Hey guys, you snuck in a few posts on me ;P
I basically never got around to the VMWare installation; I'm stuck with the IDE->SATA DVD weird errors on boot (got past the /com....plist file error, as mentioned).
I had to reinstall windows, and am currently trying to add in my apps slowly... I was hopeing to have 4 more hdd's on the way, but they canceled it due to them not getting any in stalk for some odd reason.. I would've instantly installed on there.

All I have to do is partition my main hard drive, and test out VMWare, I'll definately try to get around to that Friday/Saturday... Or maybe while I procrastinate my homework, I can do some of the work now ;P

avenger, Interesting you got it to boot after burning slowly with clone dvd...
Please, tell us your mobo specs and your other hardware configuration (how it's all plugged in) plus bios settings and exactally what error you used to get when trying to boot, and the occurance time smile.gif

Well, I'll see what I can do with VMWare, I got 3 different controllers to plug this HDD into.. ohh, gotta wipe some data off my old OS, heh.
Anyways, catcha soon smile.gif

EDIT:
Ok, I've done a quick test with VMWare... I get that famous EBIOS error in VMware, I haven't looked that one up, but I do know Alcohol 120% conflicts with VMWare (I'll have to uninstall it tomorrow), and using MacDrive, I get different errors with the DVD in my drive emulated as a mac or win disc (each get to darwin, but darwin takes a dump with some EBIOS errors, hmpf).

Well, until tomorrow or saturday when I have time, Cya!
megavolkan
Are you guys sure that this is a ide/sata problem?
I tried to install in VMWare and have exactly the same problem
(/com.apple.Boot.plist not found)
And successfully installed my 10.4.5 DVD on an old P865 mobo system

On a SATA hdd of course
mMiniImManN
Well, its (as far as I know) a kernel issue with how it accesses the ide controller, in windows, you have the drivers installed already, so that would mean VMWare should work.
I dont have the IDE->Sata plugged into my DVD Burner while I'm trying VMWare, but I may try it now that I think about it (doubt it'd change anything).

I've uninstalled Alcohol, now need to get daemon tools and try again, or first yet, just leave that DVD in my drive and use it.

And for those that think the DVD is bad; I've used VMWare to test it with my Athlon XP (just verified that it booted..no errors) And i've setup osx86 on another computer with it..

Well, re-doing time smile.gif

EDIT:
Vmware crashes with:
***Virtual machine kernel stack fault (hardware reset) ***
The virtual machine just suffered a stack fault in kernel mode. On a real compy, this'd amount to a reset of the CPU. Caused by incorrect config of VM, bug in OS, or problem in VMWare Software.

Yay, think I'll try the Daemon tools way next.
Looks like I gotta give up on the DTools way for this morning, other computer took a dump on network, think the drive is slowly goin bad on it, that or it's the OS; I'll have to decompress it from my other computer later :\

Oh, I forgot to add in; hopefully with the new kernel being released, it will be able to handle more ide/sata controllers properly, we'll see, maybe the debugger crew will even work on a driver set for them wink.gif

I finally managed to install MacOS X using the JAS 10.4.7 image, using VMWare.

My specs:
Abit AB9 + Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 + GF 9600GT

The setup under VMWare are quite tricky. I lanched a Windows NT machine, two cores, 512MB RAM, CD-ROM IDE 0:0 for the ISO image virtually mounted with Alcohol 120, Bridged Ethernet and here is the thing:
- A virtual hard disk, independent - persistent and allocated within my system. SCSI 0:0. And:
- A second hard disk, the real one, independent - persistent, IDE 0:1, previously partitioned with Acronis, Primary FAT32, 30GB.

First I only used the virtual hard disk but the Mac Installer never recongnized it. So I added the second one. The Mac Installer recognized it and I installed there with all the stuff. I was quite happy, of course.

However, when I booted my machine (my entire machine, not only the VMWare), the Acronis Boot Loader did'n recongnized my Win partition, and I couldn't load the Mac partition. There was a HFS+ partition error or something like that. Now I'm writing this under Windope, don't know why I finally could launch it.

