When you try to "activate" Maya on a PC or Mac, you supply the FlexLM licensing application with a key based on your ethernet's mac address. That's generated by editing the aw.dat file and applying it over awkeygen.exe on a PC.

That much I understand because I've done it several times for my PC... but it never works for my mac installation. When I use the EN2 mac address (the one that my Net is accessed through), it doesnt work... it says Invalid Host Identifier.

When I use the software utility to tell me which hardware identifiers it can use, on the PC I get about 5 mac addresses, on the Mac installation I get nothing. So how do I know which mac address to use, and if the FlexLM licensing utility isnt giving me any hardware identifiers to choose from, what do I do?

I badly need Maya on my mac installation for college.. any ideas guys?

UPDATE : PROBLEM FIXED...
--------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks VERY much for the advice/links smile.gif I now have Maya 2008 working on my Hackintosh (10.4.10 from 10.4.8)

For those reading this thread, here is a simple rundown of what to do

1. Download THIS FILE
2. Extract the kext file
3. Move it to /System/Library/Extensions and Authenticate the move/replace with your password
4. Open a terminal (Finder>go>utilities>terminal)
5. Type (without "" marks) "sudo su", press enter
6. When prompted, type your user password, press enter
7. Type "cd /System/Library/Extensions", press enter
8. Type "chown root:wheel IONetworkingFamily.kext", press enter
9. Type "chmod 755 IONetworkingFamily.kext", press enter
10. Type "rm /System/Library/Extensions.*", press enter
11. IMPORTANT: Go to Finder>Utilities and open DISK UTILITY.
12. Click on your MAC partition and click Repair Permissions
13. Reboot, licence maya as per instruction (ie, Aw.dat/awkeygen.exe)

Enjoy Maya and thanks OSX86MX

i have the same problem, no ethernet found tell me the Terminal with lmhostid command
lucaspeed
Just launch System Prefs - Network and double click on "Integrated Ethernet" (don't worry if you don't use it for accessing the net).
In the "Ethernet" tab you'll find the MAC address to enter in the aw.dat file.
arhopkins3
Its not that *I* can't find the MAC address, its that Mayas licensing utility doesnt seem to be able to. When you ask it for a list of hardware identifiers that it would accept for the mac address, it shows none (same pc on vista shows 5)
pestana
if we use a ethernet pci card from Intel, for example, that can be identified has native by the osx86 can solve this problem?????
lucaspeed
Maya looks for "Integrated Ethernet" MAC address and you don't need to bother with any "licensing utility".
Just enter the SysPrefs MAC address in the aw.dat file and drop it on the keygen utility *IN WINDOWS*.
The resulting file goes in /var/flexlm/ (create it as necessary).

It works 100% of the time.
arhopkins3
This is the problem I have. I've used lmcrypt and awkeygen on PC, as per instructions on both a Maya 8.5 and a Maya 2008 install but neither work.
When I check which hardware identifiers Maya is expecting to see, I see the image below. Any help/ideas? I've successfully gotten MacOS working on my PC and I've gotten CS3 Suite working etc... so I'm not being dumb... or am I?

DearAll

Just want to addd some note on this matter, I did sucess on the MBP, but no light on x86, my x86 equipted with broadcom 5789 and it was able to connected the net and surf, but there's no Ethernet ID under system peference , than I check again via terminal, it did show the Ethernet ID, so I follow the usual way and no luck....so anyone score under x86; mind to shed more light....lastly anyone can tell me how to manually add the Ethernet ID before Boot (@ Darwin bootloader menu).... rolleyes.gif

I have the same problem, anyone found a solution?
ratmandu
I believe there is a solution to this somewhere on the board. I will search for it now. I had the same problem a bit ago, and it was fixed by editing something either in the network controller kext file, or in the source for the driver, then compiling it. It has something to do with tricking OSX into thinking it is a built in (or "Integrated") network device. Once i did it, it had worked perfectly.. but this was several months ago.

EDIT: Here's a posting from Semthex's blog on how to do this. It involves recompiling the IONetwork.kext to make the network interface a "Primary" one.
http://www.semthex.com/index.php?option=co...22&Itemid=2

Good Luck!
arhopkins3
Hey thanks for the information.... It sounds just what I need, unfortunately I'm new to kext editing and compiling. I'll use that page as a basis for further research. If anybody has any handy hints on how to edit then re-compile the kext mentioned in that semthex page, I'd be very grateful to get it.

I simply used Apple's Software Update to upgrade the Kernel from 10.4.8 to 10.4.10. I am using an uphuck install dvd (the latest release, intel only). It worked first time without bother.

As for your Maya not starting... I can't help as mine starts normally. If your aw.dat file is accepted correctly by the PCW app then its maybe worth just re-installing Maya ?

what is the 13th step?

