Can't boot 10.4.8 DVD

Hi,

I'm trying to install 10.4.8 (using the JaS iso) on my Dell Dimension 4600, but I can't boot from the DVD.

At first, I thought the problem was that my DVD drive was the slave to my CD drive (I read that Dells can only boot from master drives). So I disconnected my CD drive and re-connected my DVD drive as the master, set the jumpers from Cable Select to Master, and then changed the BIOS to reflect the DVD as Master. But that didn't work.

Then I thought that I had improperly burned the DVD, as the ISO image was in a file on the DVD, not just the only item on the DVD. So I re-burned the DVD with just the ISO file on the main level of the DVD (instead of tucked away in a file). But that didn't work either.

I've run out of ideas. Does anyone have any suggestions? Can I boot from an ISO on a hard drive partition, or on an external hard drive? Should I try a different version of 10.4?

My system is an Intel 4 3GHz, with a i865 processor that uses sse3.

The ISO I'm using is:

JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.Defiant.diskutil.biker880.ich7-R.patch.Integrated.iso
