seanmcgpa
Have a Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L that runs flawlessly with Kaly 10.52 - but I'd like to add a PCI Firewire card. Can anyone suggest one that works OOB with Kaly 10.5.2? Thanks!
PoloBear
Try to get a Firewire 800 Card, the speed is worth it. I have a INLINE FireWire 800 IEEE1394b 2-fach + 1x 1394a, so its a noname card with TI chipset. http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/images/B00...066&s=ce-de
seanmcgpa
Thanks for the reply - searched a bunch of places here in the USA but couldn't find that card. Can anyone else suggest a PCI card that 100% works OOB? Thanks!

Can anyone else suggest a PCI card that 100% works OOB? Thanks! I did a search on insanelymac and found these to be reported working oob by a few individuals: 1. ADS Pyro64 2. Any OHCI 3. Adaptec Firewire 800 PCI-card I'm looking for one myself and will probably try to go for #1 or #2.

Hagar
I use a noname agere chipset card on my ep-35-s3g.. for a new build I ordered the cheapest I could find, which happened to be a "lacie firewire 400 pci card" which was listed as "mac compatible". Both these are firewire 400.. For fw 800, I have no idea. As an aside, I've worked around tha jmicron ata problem by attaching an ata/firewire adapter (genesys chip, apparently) to the dvd drive and plugged it into the internal port on the firewire card. works fine. Adaptec Firewire 800 PCI-card I'm looking for one myself and will probably try to go for #1 or #2. They are all OHCI. You can't buy a consumer-grade non-OHCI firewire card. If you don't have any other devices capable of the 800 speed then you should go for a 400 which is cheaper. A Firewire 800 card won't magically bump your 400 devices up to 800. Check the specs of your other firewire equipment first.
wilycoder
I had to buy the dynex firewire card from best buy since my onboard didn't work. the dynex one from best buy has worked flawalessly. I think it was $37.99. Unfortunately it is only firewire-400...

There are perfectly usable Firewire 400 cards out there for less than $15 and that's from major online retailers. Half that on ebay. Dynex is Worst Buy's in-house generic brand, isn't it? Overpriced and ultra el-cheapo. But it will probably work fine.