I think the error is the AHCI setup under my bios. However, my Bios is too old and there is no option to chanche the IDE mode to AHCI. So I have to update my bios and find out if I can boot the Mac partition.

But at least I could install the damn thing! I'll keep you posted.
mMiniImManN
Awesome news LawRobertson, I'l be checking your method out tonight smile.gif
Be careful with the BIOS update on this board, I didn't believe the Newegg.com reviews of it being flaky.. well, pretty much, when you update it, call up ABit support and have them walk you through it, and it, so if it messes up, it's their fault. (if you want to go through that hassle)

When I tried updating my board from right out of the package, it was reading from the floppy incredibly slow, then it just flat out started to fail sad.gif
But, second board, using same floppies, it worked, hmpf.

Here's a modd'ed bios that I installed in, seems to work fine, and better than the official.. smile.gif
http://xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=115971
Oh, I just noticed, your board is not the Pro? Maybe this will not work with your board? Hmm, I don't know..
avenger
the hfs+ error is because you didnt keep your macos partition as primary....

AND mMiniImManN i think i got all the problems that are possible while installing mac compress.gif

im still trying to solve the problems

1)/com.apple error ------solved by reburning
2)ebios error------solved by burning with dvd clone(though there are still some errors)
3)hdd not recognized while installing----- solved by installing using the vmware as stated above
4)hfs+ error-----solved by making macosx partion as primary using partition magic
5)now my current problem is hanging at waiting for root device --------still trying to solve
(heard there is some problem with nvidia 4 sata thing) but someone said that there is driver(buggy)........i will try it and let you know)

hope this helps
mMiniImManN
Awesome avenger, I'm still in windows mode awaiting a large.. uhh, 20 hour long queue. Then I get to reboot and maybe think about trying some of that stuff.
Funny a reburn fixed your com.apple.. since I've tried with both 10.4.6 and 4.7 dvd's. I'm more interested in trying with the newest dvd.. but the demon is down for maint at this hour.. hmm. Also, I went ahead and asked about if the new kernel fixed the issues with jmicron.. and the response was mac osx8 6 is not compatible with P695 mobo's.
[but being stubborn like I am, I'll wait till the 10.4.8 dvd arrives to my drives and give that a shot]
Currently, I'm swamped with not being able to test stuff, so will keep watching the forums when I can.
LawRobertson
mMiniImManN, thanks for the bios. I'll find out if it's compatible with my AB9 or not. I would love to call Abit during the update of my mobo, but I'm not in the States. I'll call them anyway. I don't want to spoil my machine.

(By the way, this mobo is not good for OSX86, but excellent for gaming and 5.1 sound. Currently listenting some Bowie DTS albums with VLC)

I'm changing from primary to logical to primary my Mac partition. Then I think I'll reformat the damn thing, don't know. I'm almost completly out of ideas... I should wait until someone share a good howto for Macos install with my spec. Hopefully very very soon!!!
tomtefar
So any news on the Abit AB9 with new BIOS?
Katch
People with PC who's CD/DVD drives don't like booting JaS release DVDs ect - try this method -

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...t=0#entry223466

works like a charm on my C100
tomtefar
Ok, since noone else answered this:

I got my AB9 Pro and this is what works:
*) All 6 SATA ports when in IDE or AHCI mode.
*) The 2 SATA and 1 PATA port on the JMicron controller.
*) Firewire.
*) USB.
*) I have so-far not set the correct PCIclass for the Sil3132 driver so it's not working but it should not be a problem.
*) Network, both ports.

What's not working:
*) "About this Mac" crashes all the time and hardware info is not correctly reported from the BIOS.

I'm using BIOS 15 and running my C2D E6300 at 420MHz FSB => 2.94GHz. Sweet.

