Is it legal ?

Hello everybody,

I've studied apple licence, and I learnt that Mac could just (legally) install on Apple machine.

I want to have a multi-Os based system (Linux, Mac OS X, Windows).

But I want not to install a illegal system ?

Does the Apple licence autorized to install Mac OS X on a PC completely monted by us (not an apple machine) ?

The End User License states that OS X can only be installed on Apple hardware but the End User Licence has yet to be tested in a court of law so its debatable weather or not it is illegal.

So long as you have a OS X license I take the view that if you bought the software you should be able to install it on any machine you want.

bad spirit for me, I will just run a dual-boot (not fun)

Also the License doesn't specify what 'Apple Hardware' implies, if it's the motherboard, a full computer or the hard drive for example. As it is now, you could think that you have installed OSX on 'Apple Hardware' because your root drive is an iPod xD.

Actually this is what the licence says "This License allows you to install and use one copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-labeled computer at a time." there is no reference to the hardware except that it have to be an Apple-labeled computer. That is very vague.

if you wanted to install Unix on a nice little box, you might consider hiring a Unix consultant / wizard. Not because you need to, but to make everything runs smoothly. If you want to create a business selling legally-purchased copies of Leopard on custom-assembled boxen, you might want to consult an attorney. Because this issue has not been covered in American courts, no one really knows what would happen. Talk to a lawyer, it's cheaper to get the advice before you get hit with a lawsuit.

There is probably no reason that you can't build a box that you have tested with OSX86, but sell it loaded with Linux. And if a user downloads their own copy of Kalyway or Leo4All, you haven't taken money for that. It's just like a car "I just sell 'em, I don't know what they do when they get home."

Remember that if you try to steal Apple's customers, Apple will probably come after you. (As if Joe Sixpack has the time and interest to make a home-brew Mac, he'd rather just go to the Apple store and buy a Mac that's guaranteed to work.) What you'd be selling to me is the effort of going thru the Hardware Compatability List, buying the parts and assembling the unit. That's probably 12 hours of my time. I'd pay $100 premium to save myself all that work. But for most folks here, the work is the fun. So you're really setting yourself a difficult model, you want customers who are too stupid or proud to march down to the Apple store, but smart enough to know how much work you're saving them.

Hope that answers your question. For those of you who want a translation just cut and paste into a French-English online dictionary but the translation is bound to be worng! Just like watching a good american flick which is badly translated in French!

On my machine I have an Apple logo that you get with an ipod. It might not be an Apple-labeled computer, but I do have a computer with an Apple-label.

Exactly, just make a hackintosh, put OS X on it and stick an Apple sticker on it (ya know, those stickers that come with OS X and iPods etc. :P)
