Just wanted everyones thoughts. What are your favorite ISOs? My favourites are:

For VMware Compatibility & Most Universally Compatible:
JaS 10.4.8

Best Hardware Supports: Uphuck 1.4 and 1.3 series

Most useless and unusable: Deadmoo and Maklar

And one more thing:

The ISO I currently use:
Uphuck v1.4iR3

Open discussion. What are your opinions?
Alessandro17
I have build my last 3 computers with maximum OS X compatibility in mind.
Thus, after Myzar 10.4.4 I have always used JaS, never a problem.
I haven't even considered downloading Uphuck, having read how many problems people were having.
Deadmoo? You must be joking, that belongs to the Stone Age.

While I have JaS 10.4.8 on my Asrock, XxX is my new favourite on my new mobo (see sig). I just love hitting Software update and getting:

Plus, how can you argue with a processor speed of 16.93 GHz?

Thanks to JaS 10.4.8 I had my first Hackintosh and it is solid like a rock and still working like a charm. With my JaS partition I've learned and practiced a lot of things with the Hackintosh. So sad JaS decided to retire.

Then I tried uPhuck, It's good. I've found various problems with it.

It's a little tricky to get TubeGirl installed (it's for AMDs right?) but it works in my Intel!. As good as JaS, maybe better, it works excellent . I'm using this one from now on.

Also tried Kalyway, didn´t work for my hardware.

XxX (Intel Only). Blackchungo did it just for try, and..., It´s a wonderful installer, fast, clean, up to date. He has a tremendous potential, he had tracked the way he did it in another site. I've found two little problems with it. It's his first release, It's going to be a champion. Please, don't forget AMD users.

We, Hackusers, are very lucky, four good installer creators. Maybe it's impossible to have an installer for each and every mobo, processor, etc, so get the best suited for your needs.

Sorry for my bad English.

Saludos desde la Ciudad de México!

I remain of the opinion that we should build a hackintosh with the most compatible hardware (if we can afford it).
In most cases it will be cheaper than a Mac Mini with a few extras (and a lot faster and more flexible).

well then should we start a new thread or continue this thread on posting the most compatible hardware.. can someone get this organised.. kinda an ideal hardware configuration.coz i dont mind spending a few bucks to actually go buy a spare system coz ive so fallen in love with a mac.. biggrin.gif i know.. saw the light
hecker
You forgot to put the best DVD for AMD in the list: tubgirl.

There are hundreds such threads. Anyway, tell us how much you want to spend and maybe we can fix something for you.

I used to use JaS, coz his were the most perfect releases. I used upto 10.4.8. The deadmoo image was by far the easiest to get up and running on ANY system.

Now I use Apple Releases coz they make the best versions of OSX biggrin.gif
bwhsh8r
uphuck & mr rodgers
~pcwiz
I'll add Tubgirl and Mr Rogers to the list smile.gif

I am using Uphuck but I am a HUGE JaS fan. If other DVDs don't work, good chance JaS will work perfectly. Its very universal.
MrRogers

I don't go around calling you "pc wiz" do I?
Toaster37
Tubgirl

Why mention Deadmoo and Marklar at all? They were there in the beginning, had their uses, but people moved on as we later got 10.4.4, .5, etc...
Anyway... If you want to go through the historical releases, you should add Goatsecx to complete the 'trinity'... wink.gif
CJS
hmm... but uphuck doesn't have rosetta?

JaS, 10.4.8 and updated to 10.4.10. XxX is my new favorite too, but only based upon your comments here. I didn't try it yet.

JaS 10.4.8 updated to JaS 10.4.9 with a SSE2 kernel on my Laptop
JaS 10.4.8 updated to JaS 10.4.9 with a SSE3 kernel on my desktop - experimenting with other releases, JaS seems to be most successful and compatible on my systems
~pcwiz
I've tried 4 ISOs:

JaS 10.4.8
Uphuck 1.4iR3
Kalyway 10.4.10
Deadmoo

JaS works the best in VMware, Uphuck works the best on my system. Kalyway didn't work for me at all, it loaded the extensions and the machine reboots. But thats not to blame on the Kalyway DVD because my machine doesn't work with kernels higher than 8.8.1. Deadmoo is junk. It wouldn't even load in VMware.

*Also*

LOL...MrRogers is voting for his own ISO. No offense, but it doesn't seem like anyone is using MrRogers.

My new favorite is XxX. It has hardware support for most of the hardware that the community has gotten to work. Another thing I like about it is the fact that it's not modified. It contains all the screenavers, wallpapers, applications...etc
It's also the first version that actually runs fast on my SSE2 system since 10.4.7!!!
And for the first time ever, my fx5200 was detected as AGP after install.
~pcwiz
I would try out XxX too, but my system can't run any kernel higher than 8.8.1 even though its SSE3 because newer kernels are unstable.
Onetrack
My first was Hotiso 10.4.6 and it worked brilliantly - but when trying to upgrade it I utterly killed the installation
Swapped motherboards and installed Jas 10.4.8 and was successfull in updating it to 10.4.10
Recently changed out motherboards again - now on the MSI board and using Kalyway - for me its perfect.
Uphuck could never find my drives, and xxx refused to boot after a full installation.