EDIT: I started an AB9 thread.
WagTheMAg
so the result is still on going blink.gif

for the first time im going to feel like my computer is so pity though
Finding easy way out from this hell of course, one thing is hit my back of my brains
The key is using the Norton Ghost. so i got up with this just right yesterday
yea it seems to great, all i did was just swicthing ide into ahci type on my bios
after revival of mac partition recoverying
then it worked *BUT* it wasnt noticed my DVD driver freakingly, so that's the reason
why i am stick around here right now
banz
lmao i had same problem after installing 10.4.8 JaS dvd.

then i was like cant be bothered anymore. remove the dvd from the drive and it booted up fine lol.
Agracuta
SOLVED!

fellas the solution is this: at least for me

heres what you do:

VMWARE

make that {censored} windows NT

make sure the HDD your f***in with is persistent and that changes are made immediately other wise you cant tell the mac disk utility to format the drive for you

remove the damn floppy disc

use diskpart to format your drive completely

type in

diskpart

select disk # (replace # with your disc number)
clean disk (enter)
create partition primary id=af (enter)

exit diskpart

go into vmware

launch VM

hit esc boot disc

hit enter to run install

once in there go to disk utility and format your drive for the mac

next go along with the install, im installing as i type this will post any wierdness i have

Has anyone tried installing it from SATA DVDROM to SATA HD, completely avoiding PATA port on the JMicron controller?
RedRiddler
Hi there,

I have the same Hardware: MSI 965 NEO with SATA HD and PATA HD. My DVD is connected to the USB,
but i also have a DVD on the JMICRON controller. On both the DVD readers i get the apple.com.boot.Plist
error.
Did you learn anything more about the issue. Or are we stuck at this?

I am going to try to write the iso with CloneDVD on a low speed, but i have little hope this will
work.

I think the solution to this problem can be summarized quickly and simply.

If you get the "/com.apple.Boot.plist not found" error message and you are trying to boot from an IDE DVDROM, you must boot from a SATA DVDROM.

I'm having the same issue.

I found a solution

QUOTE (paulicat @ Oct 6 2006, 04:42 PM) *
Im guessing the problem is from an unsupported ide controller.
Try getting an ide>sata convertor to connect the dvdrom to your sata controller.

I did, still doesn't work.

QUOTE (mMiniImManN @ Oct 6 2006, 05:32 PM) *
I was thinking the same thing, I read somewhere to change around the way the ide controller's handle's (er, its change it to AHCI or something - I was lazy and didn't go look up what the exactly the AHCI does but might even help)

I'm curious if the way works, if anybody tries it, please tell... I might have to go order one... although I do want my OS drive to be on the normal IDE controller.. hmm.

Ho wdo I change that in my BIOS.
Do I change that while I have my IDE to SATA connector in?
Ghozer
I also have the same error, and same results when pressing F8

HOWEVER!

Im Using a laptop, with an nVidia nForce Board, an IDE HDD and DVD R/W

AMD Turon 64 X2 (1.6ghz)
1GB DDR2 (533) Ram
120GB Hdd (15GB partition blank for OSX)
17" WideScreen

So it cant be the motherboard issue wink.gif

I know the DVD is ok because I used the very same DVD to install and setup on my machine at home.

Any ideas anyone??

I just build a clean setup just to run osx86 and I am coming up with this exact error message problem.

System specs:
e6600 core2duo
gigabyte ga-965p-ds3
320GB SATA HDD
2GB DDDR2
SATA DVD burner

After formating the hard drive and installing the selected kernerls/drivers, osx requires a reboot. after the reboot this message is displayed: /com.apple.Boot.plist not found

Possible solutions? As you can see I'm already running the SATA drives so its not a IDE/SATA controller issue.
JSR
same probleme here.

I installed mac os 10.4.9 (uphuck intel-amd sse2 sse3 universal dvd v1.2): setup ran correctly, but after the first reboot the computer freezed, just after the bios boot, before the mac os boot. If I use the dvd to boot, the os It shows me this error:

system config file '/com.apple.boot.plist' not found

PC:

Asus A8NSLI premium
I've 2 hd (sata and ide) and a IDE dvd burner; I installed mac os on the ide drive.

Just a quick reply. I solved my 'plist not found' error as well as the 'still waiting for root' error VERY simply:

I put the install DVD-ROM on primary master. It did *not* like being jumpered as "single" or "slave".

