Does anyone know what you have to do with the wires labelled 1, 2, 3 etc which come with the case. These are the really thin black wires.

Need asap reply

Many Thanks Hally

Airport Extreme, BT is Bluetooth

Oh, and who wants sthe 3,1 EFI Firmware?
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/fir...rationcd15.html

2,1 Firmware is also available with V 1.4, I'll have to see if I can screw up upgrading my firmware so it'll allow me to use the upgrade CD...

Or better yet, anyone here have any idea how to upload the firmware, do a forced flash or whatever? It looks like if we screw it up, we can restore it with these CD's....
Hally_57
Thanks Listed1st.com, so do you plug them into the bluetooth and airport boards? Also what Heat sinks shall i get as i am shortly goping to buy 2 INTEL XEON 5150 2.66GHz CPU chips and am i correct by saying they do not come with heatsinks?

Also what is a power processor module? Do i need one?

Many Thanks Hally
Listed1st.com
Yes, they are for the AP and BT modules.

They most likely will not come with heatsinks, buy the ones listed earlier in this thread (can't remember which model) But you'll need to make the temp sensors out of the transistors (simple) unless you buy apple heatsinks.

Don't buy the 5150's! You're just throwing your money away! If you wanted a low powered mac, you could do what I did and get a MP 2.66GHz quad core for $1600 with 2GB ram and 250GB HDD. If you're going to make one, make an 8-core!

Get these CPUs: http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-Intel-Xeon-E5345-...1QQcmdZViewItem

That or heck, I've got a pair of 2.66GHz 8-core's that I'd part with for a good price...

And finally, a power processor module is most likely a part needed in systems like blade servers and such, Mac's don't use those....

:-D
Hally_57
Thanks Listed1st.com for your help.

How much would you sell the pair of 2.66GHz 8-core's for?

Regards Hally

Also here are the latest pictures of my build. I need to order the memory cage with rear fan in order to hold my 2 riser cards. And last night i bought 1gb of DDR2 crucial ram for £3 on ebay LOL i know.
Harloe
Looking good so far Hally, I'm really jealous.. Lol! How much did the prototype board cost ya?
Hally_57
i got the board and 2 riser cards for £150 inc shipping from ebay.com. However i had to pay £40 for Vat and custom charges
Harloe
Wow so overall the only thing that is REALLY gonna cost a pretty penny is the Processors?
Hally_57
Yep, the hard drive bay carriers came along with the front logic board.

Can anyone tell me what the black plate is for which comes with the front logic board?

Need ASAP response!

Thanks Alot

Well that's not too bad! What exactly did you search for on eBay? I usually have no luck with my searches lol

I think a Hackintosh might work out cheaper until I can get some more money.. hmm..
Hally_57
I just searched on a daily bases the words Mac Pro and Macpro. Then clicked on the newely listed tab to see the newest listings

I've got a prototype board with memory crad risers, 1GB of Ram, Power supply and all the cables to hook to power supply up, as well as the hard drive power and data cables and the cd drive power and data cables I'd let go for a good price, Cause GBP are huge compared to USD$$$! I can even throw in some home made (thanks nagal!) thermal sensors and some 2U size heatsinks (Work fine, but the fans are LOUD cuase they need a ton of airflow)....
Harloe
I don't know if anyone remembers this far back in the thread but Nagals cat was "inspecting" the Mac Pro. Well, in the spirit of "lolcats" I decided to make Nagals cat a Lolcat picture XD

And Listed, I sent you a message about your stuff for sale! Name me a price in Dollars, ok? =]

Guys... some promising news. I just received a voice mail from apple for an email I sent them about "macpro2,1" harpertown support. I was told "based on the information you provided, our technical department confirms clovertown and harpertown support for your logic board". In my initial email, I wrote that I have a "macpro2,1" version 2 8X logic board with a 5000X chipset. I hope what they said holds truth because I'm going for it. I will bite the bullet seeing that a Quad 2.5Ghz Harpertown from newegg is only $350. An excellent price for the processor that is new in box. Can anyone with my logic board please confirm my logic boards Chipset with your own... I'm still a little skeptical seeing that I obtained the 5000X info from various forums and whether their department just went by my email description that it has a 5000x chipset... is the chipset 100% certain????

Thanks to everyone for their continued support and insights.

Can you guys with a proto type board confirm your chipsets? Thanks
Listed1st.com
Earlier in this thread I have listed the numbers on the actual chip on the prototype board, didn't find much info as to what the numbers mean, as it's an ES Chipset! Come on, just pop that heatsink off! Nothing a little Arctic Silver 5 can't restore!

