I get a constantly blinking _ character and it doesn't load :'( and I don't know what else to do

You need to post a LOT more information if you want some help with that.

Have you EVER had OSX running on the machine?
What is your hardware setup?
What are the names of the software and OSs you are using?

Etc...

I had this problem for awhile, it has to do somthing with the following.

Improperly burned disc, over heating drive (disc errors).
10.4.8 Paritioning (complete hd erase not just partition erase). I used 10.4.7 to Partition.

Hope that helps.

Try making a partition of FAT32, and let OSX 10.4.8 format the partion and not the Harddrive.
