i need to short out why it crash
so i noticed a folder in root (c:) named backup
and inside there were some important kexts
then i went to ../extensions and i noticed that those kexts are not there!
kexts like: appleSMBIOS.kext should not been in extensions??
or this happened only in me?
another important kext :intelcpupowermanagement.kext ...do you have it in extensions?

All the kext in the drawer backup are the "original" kext of leo , they are replaced in the extensions system by patched one.
Of course there's a AppleSmbios in your Extension folder. btw, AppleCpuPowermanagement need to be deleted from the system
for avoid cpu heating. It is why you don't see it in Extensions.

I don't know what you choose at install but for your P5K premium (witch is very similar to the P5K-E/wifiap used for developement)
the best choices are:

Realtek_WIFI
EFI(guid or mbr depending from your choice in diskutil)

Don't forget after install to uncheck the disk sleep feature in prefs. This feature is the source of a lot of problems.

Leopard is extremely stable on these boards P5K-E, Premium, and Deluxe. So you have one of the best mobo for running leopard.

Ok, I'm begging you guys.

Can someone tell me if there's any solution to the /com.apple.boot.plist not found error when trying to boot the installation DVD, meaning the initial boot, and not after installation?

I am using a USB DVD drive, and I don't believe my mobo has the JMicron controller, as I have a P4 on 478 socket mobo.

I obtained Kalyway 10.5.1, and burnt it to a SL DVD-RW.
When I do a regular bootup, I create my one MBR partition, select EFI MBR, and select Vanilla kernel, and I get an "Error installing the "Essentials" package", asking me to restart.

When I do a "vanilla -v", I succeed all the way until the text gets white, the resolution gets higher, and within 2 seconds, it reboots back to BIOs.

What am I doing wrong?

Quick question,
i cannot put the sata in ahci, only the jmicron sata can be configured as ahci.

Funny thing tho, when i hook the dvd rom sata to jmicron
and hdd 2, the install is very fast, ake about 20 mins

when the sata dvd is on the other controller install takes ages (1h40m)


also, i managed to install a couple of times but i cannot get into the system, it keeps telling me to reboot (get a grey screen with a black square with text in 4 languages wich tells me to reboot)

After downloaded the zip torrent from thepiratebay, i got CRC error when tried to unzip by winzip/7zip/powerarchiver. Then, i tried with unzip application in Leopard, it works well.
Burn ISO DVD with Toast, but i got following error:



I also tried with another burning software like: nero, magiciso, but still the same situation.
Please help me to fix this problem.

I´ve sucessfully installed kalyway but my drives , connected at a marvell sata controller, are not recognized. i have a badaxe2 intel. (Marvell 88SE6145 SATA). In a former installation with uphuck, all drives were recongnized.

Do you have any ideas, kexts ....btw, which kext is it?

I understand that only core cpus need vanilla kernel and those pentium 4 3.0GHz w/HT should not select vanilla kernel! But my question is do i need to press F8 during boot and type "vanilla"? does that mean i will be using the vanilla kernel to boot? What happen if i just let the boot to continue does that mean i am using a patched kernel?

no matter what install option i try it doesnt matter
vanilla or not etc, it doesnt make a difference, i can install succesfully , then boot into osx, and then the fun is over, i get a grey screen with a black square within in 4 languages telling me i need to reboot.

Success intallation on P35-DS3R (rev1). Thanks to Kaly and Dune.

I used the version posted by Wenecon on the usenet (thanks to him). I used the last 7Zip software, no error.

Installation on yellow port, mode ACHI. Hard Drive and DVD.
Purple port (JMicron) are not used and off in bios.

EFI_mbr

Network works out of the box.
Sound needs an additionnal kext, the ALC889A kext.

i think that for some reason i messed with the extensions and all the crashes caused of AppleSmbios not been there
something else ... shouldn't the cpu recognized as intel quad?
cause it says just macpro ,there is not the other table with supported stuff (SSE2,SSE3 etc etc)
i still blv that this release is the best for this mobo ,i just need to fix the crashes ..i'm gonna install again
and why do you say uncheck sleep? sleep works perfect
another thing is that you don't need to set AHCI for the disks ,it works ok even with IDE

Does this release have all the fugly customizations the Kalyway 10.5.0 disc had? A lot of installers seemed to crap out on that version for me too...dunno why.

