nylock10 Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Not sure if this is the right place to put it but.. This sounds pretty stupid, but I just got rid of Mac OS x86. I think I'm just going to buy a new Mac computer, couldn't stand knowing that I didn't pay for this great operating system and millions of other people had to. Probably the replacement for a PowerMac G5 will be what I choose. Having Mac OS X, my favorite Operating system was great, I really enjoyed it - and with a fully-functional Macintosh from the Apple Store, it will be even better. That was a hell of a time I had using OSX, beats Windows by a lot. Hopefully some day Apple will release a legal version of OSX that can be installed on every day PCs, it would boost their sales and I'm sure make Apple even more popular then it is today. *note: this was probably a load of {censored} to you, so if you didn't like this post then that's your problem and it ain't mine, and if anyone who works for Apple is reading this, keep up the good work Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
A Nonny Moose Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 If you get an iMac G5 right now (which is $200 less than it's same sized Intel counterpart), it will last you about five years (at which point the Mac OS will be all Intel instead of just the hardware sales). I couldn't use my wireless internet, no sound, the video support was junk. It just didn't make for a good day to day OS. I'm getting a MacBook Pro in a few months, and that will be a hell of a better experience than using a hacked OS that can't even be updated. Sure, installing OS X on your PC is a fun thing to try....it gets pretty old when you realize that it's inferior to what you get when you actually pay for the stuff. Nice, a MacBook Pro, those look pretty good. The hacked OS didn't really work out, could only do the basic things the Mac OS X offers. Loathe as I am to say it Windows is pretty good nowadays. the only reason I can think runnning mac is that it has a unix core! However, I'm pretty pleased running BSD/Solaris. xiberia Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 I installed x86 so I could get PHP/MySQL/Ruby etc working, and to test websites out in Safari. I couldn't care less about flashy graphics etc... as long as it works. Saying that, I'm saving for a Mac too. (Not meant to be sarcastic in the least, I actually mean to say congratulations) I did the same thing: I was a for a while, but the constant crashes and patches and lack of important features convinced me to go shopping. Picked up my G4 iBook just a few weeks ago. Trust me, the difference between the full OS and the hacked one is incredible. Plus, no one likes stealing, right? domino Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 Acquiring a copyrighted application without paying for it, whether there is money loss or not is still stealing. It is what you do with the application that makes a difference. If you plan to use it on a normal basis or make money off the applications it runs on might be something to be frowned upon. But no doubt, there are people that actually learn from this experience. Who ever said hacking an OS is for everyone? It's for those who have enough time and resilience to stick with it and try to get everything working on there machine. Once that's done, they move on to other areas that will challenge them. This "Hacking OS X" isn't about trying to get an OS to work and keep it. It's the learning experience and what you will do with that experience when it's time to use it productively. I will always be a Windows use since 90% of my clients use Windows. Those who say, X OS is better than Y OS because X crashed less than Y are simply normal/occasional users that have limited control of there computer usage habits. My XP still boots in under 25 seconds and I have not seen a BSOB in over 2yrs. So the X better/worse Y is a myth. It's always better to stick with what's most comfortable and support it's developers.
