OK, as seen here, I bought this mac like keyboard, needless to say, it did not work and not only that, I could no longer get online....

You can read about the adventure here:
http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?ac...t=0#entry137921

So, with that said, the other day, for no reason what so ever iDVD stopped giving me sound no matter what I did, I was using Firewire sound so everything should have been fine but it wasn't, once again, a total re-install!
(Does anyone know what a pain it is to install Final Cut?)...

Anyway, who's to say, what to install, what updates, what programs phone home and what programs will cause the system to no longer work, be it getting online, or iMOVIE, iDVD..etc.

Do real macs have these problems? I know the try before you buy thing is a personal thing but the way I am starting to see it is one never knows when all of a sudden something is going to wreak havoc on the x86.org machines and then you have to re-install again.

What are everyones opions regarding this???

I guess the real question is since there is no system restore the way there is on the mac and I have no idea if I would experience these problems with a real mac (this makes me very wary of buying a real mac now), when the system is running to perfection, should one copy the system preferences and system/library/extensions folder to a new location and would overwriting the ones that where there when everything goes heywire, solve this?

Is there a similar system restore program for mac OSX in case the dung hits the fan?
node64

Nice....

Using BlueSky 2.1 (Same as Lucas Films), going to add surround soon. (Monitors I mean, errr, speakers, not display LOL - -so as not to confuse...)

Anyway, Mackie has a beta firmware update for intel macs....at first with some programs, when recording, I was getting clicks, then I installed the update (firmware) and it works much better. Of course, affter I did that I thought, Oh Oh, I use my PC for my audio (Nuendo, vst instruments, etc......but lo-and-be-hold, it worked fine on the PC, so Mackie made this driver update for all machines.

The AD are amazing. Stick a decent mic ($400+) in front of it and your capturing radio friendly sounds. The DA is also just as good, no brittleness. It sound great. Too bad you can't use it in front of Pro Tools LE though (or can you?) and wished LE had surround....

Quixos, what did you use to do this? Is this what I see when it says use image from the boot up disc, mount image? Basically, I think it was apple phoning home somehow as why would the ole reliable 3COM card always bail me out and now stopped working.

Has anyone here installed programs, both audio/video and had a stable machine for months?

I know for a fact Adobe CS phones home.....can't find which serial box tells you but you have to make some script adjustments.....

Is there a firewall program like ZONELABS?

Again, what if you don't mind me asking, did you use to make the image and does that include all programs?
I would assume you would have to enter serial numbers for certain apps, but that's ok.

Also, if you wouldn't mind, could you walk us through how you would go about doing this, for example, system crashes, or there is no sound, or can't get online, so you want to revert back to working image(s),?

Thanks!!!!!!!!

PS I did a search and could not find how to make a disc image.......mine would be about 30GB once everything is installed!

Thanks

Also, FWIW, when I open Disk Utility and select the MAIN root HD and then destination (another HD), I get the errror....

Unable to create disk1.dmg, resource busy!
