Wake from sleep and no NIC card

Well not exactly no NIC card. System Preferences recognizes the NIC card after waking from sleep, but says that the network cable is unplugged. A restart fixes the problem, but defeats the purpose of having sleep.

I did try searching for this, but couldn't find anything. My google-foo is probably weak.

I've got the following hardware:

Intel E6600

Gigabyte P35-DS3R with onboard NIC (gigabit)

2GB Mushkin RAM DDR2 1066 (PC8500)

If a fix has already been posted, please show me the way.
