Hello!
When I first read about this OSX86 project way back, I thought to myself "heh, sounds cool, but is probably going to be clunky". Yesterday I installed OSX86 on my main computer (took about a whole day, figuring out which release to use, and what drivers to include) and all I can say is wow. It feels like this is made for my computer. I haven't experienced any crashes in programs or system at all! All games work perfectly, and there aren't any programs I experience stuttering with. I don't know if this is the case for some, but that was what I was expecting.
This is all great, but booting up takes a considerable amount of time. I have never seen a mac boot up before in my life, so I can't compare it with mine, but it takes almost 5 minutes to boot up, and I've got a relatively good computer. I installed iDeneb v1.6 lite on a Asus P5K computer, with IntelĀ® Core2 Duo CPU E6850 and a 8800 GTS with 320 mb ram. When I installed iDeneb, I chose the vanilla kernel, because I thought that would be the best option (I don't know if this is true or not)
I can't use verbose to identify what takes such a horribly long time, because it's beyond that stage. After all that horrid text, I get a black screen for about 4 minutes or so, then I'm greeted with the desktop.
But the main reason I'm making this thread is because I would also like to install mac on my old Acer Aspire 1640Z. I actually managed to install the same iDeneb on it (not with vanilla kernel) and it's "working" right now. The problems I'm having is that the keyboard on the laptop doesn't work, and the resolution is extremely low. I know I have some intel built-in video card, but am not exactly sure. I tried installing iDeneb with every intel video driver there was, and only one worked (Can't remember the exact name, but in the category with three choices, it was the one without "Laptop" or "Desktop" in it). I'm also a very big fan of the "magnifying" effect in the dock. When activated on the laptop, it stutters a wee bit. I could blame this on my laptop for being very old, but the cursor flickers as I drag it along the dock, making me suspect there's a different problem, but what do I know.
So in short
My Desktop computer works perfectly, but booting the monster takes about 5 minutes. Vanilla kernel installed and booting in verbose isn't helping identifying the problem
Laptop's (Acer Aspire 1640Z) resolution is low, and graphics stutters. Perhaps due to wrong video card driver (Intel) or something else?
Laptop's keyboard isn't working, an external one has to be used.
Also, how can you install other stuff from the DVD after successfully installing? I purposely skipped installing LAN or WLAN drivers on my laptop, and now the laptop is kind of useless. Is a reinstall imminent?
My knowledge is very average. I assume many things, but I don't fully understand much either. I would say I'm a pretty good guesser.
Thank you for your continuous help, and thank you for showing me how to install OSX86. I love it alot so far!
FAKE EDIT: And how do you analyze what hardware you have? I basically don't have windows anymore, so it has to be somewhere along the lines with using a ubuntu live CD or something
