I have a dual-processor G5 and it was working great until one day...

The application Final Cut Pro v4.5 crashes when launched.

I have

* QT 7.4.5 (I think this software drop caused the issue)

*reinstalled the software from the original installation disk.

* removed all plug-in files and folders.

* trashed preferences

I have sent in the 'Notify Apple' debug message with contact information.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

P.S. If we do figure it out, I will publish the solution.

you sure you trashed all the preferences? there are some at user level and some at system level. try making a new account (you can delete it later). If Final Cut launches normally than it's in the user preferences, if not try to find the system preferences and trash those. It works for me when Final Cut craps up the way it seems to have for you.

not really, I just lookd for anything related to preferences and final cut outside of /Users and deleted it, restarted final cut, look some more, delete it, restart, etc. I know it's a bit low-tech but it solved my problem, and good thing it solved yours. it's better than reinstalling the whole thing.

cheers

p.s. for any one else out there with this problem, don't trash *all* your system preferences, just the ones related to final cut... otherwise you'll probably have to restore all the little things that make your applications work the way *you* want them to - it's not catastrofic if you do, but it probably saves you the bother