I did a boot in single user mode and mounted the filesystem, i went trough the logs but could not find a hint whats causing the panic.

As stated before my hardware should support the release

on all occasions i did not select SSE2
however i did try this once to, and still got the same result

i switched so many onboard sata ports im getting dizzy
i cannot lay my finger on whats causing it.

Could it be that the hardware id's on the P5k ICH9/P35 differ from the DS3 ? and this is causing it ?

Hi everyone - Dune & Kaly, gotta give you guys credit for all the time & effort on this topic.

Anyhow, I'm really struggling with this. On about install attempt no. 10 at this point.

System is as follows (should be kosher from what I've read):

Mobo: Gigabyte GA-965P-S3 w/ BIOS rev. F12
CPU: 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo
1GB RAM
180GB SATA2 HDD
nVidia Quadro FX560 Graphics

I have only managed to get to an installed & successfully rebooted 10.5.1 once; and even then the next time I restarted the system hung immediately after BIOS screen, etc. and just stopped at the 'blinking cursor stage'

I think I have tried virtually every combination of options at the customisable installation stage. The 'most successful' seems to be HDD formated to MBR with MBR EFI, no vanilla kernel and just nvinject drivers.

I have tried everything else and cannot get close to a repeatable, working install. All my BIOS settings are correct as far as I can make out - ie. AHCI on, NX on, etc. I have even tried the 'zero out' erase to make sure my HDD format wasn't corrupted.

Bottom line seems to be that I can get through to a successful install but have only once in many, many attempts got the machine to reboot past the 'blinking cursor' stage.

Anybody got any further suggestions. All help is really appreciated.

Success! Finally i managed to get everything working on a GB GA-965P-DS3 with a ATI X1800 GTO and a Core 2 Duo 2.2Ghz. But one last question, is it safe to use the Update? at present there is a quicktime Update 7.3.1 a security Update 2007-007 and a remot deskto Client Update 3.2.1. I already updated itunes to 7.5 and it seems to work. Have not made a restat since then though...

Has somebody tried the Updates?

And of course World of Warcraft is running perfectly! But i'm missing the alt-tab function of windows to switch between WoW and Safari, someone has a hint for me?

if you got any problem on booting leopard, try press F8 .
Select the drive you want to boot.

man he says that this happens before the darwin loader so what f8 to press?
this is a common problem the only thing i can suggest for now is to load the darwin with the installation dvd
and press F8
now type : rd=diskXsY
mean X= your drive and Y your partition
do you remember in what drive and partition you intalled?
for example : rd=disk1s1

It certainly appears so. My USB drives give an error that they weren't properly dismounted when returning from sleep though. Not sure if that is normal? I couldn't even get reboot or shutdown to work on iATKOS. Everything worked fine in ToH RC2, however.

i dont have GFX, that whas the culprit in my case, even the standard x1000 driver loaded buggered my boot
so i had to remove all x1000 kexts

no it is seen as "unknow processor", but don't worry it works perfectly


of course IDE works, but i recommand you AHCi, because performances are better(NCQ and hot plug capabilities), it is more Mac like( Macs are in AHCI mode).
And i spoke about "DISK sleep" not sleep. Disk sleep locks sometime your sata dvd.

Shouldn't it report as Mac, not hackintosh, if we are running vanilla via guid successfully? Just wondering...?

yes then i realized that you said disk sleep
this is THE 1st thing i do when i boot in osx after installation
cause i have a lot of sata/ide disks and osx power off them
i think i fixed the crashes (let's hope)
right now a sample with 10 effects real time loops in soundtrack pro
a video with a lot of effects in motion
and some videos in final cut timeline
i'll open more apps ,maybe i burn a dvd also ,sometimes also crashed by this

im running kalyway and must say: respect - it just worx! im runnin it on an acer extensa 5220 and i got no power management options. somebudddy got that runnin? would be very nice to know how. everything else perfect here ..

Is it safe to install Windows XP x64 or vista x86 on the 4th partition (3rd after the EFI partition) on GPT after installing OS X. Will Windows overwrite the Darwin boot loader in the MBR boot sector and will it overwrite the protective entry in the MBR. If it will, how can I restore it (the GUID/EFI bootloader).
Any help is appreciated.
