Hey guys, I have a basic understanding of servers, and can get apache up and serving webpages to the internets pretty easily. My question is, how could I set up a proxy (i've heard it's possible with apache) so that I could access it from outside of my network (at school) and access pages which are blocked on the school's filter... I realize there are many public ones but it seems that their filter has really gotten on top of blocking those.. if I could have my own small unknown server, this wouldn't be a problem... thanks!

personally - to get around school blocks... i VNC into my linux box from home because i find proxy servers arent always great with tossing up web pages.... i tried to use one to get to my myspace from school.... when i tried to log in it said i needed to be logged in to do that
http://forum.insanelymac.com/style_emotico...ault/unsure.gifso... i managed to install a VNC client on to my personally hdd space in the school and leave my linux box on with its VNC server on...

http://www.jmarshall.com/tools/cgiproxy/ or
http://whitefyre.com/poxy/Also, if you want a quick and easy way without apache
http://peacefire.org/circumventor/simple-c...structions.html will allow you to install a proxy on your computer or a server running windows.

I've done the same thing. I think a
CGI Proxy is what you're looking for. Thats what I use. It took a bit of fiddling about to get it to work (since I'm not great with servers and associated software), but I eventually got it to work, and it is a godsend.
