Guide: Fan Not Working.

Hi,

I've had a hackintosh for about a week now and I have quickly adapted to getting my machine to working fully to at least get a full system with OS X on it.

My fan hasn't been working fully so I decided to fix it. A friend of mine helped me a little with this.

1. Right, so shutdown your laptop and leave for about 30 minutes.

2. Boot laptop and press FN+F4, Not sure what this does but it actives the fan.

3. Now, leave your hand under the laptop on darwin boot/apple boot screen to make sure its still running.

4. Login to your OS X desktop and enjoy a system which is running Leopard and does not overheat.

5. Next boot make sure it's still running the fan on Darwin boot without pressing a thing. If it is not, press Cntrl+Alt+Delete to go back to BIOS and then do the FN+F4 command and all should be well.

If your still having problems, drab a Ubuntu/Debian based Live-CD and just boot up into it. (Test without installing option) just play around for a minute then reboot into OS X and the fan should be running.

This method of the FN-F4 command has been tested on a Toshiba Satellite and a HP Pavillion dv9543cl.

Enjoy!

Credit should be given to Jiver, true, but the whole concept (at least in the mind of most good natured OSx86 users) is community. It doesn't matter who does it and who posts it (although in this case SOME credit should be given, even a little thanks note at the bottom), it benefits the community for the better.

This does not work for me. If it does work for you guys I would want to know why it works then so you can figure out a none interactive solution to this. This might be related to a flag or something special about darwin. Do you guys want to know why or do you want to keep having to pushing fn-f4 when you boot?

Take a look at my thread here: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=101271

I have been battling the cold boot no fans issues for months now with no solution in sight.

Hardware EEEpc 1005HA (or any other EEEpc whith the same reported problems)

OSX 10.6.7

Using nawcom Legacy kernel darwin 10.7: http://blog.nawcom.com/?p=640

Ok guys for all of you that have a problem with:

1.Fans not working

-This usually comes after the 10.6.7 update. After a lot of research this is due to a install of a newer kext: "AppleACPIplatform"

-Just go back to the version: 1.3 from 1.3.5

AppleACPIPlatform 1.3: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2374229/AppleACPIPlatform.kext.zip

2.Brightness after wake from sleep:

-This happens due to the appleintegratedframebuffer 1.6.10

-Rollback to 1.6.6

AppleIntegratedFramebuffer: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2374229/AppleIntel...buffer.kext.zip

3. HotKeys:

-Just install AsusHotKeys Driver or edit your DSDT:

Inform me if anything doesn't work or need any help….
