holydhaliwal Posted April 22, 2008 Share Posted April 22, 2008 Heya all, after searching the forums for a few days and reading up on multiple threads reguarding smilar, but not exactly the same issues as the ones i am experiencing and after reinstalling osx about 20 times in different ways, i decided to make a new thread for help I have an XFX 8400GS card on an nforce4 mobo + amd cpu. Here's what happens after i install osx using zephyroths latest disk -If i install with only the dvi port being connected to my monitor, after setup is complete and i reboot i get a black screen after darwin bootlaoder. -If i install with only vga port being used setup runs fine, once setup is done i reboot and osx loads fine, however at this time it loads up in 1024x768 res. Im greeted with the osx video thing (the one that says welcome in about 43 different languages). Then i go through the account creation process. blah blah. -I then change my res to 1920x1200 res to fit my monitor. This works no problem and at the same time i have full qe/ci support. -I reboot the computer and then i get a black screen after darwin loader. My conclusion is that osx is having trouble booting up strait into 1920x1200 res. -After this i reboot pc, this time with dvi+vga ports both connected (my monitor supports multiple connections). What happens now is i get a black screen after darwin BUT i have a functioning cursor. So black screen with cursor. Oh and its on dvi connection, even though both are plugged in, it reverts to dvi. -THEN i reboot again, this time in safe mode wtih only vga connection, it loads up fine no problem -Then i reboot AGAIN in safe mode with dvi+vga, as i said before since both my vga and dvi are connected at the same time, it automatically reverts back to dvi. however this is where it gets REALLY weird. the osx wallpaper loads up and the system is running in 1920x1200 res. The reason i find this so weird is that when going into safe mode with vga connection, it loads up in 1024x768 res and is unchangable. Anyway so the wallpaper loads up in 1920x120 res and the cursor appears. thats it. no login manager or anything, just wallpaper+cursor. Now it is my beilef that this is exactly what was happening before when i loaded osx in normal mode with dvi connection, except now the wallpaper displays, however i am not an expert on the matter so i dont know. Now here are the things i've tried to resolve alread; -I've inserted the proper string thing in nvinject.plist as well as proper device ids for all those files (nvinject and the other two, can't remember the names atm) -I've tried the latest nvinject installer, this resulted in kernal panics which i resolved by inserting device ids into the required files -Changing boot up res in com.apple.boot (or w/e its called, can't remember name exactly) This resulted in the apple logo to display in 1920x1200 res, however did not change initial problem. Anyway yeah i think i said everything if you need more information i'll be happy to get it. holydhaliwal Posted April 23, 2008 Author Share Posted April 23, 2008 Also another thing i noticed is that when i boot up in safe mode with dvi and only the wallpaper + cursor appear, a lot of functions are still active, ie: if i press f12 the screen darkens as if the widgets would appear, but they dont and if i press f11 the edges of the screen darken as if im showing the desktop Anyone have any ideas?
