Hello everybody,

after a bit of absence, I am back with my input.
I recently purchased this acer laptop and today I had a chance to install OSX on it.

everything went smoothly, the install, detection of the drives etc..

once booted off, Intel integrated graphics (GMA 950) working with the supplied patch on the Jas 10.4.7 DVD
Audio, fixed with placing the corrent vendor id to the plist
Wiress lan, worked with the Atheros kext.

Overall, everything seems to be running smoothly with both cores enabled.

Honestly I was not expecting this gadget to be this much compatible.

One small problem is that I can not use the headphone jack in the front.
I was really hoping to listen to my music while on the go or in the library at school.
Anyhow, I dont know if there is a solution for such problem. I would appreciate any help.

This acer is priced $699 in futureshop, in Canada.

Anyone who is looking for a perfect OSX machine, i highly recommend it.

Thanks.

Some other finds,

Just installed the Powermanagement bundle for the battery
also computer sleeps and wakes up with the lid.

only issue remaining is the front jack which i doubt will be solvable.

Hi,

What pcmcia card bus does your acer model have?

I have the ENE CB-712/714/810 card bus in a acer aspire 5610z and can't get it working, in your specs you listed that your pcmcia works, if it is the same as mine how did you get it to work?

Thanks!

If you don't mind, how did you get the audio to work? I can't figure it out. I have the wireless and ethernet working and video is fine. But the audio eludes me.

Would JAS 10.4.8 work equally well?
amdmatt
i have a acer 5610-4648 and i used this .pkg for my audio (Realtek HD Audio):
http://www.flyupload.com/?fid=8635747
that worked for me and my front audio headphone jack works perfectly.

also could you link the power management bundle you used? i installed the one on the osx86 wiki 3rd party drivers page and my batter meter works perfectly on the menu bar however i can not get sleep to work.. when i would close the lid i could never get os x back up.. i would have to do a hard shutdown then reboot and if i go to apple>sleep it just sleeps for a second then auto wakes back up...

thanks and i hope the audio pkg helps!

I have installed JAS 10.4.8 onto the second partition of the Acer Aspire 5570z | 5570-2609

I am however unable to use ethernet & wi-fi - and can't seem to get it running. Don't have audio yet either, but haven't tried resolving that yet.

My install misses a NetworkInterfaces.plist and even after re-creating one (similar issue for another aspire user for whom it was resolved), I still get no network devices???

Maybe my network card is different than the one you linked? Not Atheros based - http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=33089 I've tried the instructions with the 10.4.5 kext and, while it seems to load it successfully in terminal, I don't get anything network wise listed.

Also, after the screen - or at least the display - system goes in standby I cannot wake it. Everything remains black. Is that resolved OK with the powermanagement bundle?

Would it be better to try the uphuck 1.3 disc? Which may contain a series of drivers to avoid manual installations? Or not?

Sorry I am absolutely new to this. I really appreciate help / other people's advice on this final driver issues.

Additionally, how would I reboot the machine and start Vista? I did not erase the hard drive, nor overwrite the vista partition, but upon reboot, the Darwin loader starts OS X. So, I can't verify the technical data of the computer components. [Edit] saw something about chain 0 ... want wifi to work first.

Thanks

Still no luck with networking.

Tried the audio driver and noticed I get sound through the headphone jack, not the speakers. Have no idea yet about the ports thing.

I was encouraged by your very positive indications, but I feel like I am missing a step or two to get it up and running. Long posts through the board, some solutions here and there, but more error with trials to get somewhat closer, if it doesn't get worse. Plus, I had sound once actually via headphones playing some sample mov on a USB stick. Later did not seem to work anymore?

I note you wrote this guide for 10.4.7 - http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...mp;#entry315555 Which I will look into again. It was late last night. Hopefully it offers clues as to what I am missing and/or doing wrong.

I was pleased to find that my 5570z will run a much better OS than it came with, but I'm running into issues after the install is finished.

After the BIOS screen all I see is a blinking dash at the top of the screen and my hard drive light doesn't even blink, like it's not being accessed.

Did I not select the right packages?
Do I need a different kernel?

If someone could just outline exactly what they did that worked, that would be awesome.

-thanks in advance

EDIT: I installed 10.4.9

Hello all,

So I'm also pretty much a newbie at this, and I can't get it to work with my Acer Aspire 5570..... Tried various kernels with various additional options and fixes, but none of them work. Installation is fine -- no problems there, it's simply when I try to boot AFTER installation when nothing happens. Here are my specs:

DVD: Uphuck 10.4.9 v1.3
Processor: Intel Centrino Duo 1.73GHz
Mem: 2GB
Video: 945 Intel
Installed on 6GB partition (disk 0, partition 2)

At this point I don't really care if ethernet/wireless works, I just want to have the basic installation working. But, depending on which kernel I select during installation, I get either a white screen with the Apple logo at bootup, or it's followed by a light blue screen with nothing, but either way it doesn't do anything after that.

Any hints to which kernel I should select during installation, which other options I HAVE to select and which ones I absolutely SHOULDN'T select?

Thanks much! smile.gif

2 questions:

1, Eskurza: How'd you get the sleep to work? Link kext plz?

And AMDmatt: Did you ever figure out if getting the camera working on the 4648 is possible? I have one as well and I'd like to get it working, that and sleep are the only 2 steps missing to make sthings perfect.
