Full Version: 10.5.8 update broke my install

Hi all,

I have searched for a solution to this with no avail.

I updated to 10.5.8 from 10.5.6 after reading that there were very few issues with the new update (Sleep was the only major one I saw). After I updated, however, my machine won't boot. Stupid me didn't take a time machine backup. I know, I'm retarded.

I booted up in verbose mode, found the error was with AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement.kext. I did some research and I found that most ppl got it working by deleting the kext in single user mode.

I did this, but it still didn't work. After days of frustration, I tried a re-install of OSX86 back to 10.5.2 using my Kalyway DVD. Now that won't even work because I deleted the AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement kext. Is there any way to reload the kext or some workaround to get it to not look for it?

Any help would be appreciated. I just want my system back without losing all of my data.

I have a P5K Deluxe mobo
NVidia 7300
Kalyway 10.5.2 sse2 install

Hmm..

I think you should boot your system with OS CD into single user mode then mount your system's root partion and copy AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement from CD to your system partition.

After that you need to fix file system permissions. Then reboot machine.

I hope it'll work.

That fakesmc.kext seems to do the trick

How do you mount the CD drive in single user mode? I've tried to do a mount /dev/sda2 /mnt after i made the /mnt directory. I also tried mount /dev/cdrom and that didn't work. I'm currently listing all the devices in /dev and I don't see any sda or cdrom entries... I just have disk0 and disk1 and a whole bunch of other random stuff (nothing resembling DVD drive)

I'm starting to feel stupid...

[Edit]
I successfully copied it over... I think. Now I'm repairing permissions

Update:

still broke. Same issue. Here's exactly what it's saying in verbose mode:

Extension "com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement" has immediate dependencies on both com.apple.kernel and com.apple.kpi components; use only one style.
kld(): Undefined symbols:
_hpet_get_info
_hpet)request
_rdHPET
kld_load_from_memory() failed for module com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement
Failed to load extension com.apple.driver.AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement //--this is in yellow
Couldn't alloc class "AppleIntelCPUPowerManagement"

any help would be greatly appreciated

I use AppleIntelCPUPowermanagement fine with 10.5.8, but you need to use DSDT and fakeSMC.

I understand that fakeSMC is a kext, but what is DSDT and where can I find it?

[Edit]

I looked up some info on DSDT on the forum and it totally confused me. I have no clue what they are talking about. Is this something that I can download and install from a USB to root in single-user mode (as my machine won't boot up into OSX86 right now)? I'm still quite a n00b when it comes to actual coding in Linux. I've been more of a "install and cross my fingers" kind of user up until now.
