Hey first of all thanks Kaly and Dune, this release kicks ass !!!!

I'm running this on a Dell Opliplex GX620 - I only had to select one of the audio drivers to get the motherboard Audio working ( but I use my Toneport for audio anyway ) everything else worked out of the box !

The only problems encountered so far is that i need to have the install disk in the drive to boot otherwise i get the blinking cursor crap....... I installed Leopard with MBR cause I was tryin to get XP and Vista to Triple boot with it.

With Uphucks Tiger release ( never had graphics acceleration with this one ) I could create 3 partitions on my drive - install XP, then Vista, then Tiger, reset XP as Active partition using Vista install Disk, boot into Vista, use EasyBCD to add Tiger to Vistas Bootloader....... DONE !!! - a Triple boot using Vistas bootloader......... How come I can't do that anymore, I tried a heap of combinations, nothing works........... Any Ideas ????

So, overall an awesome release with everything working perfectly for me, just the issues with the booting ???

What would be the best mobo to use with this release.
What i mean is : All fatures should work like lan , sata , ACPi , sound , all cpu cores after installing with this DVD with no extra effort.

Am planning to buy a MOBo based on this feedback to make life a little easier... biggrin.gif

Where can I download these files?

I've tried searching this thread, but was unable to find anything that exactly matches the problem I'm having.

My specs:
Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1.86Ghz
1GB DDR2-800 RAM
GeForce 7950GT (512MB)
ASUS P5NSLI motherboard
250GB SATA drive (for Windows)
150GB IDE drive (for Leopard)

I'm able to boot the install DVD properly (after entering "-v -x cpus=1"), but I'm having trouble with my HDD. If I format it as MBR, then when I try to install Leopard it says it is "unable to install some files" to my HDD. If I try to format it as GUID, it says that it is creating a partition but it does nothing. When I've selected "erase" instead of "partition," the same thing happens except it says "preparing to erase" and the cursor locks up.

Hey, im not sure if this question was answered or not, ive been reading this forum for days trying to figure it out. I succesfuly download and burned the official installation dvd, it works fine on my newer computer but not on my laptop. I want to put this on my dell inspiron 8200. I recently installed jas 10.4.5 on it with sse2 with no problem. But i wanted this instead. i put the dvd in the drive and boot up from it, i've watched it with the diags so i could see whats going on. it loads for like 4 minutes and then whjen it's loading the system.kext files the screen goes black and the computer restarts. This is an endless loop. Please tell me what i can do to fix this. i tried changeing bios like dune said on one of the previous pages but my comp didn't have some of the settings. Thanks!

Kalyway 10.5.1 DVD installed on Vaio VGN-TZ17MN (a very small sub-notebook). If Mac OS would work on this laptop it would make it the best lap-top bar none.

I chose the vanilla install option on the DVD. It seems to have worked. The partition is MBR. I am not sure if I have EFI or not.

Computer booting fine into Apple. Sound, USB, DVD, Blue Tooth work fine. The screen works on 75% of the display (ist shifted about 2.5 inches to the left with the rest blank. Basically no wide screen but the picture otherwise perfect. It also does not see the intergrated network adapter which is a bigger problems. When it goes into sleep i can not bring it back without rebooting.

The hardware is:

Intel Chipse GMA 950, Ethernet Marvel Yukon 88E8055 PCI-E the Wifi adapter is 4965AGN. The grafics is Intel INtegrated I am not sure wha the number would be.

Is there a simple place where i can download and install direvers (kekxts?) for those? i tired to terminal scripts but I could not figure them out or make them work. How can I tell if I have EFI or not?As you can imagine it is almost there which is really frustrating.

Any help would be most appreciated and thank you all very much for the wonderful work. Cheers, Y

I believe this problem is solved by going into the Bios Menu (probably "f2" at POST with Sony) and choosing "Extend screen option enabled" or maybe it was the other around... you can find out fast enough. I believe this fix is even listed at the dusty ol' Wiki HCL for 10.4.8... TURN off sleep on your laptop in the system prefs, until you have found out what works, to avoid having to reboot. Just leave the screen saver/monitor sleep activated, that should save alot of energy in any case. For me, the standard Kaly options seem to work fine with sleep on the Sony SZ5... magic!

