1.3.5 is still going beta and didn't work for me. Also, to avoid hassle and confusion for the OSx86 community (does not include MacTels), do not go and try just any files from the mcMAC site. Ask what has been done to the files, or what part of the files have been edited before installing, changing, and trying anything. I went to install the files blindly and learned the hard way.

I find other sources to be bloated and misleading with people thinking they're patching the right system and then things break. Not to mention with all the different revisions of FrontRow with enablers and Activation Scripts not working correctly. I am running 10.4.3 81111g and having to think twice about upgrading to 10.4.4 since 81111g is so well worked on. Well maybe later :)

I'm not sure how the real FrontRow works but this PowerPC version doesn't stay running in the background when I push a letter key, it just exits. To keep it in background, exit to desktop through ESC key. But it stays running in the background right after launch and it's stable. I still see some error messege in my console:

FrontRow still gives me the not able to connect to iTunes from time to time and tells me to push the play/pause button. Then what I would do is exit FrontRow to Desktop and relaunch it. On the first launch, try to play the first song from Songs list. AFAIK iTunes works, Videos is not stable and Front Row exits. This is probably due to the fact that all we have now is a partial working PowerPC version of Front Row.app on OSx86.

What we need is someone who can edit the universal binary version for no remote IR, just like this PowerPC version, then everything should be fine. We need a no remote IR binary edit of the 1.3.4 version of FrontRow.app for x86.

As of now, trailers work from time to time but not stable. DVD Player I haven't looked at. The no connection from server when watching trailers is Apple's end of the problem. Once working, it stays working. All features should work, but more developments should be done with one version of FrontRow until it works than bandwagoning onto newer versions. Credit goes to Aaron, the beta testers, and The Fifth Rule.

Another note is that purchased songs from the iTMS doesn't show the Album Artwork in FrontRow when the song is played, but the place holder is there...in black.

Remember to back up files before trying/testing. Please post results and findings.

INSTRUCTIONS:

Requirements:

1) Files from: http://www.mcmacsite.com . I cannot provide a direct link so look for FrontRowVortex.tgz in the forum at Support > Front Row 1.3.4 posting by VoRTeX15O

2) OSx86 10.4.3 8111g *read that 10.4.4 can run with some 10.4.3 BezelService files?*

3) Front Row Pre-1.3.4 Intel Fix.mpkg --> BezelService files for /System/Library/

4) Front_RowNoRemotePatch.zip --> this actual PPC app defeats the use of Activation Script

5) FrontRowMcMAC.sit version 1.3.4 --> if file is corrupted, just redownload it

Incase you're wondering, no Activation Script or any Enabler are needed - it won't do anything for these files. For many people FrontRow breaks the System Preferences keyboard and mouse pref from 10.4.3 up to 10.4.5. This is due to the FrontRow package installer overwriting the original /System/Library files with remote control IR sense enabled.

These are the files I've found in different places covering FrontRow. I've discovered how to work mine by accident so if there's a loop in the steps provided, well, hey mine works and the day is early...

1) Backup /System/Library/LoginPlugins/BezelServices.loginPlugin and /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework

Copy these files from the sit archive to the working Desktop and run them IN ORDER LISTED ON THE WORKING DESKTOP:

2) Download FrontRowInstaller.mpkg version 1.3.4 and NOT 1.3.5 from http://www.mcmacsite.com/ -> select only Intel and deselect PowerPC if check box is checked when installing FROM THE DESKTOP

3) Front Row Pre-1.3.4 Intel Fix.mpkg for original 10.4.3 BezelService file FROM THE DESKTOP

4) Use Front_RowNoRemotePatch FROM THE DESKTOP to copy back the original working front row to CoreServices-> if needed but the whole app should be 5,775,094 bytes in size. Nothing should go wrong without this step but It's best to copy this one over to CoreServices . If all no go, make sure to go with this step.

5) Drag the Front Row.app from the CoreServices folder the to Dock between Finder and Widget icon -> we launch FrontRow from here

6) Use /Applications/Utilities/Disk Utilities.app to repair disk permissions, but the contents in my /System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/BezelServices.framework/Versions is not permission corrected - still works though. If all no go, then repair permissions before copying over BezelServices.framework

To use FrontRow: "Put the Front Row app in your dock next to your finder (or anywhere really) and click it so it shows up in your top left hand corner in the menu bar, then hold Esc for 5 seconds and Front Row will activate

Enjoi Front Row"

7) I haven't rebooted and that's what I like about OSX. After all this, it's worth a try and I hope this works. If things go slow as TPM, reapply Maxxuss's patch in '/Pacthes', remove Front Row.app and start over. Goodluck.

*Note: Permissions need not to be restored on the Front\ Row.app itself. Also the site above noted somewhere that 10.4.4 can run 10.4.3 BezelService files, or maybe one of the 2. Can anyone confirm this?*