I've logged in as root and made those steps regarding IONetworkingFamily.kext
no luck....i always end up having broken network, and it continues to see the built in as an internal modem rather than ethernet i can figure out a mac address to spcify in maya .dat license... am i the only one here who cannot make maya work on hacked leopard?
Sinstormer
I've got it working following the directions on the first page. But before that I followed the Ethernet guide on a the 965P-DS3 ToH Leopard/Brazil thread in the How-To's. Now only if I can get After Effects running...

For those of you for whom this isn't working as outlined in the first post:

download this file: http://tinyurl.com/27frv7
(I got it from a thread on getting DWL-G520 working: http://forum.insanelymac.com/lofiversion/i...hp/t69330.html)

this is IONetworkingFamily (with no extension, a unix binary) which you need to copy into the kext package, something like (assuming you downloaded onto your desktop)

CODE
sudo cp ~/Desktop/IONetworkingFamily /System/Library/Extensions/IONetworkingFamily.kext/Contents/MacOS/IONetworkingFamily

or do it in the finder with "show package contents" from right clicking the kext and Authenticating.

I repaired permissions, of course, reboot, and now your Autodesk Product Configuration wizard will see your device (for me: en0, onboard realtek of my P5K-Premium)

Now I REALLY wish someone would explain how to compile these kexts for future, or show me where to learn.

Cheers, could we add this to the first post too?

All you need to know is that Maya needs your ethernet address. You should check if your ethernet address on your hack is the same as on your PC (If you are running the 'app' there). If you open the aw.dat file, you will see your ethernet address
CODE
HOSTID=XXXXXXXXXX

Check the FlexLM tools and see...

to get maya working on leopard....lets start with the installation process from stage 1.. i have also included some screen shots to help you get an idea of the process.

if you have already installed Maya and having the trouble with the license key then i would recommend you uninstalling the software first.

then, reinstall maya 08 on your mac.

a)after that to get the license key working first... you will have to use the awkey... and aw.dat Click to view attachment
b)then you will have to use windows xp (preferably!!) to do this next step. Go to C:\ and then create a new folder called FLEXLM
Click to view attachmentClick to view attachment
c) copy the aw.dat and the awkegen on that folder and then open the aw.dat file using notepad from the list of program selections.

d) once you open the aw.dat file.. you will notice that the file will have the following details; "FEATURE MayaUnltd sgiawd 2008 permanent uncounted 0 \ HOSTID=your_host. "
you will need to replace the your_host with your IP address. NOW PLEASE REMEMBER, since you will be using it in a mac, you will need to put the MAC ID of your macintosh/hack!. so moving on to the next step.

e) to get your macintosh/hack's MAC ID, go to system preferences and then click on the network icon from the internet & Network section.

f) then you will have to select ethernet from your left side of the pane and then click on the advance button.

g) click ethernet (the one towards extreme right) and you will get your MAC address
In my case my ethernet ID was 00:1d:7d:06:2e:88.. i am sure your's will be different!

h) then copy that MAC ID and then paste it in place of "your_host in your aw.dat file which you opened using notepad on windows xp

i) then remove the " : " that are there in between the MAC ID on your aw.dat file.. so now in my case from " 00:1d:7d:06:2e:88 ", it will look like " FEATURE MayaUnltd sgiawd 2008 permanent uncounted 0 \ HOSTID=001d7d062e88 "

j) after you are done with the step " i) ", then save the file and then close the notepad program. then simply drag the aw.dat file onto awkeygen and drop it

k) to check whether it has worked or not, again open the aw.dat file using notepad. if you see that following underlined no. " 0 " in " FEATURE MayaUnltd sgiawd 2008 permanent uncounted 0 \ HOSTID=001d7d062e88" has changed to a set of nos. (please remember that the nos. will be different for you guys as your MAC IDs will be different then mine!!) like the one underlined " FEATURE MayaUnltd sgiawd 2008 permanent uncounted D11551D6333C \ HOSTID=001d7d062e88 "... you guys HAVE DONE IT!!

l) then just close it and copy the aw.dat file onto a pen drive.. and fire up your macbook/hack... once you have logged in and are on your mac desktop, go to FINDER and then select " GO " and then click on " Go To Folder " Click to view attachment

j)type " /var/flexlm " without the " " quotes.

h) you will find an aw.dat file inside it... plug in your usb drive and just simply replace this aw.dat file with the modified one!!
.. your mac will probably ask for password to confirm your actions.. you will have to type your user password... preferably you should log in as the administrator when you are doing this!!

i) after that close that window and fire up maya 08

j) WALLAH!!.. you have maya 08 on your mac/HACK!!
shivdreamz18
GUYS ONE MORE THING...make sure that you only put your ethernet MAC ID address in tht aw.dat file.. and not the MAC ID of your airport's address.. otherwise.. you are sure to run into trouble...

ONLY ETHERNET and a complete NO NO on AIRPORT!!

hope this helps!
chreesn
thanks, my ethernet is recognized, and now my maya finally works:
