While I'm guessing that the simple answer is "NO", has anyone actually tried using WINE (darwine, whatever) to run VMWare (or even the Windows version of Virtual PC)?

I'm sure whatever is running under VMWare's hood would not allow it, but if it were possible, it would be a quick and definitely dirty way to get Windows booting on Mac OSX.

Yes they have tried VMWare and no it doesn't run (I think it even fails to install). See the posts at the bottom of page 1 of this thread and at the top of page 2.

People have got the Linux version of VMWare to run on the Mac Intels (obviously, this is when they are booting Linux and not Mac OS X) so things look promising.

Please be aware that Darwine (the Mac OS X implementation of WINE) is still only in a development phase and is not really ready for the prime time yet.
