It's so useful using the volume controls (up, down & mute) with a mac keyboard on a mac and was hoping to do the same on my hackintosh with my pc keyboard (which does not have volume controls!!!).
I've searched on the forum and googled it and got nothing.
I've got 3 keys on the far right of my pc keyboard (that I don't think I have any use for in OS X). They are
1. Print screen, 2. Scroll Lock and 3. Pause/Break.
Can I make these Vol +, Vol - and Mute?

Well, the volume and mute controls work fine on my PC. It is a Microsoft Wireless Multimedia Keyboard Ver 1.1.

Hi I use a freeware called Proxi made by griffin. It let you configure almost what you want including sound (with image on the screen...) you can find it on macupdate, versiontracker.....
Hope this can help.

That's brilliant. Thanks for the suggestion. Will report back if it works.

Ok I'm reporting back months later I know but I couldn't get Proxi to work. I'm not sure if it's because I wasn't just able to set it up or if the program just doesn't do what i need it to do.
So doesn't anyone have any other suggestions?

mine has + and - for system volume, but if you are using iTunes you can assign keys to iTunes only volume using SizzlingKeys and i think you can get it to give you the system volume for a 5 dollar shareware fee. hope that helps

Well I had the same thoughts as you and I just bit the bullet and bought a mac keyboard, hell its smaller then my big clunky logitech keyboard.

Ukelele is supposed to allow keyboard layout reconfigging.

Buy a keyboard with with volume controls on them ??? A basic USB MS keyboard doesn't cost
that much.

Controllermate.
Shareware ($15), but it worked so great that i bought it.
Now I have all my multimedia keys functioning. (play, stop, next, prev, vol+, vol-, mute, mail, media etc.)
So I think that you could easily setup your Print screen, Scroll Lock and Pause/Break to do whatever you want. btw, I use applescript to do the action on my keys.

Back when I wrote this I didn't know normal volume controls on keyboards worked. I'm going to buy a wireless keyboard with vol controls but until then I just wanted to see if anything can be done. Also I love my current keyboard. Have become so used to it. Don't really want to any anything else

Thanks a lot mate. I'll look into this.
