Full Version: Are Mac OS X Tiger install disc's hardware depentend?

I'll have in short an old PowerBook G4 15" 1.5GHz but with missing install DVD's. Can I use those from a friend's PowerMac G5 Dual 2.7GHz or the installation is hardware dependent? Hope doesn't sound that stupid, but that's what I just heard as a rumor that I might not be able to do this unsure.gif

They mostly are Hardware Dependent, but can be easily converted to retail. There is a guide for this on Wikipedia!!

Well, not quite. It can't give you information that doesn't exist (straw to gold, for example).

I arrived at this thread via a Google search looking for a way to convert machine-specific discs to retail versions. If you have a link to such an article, I would be very interested to see it.

If you don't wish to be helpful enough to provide a link to the article, perhaps you could provide the search term(s) that would lead to the results for the link to the article?
