ESI QuataFire 610 Firewire Audio Interface

I have this Firewire audio interface, and it works fine with my MacBook - no drivers necessary.

However on my Hackintosh it is recognised fine, but the audio output clicks, pops, and sometimes fails to work altogether. There are only two differences between the machines: a) the MacBook is running 10.5.3, while the Hackintosh runs 10.5.2, and B) the Firewire interface in the Hackintosh is just some cheap $15 PCI card, while the MacBook (obviously) has an Apple Firewire interface.

As the QuataFire has been out for a few years now, I'd say it's most likely the firewire interface in the PC that's causing the issues. Would that be a fair assessment?

If so, can anyone recommend an inexpensive PCI Firewire interface that's reported to work well with OSX86? I have noticed Belkin sell one that supports "PC and Mac", so perhaps that's worth trying.

I've had a look through the forums for more on this topic, but with Search down I haven't found anything particularly informative on this topic.

Any help is greatly appreciated.
