Don't install 10.5.3 from software update, only from combo update

It will break your install.

While updating, I got a KP pointing the ApplIntelCPUPowerManagement.

Wait for the delta or combo installer. Oh well, worth a try

Edit-----

I'm installing it on my hack, if it works, I'll write a guide.

Will be awesome if you are successful in updating your hackintosh and also write a tutorial for all of us users to follow!

Of course, I am updating a new Retail install of 10.5 so I am going from 10.5 to 10.5.3 (hopefully)

Well i've updated it on my imac which of course its gonna work... just a thought, if i posted my intelcpupowermanagement for you to take a look at and compare to the 10.5.2 one would that help find why its KP'n with that?

All the best with getting 10.5.3 to work! i can't wait to have it on my hack :)

Shaun.

I installed it on my MBP first and now it's almost done installing on my new 10.5 retail install. Luckily the download from Apple was pretty quick, I was downloading the combo update at a swift 1.7-2 Mb/s.

Try the instructions from the 10.5.2 update thread that was the file that broke it last time as well..

P5K-e wifi + intel quad core

AHCI

Jmicron disabled

Following netkas's method (which worked flawlessly for 10.5.2) I get panic in standard boot and still waiting for root device in verbose. flags -X and -S also give still waiting.

I thought it may need bios tweeking but nothing I did seemed to work.

I tried IDE over AHCI, disabeling firewire, wlan, ethernet,HDA etc.

anyone have success with P5K-e Wifi?

I have a newbie question. What exactly is the "combo" update and how do I get it?

Use the second link in my first post to get it and a combo update is just another way of installing the upgrade from your local machine instead of using the built in Software Update.

So I just want to make sure I have the steps straight:

1 - Make sure I'm using vanilla kernel

2 - Follow the instructions posted on the other post to avoid Apple's copy protection while installing with the combo updater

if I was using pretty standard Kalyway vanilla with no kext tweaks, that should be about it...right?

Basically right but you need to make sure that your .kext you have changed are restored back to your install then if you want the hardware accelerated video if using NVinject then you need to open its package with Pacifist to force the install of the NV*.kext and the OpenGL frameworks to get that back.

hmm. Well I just used the kalyway installer and I didn't have to tweak or modify any kext files manually. But I have no idea whether the kalyway installation process automatically did for me. (sigh). not really sure ....guess I will wait until I understand better.

well... I do not use vanilla (it doesnt work for me). I used your instuctions, installed update with bad result: i was not able to boot (with different kernels, i have kalyway 10.5.2).

Well... finally i started OSX from timemachine backup and i think that i will wait for hacked update...