With the Sony SZ5 laptop, I assume I have EFI because I am running the vanilla kernel (impossible otherwise) and "About this MAC" reports "MacBook Pro! Otherwise on the EFI site or here I remember some GREP command within the frameworks to see what/which efi you are using... seek-and-yee-shall-find.

good luck,

Hi Everyone,

I m try Kalyway 10.5.1 with following config:
ASUS P5KR
ADATA 2G RAM
XFX6800GS
P4 530D
SATA Matox HD x 2 (one with WinXP installed, I planned to use the other HD for mac)
SATA Lite-On DVD Recorder

In my BIOS setting,
I use SATA Configuration - [Enhanced] and configure SATA as - [IDE]
also disabled j-micron eSATA/PATA Controller
and use default BIOS values for the rest settings

I was successfully boot from the DVD and the installation seems finish with no errors.
but when it first reboot, it either show a black blank screen with a underscore cursor, or keep rebooting after showing ??? Darwin??? (i forget)..

Actually, I have tried difference option in the customize box when install:

With or Without Vanilla_Kernel and Vanilla_ACPI_fix
either NVINJECT_nvidia_laptop or NATIT_gfnvidia
HDA_ALC883 (DS3)
either BOOT_efi_mbr or BOOT_efi_guid

but I still unable the boot the system.

Is anything I am wrong? Thanks a lot

You probably selected MBR EFI when your disk was partitioned as GUID, or vice versa.

Kaly or Dune, you should really put this in the first post, because this question keeps coming back and people are not willing to read the thread before posting.

Instant reboots during install kext loading....

I have been trying to install KALYWAY 10.5.1 on a computer where I used to, and still have a working osx86 10.4.5. It's a custom P4 SS2 only with an Intel motherboard.

However, the install process instantly reboots during one of the kext loads. I have tried -v but there is no way I have time to see which kext causes the reboot. A GUI never comes up. I have also tried most boot options found in this thread, none help.

I have tried the same install DVD on another computer, where it boots to the GUI.

Is there any way to figure out which kext causes the instant reboot?

I manage to see the instant reboot is caused by some System.kext.. before the screen goes dead. This is with boot params '-s cpus=1'. What other params could I try?

Is there not any way to slow down or log the loading process to see which kext causes the instant reboot?

Is there anything we have to put on the DVD in addition to the ISO file? I just put the ISO and when I try to install, it goes to the Apple loading screen and then I get this circle-slash thing. It just freezes at that point. I waited like 5 minutes after it came up, so I don't think it works.

How exactly did you burn the ISO? It's a disk image, so you don't "put it on the disk." You burn it directly, and there's no way to put any other files on the same disk. On Windows, I recommend using Imgburn.

I dunno if this happens/ed to anyone.

Here the installation takes ages, the "DOS" part takes a lot of time and when the GUI cames it is very slow.
The "DOS" part scrolls very slowly meaning that it is taking too much time to load from the DVD.
Never happened on any other MACOS releases. Even with Kaly's release of Tiger.

I´ve burned three times and the last one I re-downloaded the ISO from the Torrent.

MD5 sums are fine, but this is making me mad.

Any clues?!

The problem was that I needed to set SATA Configuration as AHCI. Now it's installing, but the installer doesn't have a patch for Geforce 8 series. I think I have the patch on my hard drive. Can someone tell me how to open it in OSX and patch the installation?

@yahia...

here's the efi stuff you asked for:

to check if EFI installed, I use ioreg from terminal (I'm not sure if it's only installed with XCODE). Type: ioreg -p IODeviceTree -b -n efi | grep "efi" -C 4 and you should get something like

CODE
+-o Root <class IORegistryEntry, retain 13>
+-o / <class IOPlatformExpertDevice, registered, matched, active, busy 0, retain 25>
+-o efi <class IOService, !registered, !matched, active, busy 0, retain 7>

I'm having the exact same problem. It gets into the Mac screen but after a while I get that no smoking sign and it freezes.