Kalyway - All the way!
NewGuyhere
I am using Kalyway and love it. I tried all the other ones but for some reason Kalyway was accepted by my system biggrin.gif

worked out everything out of the box accept video but that's because its FireGL 7100

I can run updates
Plextor DVD/CD works great burning etc
Ram shows correctly
CPU show slightly faster from 3.4 to 4Ghz biggrin.gif
video PNY 7300GT with Titan driver works out of the box no hackcing

I get 134 w/o hd on xbench and 107 with hd

anyway kalyway was the way to go for me
macmuslim
I like uphuck for his several and very stable releases, but continue to respect old dear JaS, which I used to bulid my first hackintosh. Thanks to all guys whom work in this great project.

Happy Ramadan to all Muslims!
~pcwiz
My favourites are JaS and Uphuck and they will continue to be.

JaS is universally compatible, bug free and it works on almost any computer

Uphuck it takes longer to set up and configure but it works very fast once installed.

Used JaS 10.4.6, updated with JaS 10.4.7, Apple official update 10.4.9 + SpeedStep Kernel.
lord of the view
I used Uphuck 10.4.9, but then used the KoolKal update to 10.4.10. The cool think about the KoolKal update, is it let me install the Apple Security updates. Either way, the installs went smoothly.

My first ISO was JaS 10.4.8 AMD Intel and it worked flawlessly. I've since moved on to the XxX 10.4.10 disc, which has worked quite well and I'm currently aquiring the Kalyway disc to give it a shot this weekend.

We are such geeks. We treat ISOs as girlfriends. "I first started with Jas. We didn't work out, so I moved on to Uphuck. We learned a lot from each other, but didn't have anything in common. Now I'm with Tub Girl, and I think this is THE ONE."
clintoy
jas is it!!! i used jas 10.4.8 installer, used apple delta os updates and some of old working kexts, now i got 10.4.10 running rock solid...
XeroGlitch
I used Jas up till 10.4.8 , now i use Tubgirl for 10.4.10, installed flawlessly!

I'm running Kalyway 10.4.10 v 1.1 with installed Safari/Rosetta packages. Works great! Best ISO yet.

The XxX 10.4.10 XxX breaks OpenGL on my notebook 9700 Radeon Mobility AGP 64Mb (reported as 128Mb) - note this is a fresh install.
OpenGL works great on JaS 10.4.8, 10.4.9 on the SSE2 machine right out of the box.

On XxX 10.4.10 XxX I can get CE and QI supported after using the 10.4.8/10.4.9 files from the extensions folder (including kexts and frameworks). All seems to be working and smooth except for OpenGL, it is broken and emulators and games using hardware acceleration won't work (Power64, Zuma).
Replacing the OpenGL.framework that was installed by 10.4.10 by the 10.4.8/10.4.9 one doesn't change things. This is a shame as the XxX install is about as compatible as JaS: I replaced the AC'97 kext to have sound and I needed to use the 8.9.1 kernel because of the SSE2 cpu. Perhaps the fact that it is an 10.4.9 kernel and a patched system.kext that is causing OpenGL to break. I have yet to find out how it is integrated into the OSX system in order to remedy this.

Have other people with similar Graphics cards experienced broken OpenGL support? Mind you QE and CI seem to be supported in the System Properties and the widgets screen loads smooth with like it actually is.

The 8.10.1 and 8.10.3 kernels are unstable on my system (continually reboots when loading)

I use XxX 10.4.10 with PPF1 patch. I install it using no drivers whatsoever and it loads no problem and i then put the sound, net and graphics drivers on after. its a superb system as long as you dont try to do too much with the included software as it just wont work.
mindXploder
JaS 10.4.8 + 10.4.9 update with PPF1+2 was my first and (so far) only image. It works great and everything was detected out of box (from GMA950 to Wireless).. but reading this post, I can't help wonder.. unsure.gif

What if I try another ISO like Uphuck or XxX? Can I go even faster? Or will I just be risking to waste my time on downloading and installing something that couldn't been much better than what I got right now?

My specs:
Core 2 Duo 4400
Intel MoBo with 945GZ chipset (plus GMA950)
1 ghz kingston ram

Q: Which version is best for LaptopsAnyway, i'm using Mac OS X 10.4.9 UpHuck v1.4 r2which is running like a #'{!! it's amazing apart from no driver for my realtek ac97 audio! :(Uphuck is good, what about HOTiso & goatsecx or tubgirl

Personally I like macdotnub_OSx86_10.4.10_Install_Disk-v1-r5.iso the best tongue.gif

10.4.10 works even on my nForce board thanks to my modded 8.10.1 kernel smile.gif

i haven't had to reinstall for a long time. but if i had to, i'd use 10.4.4 for partitioning, JaS 10.4.8 for install, then update to 10.4.11 beta from the service packs. not as time consuming as it sounds, as i have a couple installation partitions on my hard drives.

ridiculous as it might me seem, i would never download anything called Uphuck, Goatsecx, or Tubgirl. the names make me want to hurl! wink.gif
macgirl
I always used severa TubGirl's but since I had a new job there are ony Intel Dells there so I used uphuck's that did not work very well so I used Jas 10.4.8 that worked flawlesly, also in my Mac Dell XPS.
manabry44
jas and definitly jas....i started by jas 10.4.8...it was my first try...but now im using XxX...its EXTREMELY fast...faster than jas...never tried anything else...and dont think i will....i will shift to Leopard i think:)
