Yes!

Any particular reason?

Isn't there a different solution, stupid 1280x768 instead of 1280x800!

for resolution change/selection, look into OpenATI framebuffer project,
if you'll be able to fig-out it how it's working, and reimplement it for SIS graphics, then you'll have resolution change.
unfortunately you can't expect any QE/CI except software emulated CI ever, as for it you'll need to port OpenGL accelerator also.
which is, let's say, it's 10 to 20 man/years job to do, so your laptop will expire much sooner.

sis mirage isnt supported the best you can do is change the resolution from the 1200x768 to whatever your res is on your windows os like i have a mirage 3 and mine is 1280x800x32 change it in the com.apple.boot.plist
urdevice/library/preferences/systemconfiguration if these lines arnt there then add them:
<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1280x800x32</string>

then save and reboot

thats my problem too with my SIS m760

even if i setup com.apple.Boot.plist to start in 1280x800 (which is the native best resolution for my vga/screen) the best it gets is 1280x768 which is much better than the default 1024x768 but still seems a little crappy in letters and icons

also i cannot watch video, all video handling apps get terminated unexpectedly probably due to the cards compatibility...

isn't there any solution to this?

dude, hello there, we share a common ground on this one. I also have a mirage 3 been looking for frivers just to let me have the full resolution 1280 x 800 that ubuntu and windows can have, i remember i once tried using the ones from the manufacturer website and they did the same as the mod we did to the osx boot file, it´d just let me have 1280x768 and had to stay with the packard bell restore dvd to have 1280x800. I think its the same issue more or less, since sis launched a driver last year which fixed that, for the win7 beta. My current distro is ideneb 10.5.5 which has already given wlan plus sound, still missing descent resolution, battery support and, sis191 lan, which im currently looking for.
