Heya, i'm trying to get my XFX 8800GTS 320MB to work, i run 10.5.2.

I'v used several nvinject installers, same result on all, from what i see, it looks like it looks up when its going from framebuffer to desktop.

I'm out of ideas :/

Why won't it work? What am i doing wrong?

I'v tried leo4all v2 and v3, same issue, when its going to load the geforce kext (thats the driver, right?) the screen blinks for a quick second, then nothing. I have to go into the shell (-s as boot arg.) and remove the geforce drivers, for it to boot proper again.

I have 2x dvi monitors hooked up to my gfx card, no vga connectors on the card, so i cant try that, i tried to unhook one of them, same issue.

I'm boggled, since you guys with the very same card, get it to work in all glory.

I get something like

"NVDA::start(PCE1) failed"

And with nvkush i get something about family specific error, not sure when this error came up.

these errors accurs and it continues to load other stuff, but the "real halt" happens when its, i think, about to fire up the grafics. (right before one would see the desktop)

I have a asrock mobo, 4coredual-vsta, and a e4300

edit: my mobos sb and nb

I have the exact same card, and using Leo4Allv3, I had to manually add the kexts to make the card work properly. After the install, I had to boot using -s, and then actually remove the drivers using the commands the shell lists when you use the -s option. Without this step, adding the kexts from the Nvidia kexts thread wouldn't get me anywhere, I'd be stuck at 800x600 and no options. But adding the kexts during the install, subsequently removing them via single-user mode, and then installing the updated kexts from the thread on this site worked.

I just re-installed using Kalyway 10.5.2 (Vanilla 9.2.2), and chose the Natit NVidia alternative driver included - and voila, everything worked out of the box (QE and CI included). A heck of a lot easier than using the crazy method I had to use before with Leo4Allv3... It even detected my dual 22" monitors correctly and set the resolution appropriately. Audio works correctly too, although I haven't tested the mic input but I never use it anyway.

My machine is a Giga-Byte EP35-DS4, Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0GHz, 4GB DDR2-800, XFX 8800GTS 320MB, Hitachi 500GB GLA360, 2 x HP w22 monitors, Logitech G15 keyboard, Logitech G7 mouse. And wow, is it fast. :)

I did that, removed the kext from the options, and then tried nvinject, and still get the same thing.

What can i do next? This should work, others are using the very same card and gets it running.

What am i missing?

Are there some new kext that i should use?

YAY! Fianlly I'm not alone with this problem!

I have the exact same motherboard, Kalyway 10.5.2, and the MSI OC version of the geforce 8800GTS 320MB, and like you, I've tried everything I've found to get it to work but I have the same problems/errors you have (system hang right before where it seems to want to go to the desktop.). The exact descriptions of the erros are it hanging not far after loading the nvidia inject stuff (which is sometimes loads up to 3 times O.o), and getting 'PCE1: Family specific mathing fails' up to three times when using GFX strings (EFI strings?). The farthest I got was using devZero's EFI GFX string installer beta1 (http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=112577), but that just ends in a kernel panic instead of just hanging...

Anyone got any ideas?

Could it be a motherboard issue?

Sort of good to know that I'm not alone :)

edit: found this guy, seams to be the same issue, same mobo, but diff gfxcard

edit2: oh, not the same card, but same issue? Meaby the same chipset? *looks around*

I too have this issue. Have run through the same steps, but no cigar.

Could it be a problem with the VIA motherboard chipset?

Could be, do you have the same mobo or only the same chipset?

Aren't there any new versions out now?
