I tried to set OS X to run in that resolution via com.apple.boot.plist, but it's only running at 1440x1050. I want to set it to the higher resolution so that, when I set the VM to fullscreen, it fills my entire screen. Is it even possible, or will I require some sort of nonexistant driver? Thanks.

Why don't you just install natively? You'll be able to get OS X to fill your whole screen and you won't have the vmware performance decrease.

There are a few reasons. The first is that it'd be more work. A bigger reason is that I've got an Intel 3945abg wireless card. Then there's the reason of convenience -- the same way OS X users run XP in parallels instead of bootcamp. That last reason is probably the largest, since I often want access to Windows software quickly.

So, any idea how I might achieve my end? I guess I can live with 1440x1050... I'd definately prefer widescreen though.

1680x1050 is not a VESA supporte resolution, at boot you can see what resulutions are supported with ?video cammand.

So VESA doesn't support it... I thought that might be the case. Is there an alternative I can use?

is there a guide to how VMware creates the Workstation virtual machine? like a spec sheet of hardware reported to OSX? i would like to know what type of display it is reporting during the boot phase because I am currently locked into 1024x768 mode....