My setup:

LITE-ON DVD+-RW DL
2 Seagate 80gb SATA drives
SOYO P4VTE motherboard
2x 512mb Kingston HyperX ram
Generic PS2 keyb
Generic USB mouse

The installer is running fine now - another 20 mins and I'll be good to go.
nightfox91
How did you set it as primary master? is that in the BIOS
archimed
I set it to primary master by putting it on the first IDE channel of the motherboard, and then I set the jumper to "master" on the back of the DVD-ROM
Petezter
sorry for my english...

i have the same error after install Uphuck 10.4.9 (com.apple.boot.plist) with my new Notebook Acer 5684 !

I try with a external USB DVD Rom but not successful :-(

I have an AB9 too but don´t have a SATA DVD.
There isn´t another way to install without one?

Thanks!
th3joker
I have a SATA DVD Drive which SATA controller do I use to get the install to work.
ErEr
Because your mac partition is not correct, you all are having this error. I had problem with this with my 945 ICH7 gigabyte board, I tried all different SATA set up for my HD and sata DVD. did not work, Finaly I tried to reformat HD, with "HFS journalled and case sensitive", then I saw small allocation prior to my partition via disk utility, than I deleted this section and reformat whole drive HFS + journalled. Than the error changed to B0 error, which many of us know how to make partition active, and I was able to do clean install.

I had such problem when the drive and partition where I wanted to install os x weren't the first ones, or there was a windows partition before the os x. I had to erase couple of times the drives and/or use acronis disk director to create a fake os x swap partition (ShagOS swap is the type) as first.

If I wait for the DVD installation message time out, I'll get this error message.
If I press F8 before it times out, everything works fine - don't know why!

Hey, all, just wanted to say hi smile.gif

Got same error message on my T42 with PATA hard drive and DVD. No SATA in sight whatsoever. Installed (consequently) 1.4.9 JaS, 1.3 uphack, 1.4i uphack - still same error.
Booted into Ubuntu live CD and looked at the /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/, where com.apple.Boot.plist resides. Looks like it's the only file with permissions fully set to root:root, whereas other files in the same folder are root:80, which makes me think it could be the reason why bootloader is unable to see file that is perfectly there.

BTW, can someone with working system post the contents of the file for comparison?

UPDATE: There's a terminal available on install JaS uphack DVD, the com.apple.Boot.plist looks like it doesn't belong to anyone. However, I was unable to alter permissions, got error: Read-only file system.
darkstaar4
I got the same error /com.apple.boot etc.... on my Abit AB9 Pro. I was using an IDE DVD drive. Now when I used the SATA DVD drive it would get to the load screen and then just stop.. Stating can not find root..

To solve this issue on my pc I had to go into BIOS and change the Integrated Peripherals for IDE from IDE to AHCI and it let me boot up OSX to install.

Attemping to install now.. We'll see what happens.

same problem here .... but got it solved when i extracted it again from the rar file and burned it again at low speed.....

i burned it with clone dvd 2.9.0.1 which even solved my ebios error ....... which alcohol and nero could not

Just curious as to how slow you burnt it?

I'm going to try a number of all of these things in order to try to fix this problem, and I figured I would start with this, since it seems the simplist and hell, the most logical (the burnt image sucks).

I'm using an HP laptop dv9000 series:

Windows Vista

2.000 Gbs ram

160 Gb HDD

16x DVD +- R/RW w/dual layer

nvidia gforce go 7600 128mb

I'll check out the fourm dealing with HP laptops too just incase anyone else using this type of laptop is having a similar problem.
But yeah get the /com.apple.boot.plist not found error right away... so off adventuring I gooo

Any advice would be great, or maybe which things I should try next.
Thanks!
Mushed
ok strange.. when i burnt it slower with clonedvd 2 (at 4x) It wouldn't even boot it at all. Just rpmed up the CD drive and sat at a black screen.
*sigh*

