Colonel
After months of development, Apple appears to be finalizing the development of the next Mac OS X version, 10.5 Leopard. Along with Leopard, Apple is finishing development on the iLife '07 and iWork '07 application suites, which are supposedly going to take advantage of Leopard's Core Animation feature. Leopard, iLife, and iWork are rumored to be released sometime around late March. Think Secret has more info on Leopard and the latest iApps.
Alongside the release of Version 10.5, code-named Leopard, will be new versions of Apple's consumer software suites, iLife '07 and iWork '07, which saw their release date pushed back due to expanded feature sets in both the applications. In addition, sources confirm that iLife '07 and iWork '07 will both contain numerous features dependent on Mac OS X 10.5, but whether Apple has made the unlikely and drastic move of completely axing support for earlier operating systems is less certain.

As late as mid-2006, Apple had planned to release iLife '07 and iWork '07 in January at Macworld Expo, as the company has done in previous years. But discontent over the quality of some of the new additions to the software, including Apple's first standalone spreadsheet application, saw the release pushed back. At the same time, according to sources, Apple made the decision to wrap Leopard-specific features into the new iLife and iWork suites, originally planned for future releases of the software, possibly to further encourage sales of all three products.
Anybody else ready to see Steve again?

. I can't wait until this is released. I hope this would be much more effective than it is right now.

I'm looking forward to see Macintosh 10,5 OS in spring!

Apple is doing such a great job!

If Apple is releasing Leopard and iLife in March, they're really breaking with tradition in two senses. iLife upgrades are usually always announced at MacWorld, and major operating system releases are usually done at the WWDC keynote. Then again, it is obvious that they have drastically changed their strategies over-all. Unlike in the past, Apple is managing to keep us wondering until the very last minute about which rumors are actually true. Now even the slightest Apple-sponsored event could be a possibility for some major announcement.

iLife 07 is probably backward-compatible with Tiger. If they strictly limited it to Leopard, they would never get sufficient sales. Maybe it won't run as smoothly and some features might not be available, but it will at least run for the most part. iLife 06 depended heavily on Spotlight's index services and on Core Image, but yet it still worked on 10.3.9. wink.gif

I bet we won't see most or all of the things rolled out until WWDC. But Steve has certainly been known to surprise. smile.gif

This is so exciting.
I wonder if they will offer some kind of cheap upgrade plan they did when I bought my PowerBook G4 right before Tiger came out.
Or maybe that was only my college either way that was a sweet deal cause all I had to do was a proof a the recent purchase of a PowerBook G4 with Panther installed and for a fraction of the full price I got a upgrade disk to Tiger.

Anyway, hopefully semthex will follow realese very quickly so my Hakintosh isn't left behind.

Hopefully apple will just open it up and allow it installable smile.gif

I doubt this, right now, leo looks like tiger with a few new fancy apps. Unless apple does some serious coding in the next month, I wouldn't excpect this, unless the real builds of leo are different than the ones that are being pirated
non sequitur
of course they will be! the dev releases only contain what the devs need to see in order to keep the programs usable in leopard. why would they give all of their secrets (which we all know the protect with their lives) to clients that dont have to answer to them?
there will be a few brand new features that havent been announced, i think. and there will most likely be an update to the gui.

Oh boy i can't wait !
Bring it on ;-)

What's that hurry for? That's just a rumor! I think it's just another speculation about the release dates of these three products! In my opinion they will be released by the end of may or the beginning of june, on the WWDC 07! You people just calm down, nothing will happen in March!
brewno
March, perfect. I expect to see a new Macbook with X3000 graphics. This way I can get one for my birthday in April hehe tongue.gif

Steve even said that we'll be seeing Leopard sometime in the Spring. March would be perfect. smile.gif

Can't wait XD

If the March Apple event really does feature Leopard and iLife, I guess the WWDC 07 will focus primarily on the iPhone. Steve said they'd be released in June, so the WWDC's date corresponds almost perfectly. Along with that, they'll make some minor announcement about upgrades to the iMac or Macbook lines to bring them up to speed with Leopard I suppose.

I just saved up enough money for a high-end Mac. I guess I'm going to hold off a month. tongue.gif
flow
yes it will, all the people in apple know it

Although Steve said that he'll show up some other things in the spring, it doesn't mean it will be in march! Still spring begins on 23 of March, and ends on 23 of June! So we all can conclude that a possible date for Leo to be released might be somewhere around the first or the second week of June, just around WWDC 07. And Steve will be right, it will be spring, and he will anounce everything what's new to us!

Can't wait for 10.5 thumbsup_anim.gif

March would be very cool.... maybe its time to start hinting to the wife that a MacPro would make a great 10 th Anniversary present hysterical.gif

The rumor at the moment is that Leopard and iLife and iWork are coming at the end of March - that would be the 31st. Wouldn't it be more likely a day later? since the first of April is Apples anniversary?

Further they could make a real April Fools Day out of whatever they want to do...