I'm using a Gigabyte P35C-DS3R with a Q6600 processor and 4 gigs of OCZ memory.

I've got a 250 gig SATA hard drive partitioned with Vista installed on the first partition, the second is set to active and ready to be formatted by OSX when it boots.

I've got a SATA burner by Samsung and I'm using the Kalyway Leopard disc.

Any advice?

On my gigabyte P35- DS4 with a vanilla EFI I had very weird problems such as kernel panics when decompressing large files and Ethernet freeze (experienced by a number of people here) despite bios tweaks mentioned in this thread.I changed my bios to AHCI and everything works 100%Time machine/ Software update / ethernet / Protools 7.4 with mbox2I have no idea why but AHCI mode solved all my problems.I was unable to get my Asus 8500 GT video card (using NVinject 0.2.1) to work so I used a 7300 GT and it works fineNow I just have to make XP AHCI capableThanks for an amazing release. This really rocks
Well for me and Vista that part was EASY. GO here and try this http://www.itwriting.com/blog/?p=288

Is your SATA controller set to AHCI mode? Which controller are you using (purple or yellow)? I recommend not using the JMicron(purple) one, and disable it in the BIOS. It's shitty.

I have the same mobo, cpu and also used a Samsung SATA DVD drive, and did not have this problem.

No, there is no command to skip that package. The -v and -s flags are kernel flags and have nothing to do with the actual install.

Problems like this are usually bad downloads or bad burns or bad disks.

What did you use to unzip the download? There are some unzippers that appear to work but in fact result in a corrupted ISO file.

I'd say you have an incompatible IDE controller. Try installing on your SATA drive instead.

Booted up into the installer, and went to the screen to select a HD, and only my XP HD showed up. I have one XP one, and the other used to have Ubuntu but I deleted the partition, did fixmbr and just went on using XP. Do I have to format the second drive a different way? I've installed the kalyway dvd and I can't get leopard to boot. I'm stuck on the grey apple logo. I've tried to boot with multiple different parameters (-x, -legacy, ...) but I'm always stuck at the same point (see screenshot attached).

ATI X1450 (ouch wacko.gif )
Leopard installed on an external USB hard disk
Install: kernel vanilla and efi mbr (I've tried not to install the included drivers, the natit in particular, but always the same problem)

Hi everyone!

I got it up and running (just 1024 resolution so far but i am working on it)!

But when I run repair permissions I get some error that wont get fixed and I wonder whetherthat is just all right or I made an mistake and should start over (now that I just installed the basic system).

It is about a lot of SUID files that can not be reapired because they have been modified and some permission errors with X11 (that do not get repaired neither).

See the attached pic for the error messages. is that ok or is there something wrong? Is this critical? Should I try to solve all those warnings? How can I fix it?

Thank you!

All of those SUID errors are normal - we all have that.

Well then I'd say you are just not going to get it installed on that box. Some kind of basic incompatibility somewhere. It happens.

Have you tried your DVD on another system? This will tell you whether it's the DVD or the box you are installing on.

I don't have another system... I'm using an old sh***y computer for forum work while it is incapasitated(sp)...

Um, could it be because I have my processor overclocked? I don't see how considering it is a package verification failure...

Or because I have an ide dvd drive installing to a sata HDD?

That was my stupid mistake. Double checked AHCI. Once that was done it booted and installed without a hitch.

Now I've got OSX installed and I just need to do some fine tuning. I didn't bother to install a bootloader first, is there one that's easy to install in OSX? I can just restart and use the boot disk to get back into Windows, certainly, but I should probably solve that problem in the near future.

Otherwise, the hard part is one.

hi,

can someone help with the Kalyway install? I tried it out with my P5W DH Deluxe but no luck. I tried IDE and SATA DVD and it restarts at 1 minute left on install.
I tried to boot up on it but I get the Please hold to restart message. Can anyone help me?

I successfully installed 10.5.1 before using the hard drive image install using windows and manually patched EFI (v.3 i think).

Thanks in advance
