I've bee reading lots of posts on this site and all they sound like
500 cocaine addicted chickens talking about nothing and everything.!!!


I Installed 10.6.0.
When fully booted the desktop does not show up but
I hear the welcome jingle.
When booting up and once I get to the jingle:
In verbose mode I see text.
Booting up with chameleon I see the Apple logo and the spinning beach ball.

Can any one explain to me in the simplest of forms what has to be done to get past this.

There is *no* way past this at this time.

Currently, Radeon 2xxx and 3xxx are *not supported* with 10.6.X

Keep an eye in this forum, and on netkas.org for more information.

Note; I'm not a developer or anything, but I'm stuck with a 3850 too, and I've found no solution to this.

did u try netkas PC EFI V10.4.1?

the netkas 10.4.1 or now the newer version is 10.5

using the command -useatirom works for my 3870

i can boot to snow leopard no problem
before i was getting stuck before the welcome video

but now the problem is that there is no support for QE/CI

so dont get your hopes up
i was point of give up after trying to boot with snow leopard with different methods
second hard drive or usb drive
but problem was the video card

so using the netkas -useatirom and you have to add the .rom file in extra
finally worked after 1 week of trying everything

so now i can get to desktop
few problems i am getting now

1 is the sound - still cant get it work
2 hard drive icons are not in the desktop but they are in the find application
3 video card 3870 is working but no QE support , i cant get iMovie working

you can install iLife but iMovie doesnt work, it will ask you to use a video card that has QE support
the funny thing is that my video card QE is working with my leopard 10.5.7 (same dam system) works in leopard but not snow leopard

i know the sound and hard drive can be fixed using a modified dsdt because my motherboard is the P5K-E
but i have figure out how to modify the dsdt yet
still need some reading to do
my main concern now is the video card - if doesnt work with iMovie why bother with other stuffs

so anyone knows how to make my 3870 work with QE please let me know
or it is for sure that it wont have QE support?

My 3870 is not working under snow leopard.

I can boot, but no res change or QE/CI working

I'm running into the same problem as you guys. I'm waiting until 10.6.2 comes out to see if any developments have been made, otherwise I may just swap out my 3870 for something like a 4870
