Is it possible to configure a USB external HDD attached to an Airport Extreme base station so that Leopard can use it for Time Machine backing up? I suppose it must be some kind of tweaking because otherwise there will be no need people to buy Time Capsule smile.gif

just that easy

but be aware: as far as I know there a mac-address related issue with time machine backups ... but I don't know exactly.

Actually this was working fine under 10.5.1
Now on 10.5.2 you can see the AirPort Drive and chose it for backup BUT when you try to make a backup it give you a error "Image couldn't be mounted" or "The image couldn't be created"
Any suggestions?

Try using iTimeMachine. Or the new software update, but that has been causing problems.
