This step apply to Dell Inspiron 1520. There are possibalities that it will work on other Dell model but I am not sure. If your model can work then please tell me.
** This guide is written by me around January 2008 but I forgot to publish it. So there maybe newer solution to my guide. If so, please PM me.TQ**
What is this?
This is a guide on how to install OSX 10.5.1 on your Intel SSE3 (AMD not supported at the moment) using iATKOS Installation DVD. If I missed steps or made a mistake please let me know. I am writing this guide based only on my memory.
Things To Get:
Leopard Installation Disk:
1) iATKOS 1.0i (Intel Only)
Important: Downloading OSX86 (a prepatched OSX install image) is ILLEGAL.
Don't ask me where to find the iATKOS installation disk. Find it yourself.
Installing OSX
1) Get iATKOS 1.0i.
2) Burn it into blank DVD. Use slowest speed possible.
3) Prepare partition for OSX.
- Control Panel
- Administrative Tools
- Computer Managment
- Storage
- Disk Management
- Find the 10GB partition on your hard disk.
(This is for Dell Inspiron 1520. The partition are used for Dell Recovery. Please backup all your content in this partition into DVD before proceeding. All data in the partition will be ERASED. Proceed with caution. If you want to install in other partition, then feel free to do so. But if you stuck with only the internal hard disk on your Dell, then you may choose this partition. Remember 10GB is NOT enough for all your application. After installing you will only have around 2GB free space.)
- Right click on that partition and choose Delete Volume. (This will ERASE all your data in D drive)
4) Hit Windows Button and type 'diskpart' without quote. (If you are using Vista). If XP then use Run command.
5) Type in (press Enter after you typed in a line)
*Important: Please write down your disk number and partition number for future reference*
list disk
select disk [the number of your disk. Usually disk 0. Apply for Dell Inspiron 1520 Only]
create partition primary id=af
list partition
select partition [the number of your new osx partition. Usually partition 1. Apply for Dell Inspiron 1520 Only]
active
6) Close the diskpart window.
7) Insert the OSX install disk and reboot your computer.
8) The installation will start after bootup. If not, then check your BIOS and boot from DVD.
9) Go to Disk Utilities
10) Click on your 10GB hard disk partition. (Maybe the second one from four partition available for the Toshiba hard disk)
11) Click Erase.
12) Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for the volume format then name it whatever you like it. Select security options to Zero Out Data. The Don't Erase Data also can work. Then click Erase.
13) Then close the Disk Utilities. And open Darwin Boot Installation.
14) Follow the instruction to install Darwin Boot Installation. Please ensure you know which disk number and partition number that you are using. Refer previous steps.
15) When the Darwin Boot Loader ask to install the EFI support, click Yes.
16) After finish it up, then close the Darwin Boot Installer and proceed with installation.
17) Choose customize when prompted.
18) Select ONLY this option:
- EFI
- Stock Kernel
- Stock Apple ACPI Platform
- Broadcom 440X
19) Proceed with installation.
20) Boot your computer and start the OSX for the first time. If you can start the OSX then great. 1 step finish. Now to dual boot with Vista.
Dual Boot
There are 2 option of doing this. First if you just leave with the current setting, the Darwin Boot Loader will load and then you can choose Windows Vista or OSX to boot from. As far as I know, the Vista are made default. At least this apply to my computer. If you want Windows Boot Loader to show up. then proceed with the steps below. Otherwise skip it.
Dual Boot with Vista and OSX (With Windows Boot Loader)
1) Put your Vista Installation DVD into the DVD-ROM. Restart your computer. Boot from Vista Install Disk.
2) After booting up, click repair system and press next. Open command window and type 'diskpart'. Then type:
list disk
select disk [the number of your disk]
list partition
select partition [the number of your windows partition]
active
3) Reboot into Windows Vista.
4) Copy 'tboot' to the root of your Vista partition. Usually C:\ (Get 'tboot' from my attachment) Click to view attachment
5) Click Windows Button and type 'cmd'
6) Type:
bcdedit /copy {current} d/ "Mac OS X" (just leave the {current} and don't change it)
bcdedit /enum active
bcdedit /set [ID] PATH \tboot (replace [ID] with your identifier. (See Picture) *The picture is missing. You can see that the ID is something like {xxxxxxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxxxxxxxxxx}. Sorry about the missing picture.*
7) Now reboot your computer and you will have nice dual boot menu.
Display - GeForce 8600M GT
There are reported problem after applying this patch. Some people reported that after installing the patch, their computer cannot restart and shut down properly. If anyone found the solution, please let me know.
1) Get all the required files first. Download here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=Q644YOYA
All file must be unzipped in a HFS+ (Mac) partition and not in FAT32 or NTFS partition.
2) Delete the OpenGL.framework folder in /System/Library/Frameworks.
3) In the Video_8600M_GT_Files.rar, there are folder OpenGL.framework
4) Copy that folder and paste into /System/Library/Frameworks.
5) Copy all the kexts in the geforce_1052_kext folder ( GeForce.kext , GeForce2MXGLDriver.bundle , GeForce3GLDriver.bundle , GeForce7xxxGLDriver.bundle , GeForce8xxxGLDriver.bundle , GeForceFXGLDriver.bundle , GeForceGA.plugin , GeForceVADriver.bundle , NVDANV10Hal.kext , NVDANV20Hal.kext , NVDANV30Hal.kext , NVDANV40Hal.kext , NVDANV50Hal.kext , NVDAResman.kext , NVinject.kext ) to /System/Library/Extensions.
6) Go to Disk Utilites. And repair permission.
7) Reboot. It should work now.
Sound - Sigmatel 9205
The sound are half working for the moment. The output are there but the Mute are not working. The input jack are not working. Lots of thing doesn't work well yet. This patch are new. So please give it time for it to be properly modified. At least for the moment, there are sound.
1) Download here. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=B6O6ALND
2) Unzip it (the vendor id maybe different with yours but as long as it is 9205 it will work, i think)
3) Go to your /System/Library/Extensions/AppleHDA.kext
4) Delete if you have one
5) Replace it with the downloaded one. The folder should remain the same as before. Just the content is different.
6) Go to disk utilites and repair permission.
7) Reboot.
*This patch always get updated. So please check my forum to see the progress. There maybe newer patch that are more working in term of function but at least this one also have sound.