Hi. I thoroughly read this post because i get the same error message (.../com.apple.boot.plist not found). There is mention that this has to do something with chipset 965. Ironicly my chipset is Intel pm965 (crestline). Also there is some mentioning of IDE/SATA DVD drives. Mine is SATA and i still get this error message.
By the way, for installation, i used Leo4All v3! Maybe it is Kernel issue after all.
zef
I think it is fixed by now. JMicron users would be happy with that too smile.gif Read about the details here.
Mamas
Hello. No it's not fixed. My mobo is Intel DP35DP, Intel P35 chipset. 2 HDD's and both SATA, DVD-ROM SATA too. There are no IDE connections on my mobo. Tred Leo4All, it works perfectly on IDE mode. When its set to AHCI, i get error: System config file '/com.apple.Boot.plist' not found.
But when I remove DVD from DVD ROM, My installed Leo4All boot perfectly (on AHCI mode).

Where is that fu**in' problem? ;-/

unsure.gif Hi guys!!! I am new to this fourum and it is my first post so I hope I am doing everything right?! I too have one of the dreaded AB9 mainboards and I have been getting the same error /com.apple.boot.plist. I have now got my system to boot form the disk using a Leo4All install DVD with the applied JBMicron pach...so I ca vouch at least for me that this installer will boot into at least the install propperly!!!

Here comes the BIG BUT!!!

I have not been able to successfully install as yet, it hangs with about 2 mins to go on the install? I will be reporting how I go with a restart and clean disk shortly...I just thought that I would let you guys know that I actually got mine to boot and with what installer!!!

tongue.gif Sucsess!!! I now have a working install of Leo4Allv3 Final. I know this thread is in Tiger but I am sure this will be great news for all the AB9 owners!? My Hardware etc is as follows:

Intel Core2Duo E6850 @ 3.060Ghz
Abit AB9, (NOT Pro) 965 chipset
500Gig Western Digital HDD
4Gig OCZ Reaper RAM DDR2 800Mhz
JBMicron DISSABLED!!! This is the importand one! Even with the patched dvd it froze at 2 mins to go
Pioneer SATA DVD Burner
Gigabyte 8800GTS (G80) 640MB

My install always froze at 2 mins to go with the patched JBMicron fix, was frustrating!!! blink.gif As soon as I got a SATA DVD ROM it went straight through. The only other prob that I had was the 8800GTS drivers that were included on the Leo4Allv3Final install dvd did not work for me....it installed but hung when booting with a black screen which switched the monitor off. To get passed this I didnot select any video drivers at all when installing...after that the boot up went smooth and I had osx Loepard booted, although, it was in 1024x768.

After sniffing around these forums I found a simple automatic nvidia driver installer and I have been a happy osx86 user ever since!!! Woulden't use cruddy old windows if you gave me a free copy... tongue.gif Anyway I hope that this may help someone else who has an AB9 or some other board with this darn frustrating JBMicron controller on it!!!

Another option that I test was, type >>PAUSE/BREAK<< soon after turne on, and before the boot startup (I pressed the pause on the screen of the BIOS, approximately 10 secounds, and than I typed ENTER (ofcouse)

Hi all,

I've been having this problem and decided to see it this is platform specific. I have used both the JaS 10.4 8 and Kalway 10.5.1 .iso(s) and burned the .iso(s)with differnet programs (AnyDVD, ImgBurn and Roxio as suggesgted in earlier posts and at super slow speeds and on differrent DVD burners)) and the end results are the same sad.gif. What is interesting is that these burned DVDs will install on 2 laptops that I have (Toshiba and IBM ThinkPad) without any problems smile.gif. Wireless will not work on my Toshiba but that is a small problem; wired works just fine.

I then tried both of my desktops (Dell XPS Gen4 and ASUS P-5B Vista edition) and i get this rotten error wacko.gif. Then I thought that the main differences between my laptops and desktops is that the dekstops are configured as RAID0. So I broke the RAID configruation and tried the installs. What a surprise !!! biggrin.gif All of the DVDs loaded just fine without this error on boot up. And once I got the installation completed everything worked just fine.

So my only conclusion is that these .iso(s) will not support Intel's RAID software on the Dell XPS Gen4 and ASUS P-5B motherboards.

If anyone has some suggestions as to how to work around this problem, drop us a note.

Many thanks,
ChRoNo16
