hey all,

i just bought one of the new sexy apple wireless keyboards. it works perfectly with hackintosh, but when i try and boot up on my xp drive, i

keep getting a "error pairing with device" message. Ive tried calling apple reguarding this, but every person ends up giving up on me and transferring

me to a different department. I know connecting a apple wireless keyboard has been done before, not sure how its done though.

Any help at all greatly appreciated.

btw im using a kensington bluetooth adapter

thanks

Plug in a wired keyboard:

1. Start regedit

2. search for -> HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Widcomm\BtConfig\General

3. Set the key 'PinCodeWord' to a decimal value of 1111

4. Set the key 'UseFixedPin' to a decimal value of 1

5. Then attempt pairing. When you get to the greyed PIN screen type 1111 using wired keyboard.

6. Press the Return key on the Apple keyboard.

Should work now.

ive already tried this fix.

it finds the device when i search for it, but when i try to pair at the grey screen, a error message comes up over the grey screen not alllwoing me to type saying, error pairing with device etc. I cant even type anything in because of the error message that appears

ive heard that downgrading the bluetooth driver or something will fix it, widcomm 1.4.10 or something like that

thanks for the help anyway, i think ill try the regedit fix again just to make sure it doesnt work

one key quetsion about the boot camp drivers dude.

where do you find them?? and how do you install them??

apple support told me to go buy leopard and install the drivers, with no garantee that they will work.

ill keep looking around though.

thanks for the help

it's quite evident that apple don't want you using an apple keyboard with xp unless it's done through bootcamp on an intel mac. why, i don't know. their keyboards are lovely. it would be great if they came with windows drivers, but they don't.

You should be able to get your apple wireless keyboard to work in windows without any drivers since they are simly an HID compliant bluetooth device. If you can't seem to pair your keyboard with your bluetooth dongle or builtin bluetooth adapter, it's probably not a problem with the keyboard - it's either a problem with your bluetooth driver or you're not making the keyboard discoverable (which is usually done my simply turning it on)

i'm currently typing on the newest slim wireless apple keyboard while natively running win xp sp2 on a pc. i didn't install any keyboard drivers, so obviously it works without them. the only thing that doesn't work are the special keys, like the cd eject key and the smart function keys, though the function keys work like normal function keys anyway.

if you're still having problems, the only thing i can suggest is try updating to windows xp sp2.

furthermore, the actually win xp drivers for apple keyboards are not accessible while you're in windows. you actually have to boot an intel mac (not hackintosh), right-click BootCamp.app in the utilities folder, click show package contents, then extract the drivers from a disk image (dmg) inside the application bundle. So if you know anyone with an intel mac that would be a great help. i will try and get my hands on these drivers, upload them to my server and put a link here. no promises though.

thanks for the great intelligent reply. I'm thinking now that it could just be, windows sp2. Ill try to find some kind of update for it. Not sure if that will cure it though. if you could give me a link to find the drivers for the keyboard that would be amazing.

Thanks very much!!

I'm not sure what drivers you ended up using but maybe check that they have "Linked System Authentication" enabled. I'm pretty sure it means that you allow your xp bluetooth driver to use the device as the input device when authenticating it. ie it will prompt you to enter a random code from the apple keyboard and press enter. If you do this it can then confirm the device is not a random stranger/passer-by trying to connect to your BT.

Hope this helps. I'm using a Toshiba BT integrated device in my laptop with XP SP2 and the Toshiba BT Stack driver. A little bit flaky at times though.

Please note i wanted to beat someone with my apple wireless keyboard after 2 hours of monkeying around with the keyboard then going out to store buying new pairs of batteries .. i finally turned to google and found this forum the registery edit sounded like the right solution and tried it and didnt work ... tried to look for more and found another one and its basically the same.. only the step 5 is different

5. Then attempt pairing. When you get to the greyed PIN screen type 1111 using OTHER keyboard THAN Apple Bluetooth keyboard.

Please note OTHER keyboard .. i was trying to type 1111 on the apple wireless keyboard then i read it OTHER and typed it on my Sony Laptop and yay it paired.

* So type 1111 on the laptop you are trying to pair with and type Enter on the Apple Wireless Keyboard.

And i only registered to leave this comment on this website cause i didnt wanted anyone to waste their time like i did.