You're right... I guess I'm being a pussy sorry... no problem I'll check it out. I just hope there will be non cryptic brandings like 2343..2346646 Intel... you know what I mean. I would rather have the OS relay what it sees.
Hally_57
Does anyone know where i can get a 1gb stick of crucial DDR2 mac pro ram. I just want a 1 x 1gb stick not 2 x 512!

Because i already have 1gb stick but mac pro ram only functions in pairs!

Regards
Harloe
Try http://www.overclockers.co.uk

Great website and they sell a fair bit of Mac stuff, including memory!
Hally_57
Thanks Kimosabe for the fast reply however they do not sell the single 1gb ram i need!
Harloe
Ah crap! Hmm.. You could just hold out for a bit and buy 2x1GB so you'd have 2GB of RAM! Fair deal on the site too!

Mine is a little different, doesn't have the VGA port on it, but a powerful system, plus it'll take the Harpertowns!
Hally_57
Just wondering, could i buy say a 512mb ram stick and put it on the second slot so i will have 1gb and 512mb ram in total?

Plus is anyone certian that the ram only works in pairs because it could just be another one of apples tricks to make use buy more of their products!

Has nothing to do with Apple, it's the standard design, And you will need to match the size as well, can't have different sizes in pairs.
Hally_57

That sounds cool! How much are they supposed to be normally?

My laptop is still for sale overs around £400. Its a Sony Vaio PCG-Z1XSP. Cost me £1800!
nagal
Damn, sorry for being MIA for so long but I was not getting my thread update notices sad.gif Looks like I missed a bit of stuff.

digitalperformer, I cannot confirm the chipset is 5000X but by all accounts it is suppose to be. It is cool to hear Apple said the Harpertowns would work!!! I eventually want to get rid of my ES cpus and if the Harpertowns will work, I just might do that.
Hally_57
Nagal, do you have any Mac Pro parts for sale, as i am half way through my build and require more parts.

I sure don't have anything. In fact I need a better graphics card and trying to figure out what to do about it. I could hunt down a X1900XT and flash it or I could try to use NATIT. Some people have said they had success with using NATIT on a "genuine" Mac Pro.
digitalperformer
Hally the 7300GT retails for 140-170 price range... for 50 bucks you can't go wrong. It will start you off till you flash a better card for replacement; anyway, you don't want to flash on a PC and drop it in your mac without knowing your mac will boot; you'll have no way of knowing whether your not booting because of the video card or computer.

Welcome back Nagal smile.gif

If you guys need Standoff screws for your Logic Board order from www.microfasteners.com (Lebanon, New Jersey) (DIRT CHEAP!!!! and plenty of screws for your project)I ordered Hex headed M3.5 X 50mm screws for my CPU water block holder, you can also use it for heatsinks. I'm using a washer and spring to provide hold down tension. The length of the 50mm screw is a hair long however enough tension is applied for the block to stay static; like a glove. For non cpu standoffs use M3.5 X 12mm pan-headed Philips. Stupid odd sized metrics; I cursed apple for a few days for this B.S...

I using Koolance for cooling.

I'm really excited about skulltrail. My company just gave me budget for a skulltrail build that I'll do; I'll attempted to hackintosh it eventually smile.gif

RE: Laptop: Sorry don't need one; got tons of mac laptops at home. Just throw that sony in the trash smile.gif~

D.P.: "Throw it in the trash" That's HARSH man! Why would you put the trash can through that insult! ;-)

Thanks for the tip on the card!

digitalperformer

Listed1st.com
Too much stuff! I ended up with several prototype boards, and I've don't all I can handle, now it's time to build a 16 core Mac Pro! Have you seen the new prototype logic boards? Just kidding...

I'm just not gonna build any more prototype systems, so I figure I'd see who might like!

Oh, and I have to have a 10 key, so that's why the keyboard and mouse.... No if someone could adapt the new slim full keyboard and make it bluetooth, then we'd be talking!
gramarye
what is the wattage in the Mac Pro PSU? (the current one) I can recall around 950w, something like that. Would like a confirmation however.

Does anyone know what pin size firewire 800 cable connects the front frond to the main logic board? Also could you tell me what other cables are required to link the front board to the main board?

Many Thanks

I know one of the cables was just a normal SATA drive cable. I believe someone commented before that it was just a normal FW800 cable to connect the front panel FW ports to the logic board.
