAB : Test.

Run it in the highes resolution your monitor can handle and aktivate Benchmark Option.

Very bad and near useless is XBENCH !!!

Xbench OpenGL Values (and only they) arent real - alyway GMA950 are much faster than highend GPUs

The other values of XBENCH are ok, usable.

I saw that it's slow when i used F8 F9 F10 F12 those functions and also some small 3D games..

  • 3 months later...

I'm gonna bump this topic because I am in the same boat. After a while using my rig, the animations slow down, Dashboard effects look taxed, exposé just about kills all method of user entry before all the windows arrange themselves, and moving windows around the screen while watching QuickTime looks WORSE than on the integrated GMA 950 on my board...

So, does anyone know?

And no, I don't want to talk about OpenGL benchmark programmes as mentioned above. Scores are normal, but ... well, you explain why spring loaded Finder windows should look as though they're crawling?

ok i don't know if this is going to help but i have the same problem on my laptop but i know how to fix it.

1. On expose i put one of the corners set to "Sleep Display"

2. Go to the corner and put the display to sleep

3. Wake up the display

4. Try animations again on mine its faster

I dont know what causes the problem and i'm not sure how to fix it without putting the display to sleep.

best

this is truth

sometimes the core image of OSX slows down the animation A LOT and this cannot change

u can see frame skipping in window movement like minimize to dock etc (but not with qt movies)

for me i logout/login when this happens but i would like to listen other opinions

but this will happen if u "strech" the gpu (play a game (i have only spore on mac), edit hd video etc)

anybody can confirm that this happens also in real macs or your hacks?

I don't really want to sleep the display every time this happens, because it's unacceptable that the performance of the dedicated nVidia card should be worse than the integrated Intel graphics.

I wonder if I would get any love out of it if I moved up to 10.5.5?

no, it's the same.

maybe i'll open a thread to discuss possible solutions for this

it starts to get really annoying

That'd be appreciated. It seems to only occur when I'm using QuickTime ... now, I'm NOT going to give up using first party Apple software, because that somewhat defeats the point, don't you think? =]
