Okay, here we go....

In the process of moving from windows to mac. Built out my hackintosh as outlined in my signature.

What I am trying to move over to the mac is as follows:
- Rip DVDs to MPEG format (I do this my extracting the raw vob file for the movie and then renaming it to move.mpg).
- Take the MPEG from above and convert it to a nice compressed format for storage on my media server (avi using the divx codec seems to be the best).

So, anyone out there got some recommendations about what's best to do this?

Thanks in advance.

Handbrake - Free, awesome movie conversion software. Can rip dvds directly to .avi.

If you can find it, VisualHub does a good job too. (Out of development and since renamed to TranscoderRedux, but VisualHub itself still works well if you can find it).
