Introduction
After days of research, I've finally got my card to work with OS X! biggrin.gif
So I shall share with you how I did it. (Apparenly the patched framebuffers did the trick for me! smile.gif )
This is also for those who can't download from rapidshare (like me) and still need to fix up their drivers.
This might work for other cards as well. You can try it out and tell me if it worked.

This enables QE/CI & Resolution Change up to 1680 x 1050 on my EAH4850.

Tested connection types
Single Screen
DVI - DVI
DVI2VGA - VGA

Dual Screen
Screen 1: DVI1 - DVI Screen 2: DVI2 - DVI (Source: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177112#)

Not Working
Screen 1: DVI1>VGA - VGA Screen 2: DVI - DVI & vice versa (Source: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=177112#)

How to get my 4850 Asus working!
1. Download EAH4850 OSX Essentials. It contains both 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg and Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg
[Megaupload]http://www.megaupload.com/?d=UJ7YGDS0
[Mediafire]http://www.mediafire.com/?iizzz2tttzr

2. Unzip the file and install 7_radeon_hd_48x0_drivers.pkg first but do not reboot just yet!

3. Install Patched framebuffers for 48x0 and 3870x2.pkg

4. Reboot into OS X.

It should work now.

If video card still doesn't work...
Boot with -s (Safe mode) and type the following
CODE
/sbin/mount -uw /
cd /system/library/extensions
rm -r Natit.kext*
rm -r ATI*
exit

P.S.
I will try to answer your questions but I'm just a newbie who got his 4850 working and would like to share the files needed and the steps I took.

Otherwise, google it! smile.gif

And to everyone who helped me with every part of installation!
Also, kudos to netkas for the patches and drumthrasher109 for his thread.
defeat
And this one here running without these sick converters?
Velvetty
I don't know what you mean but this is how I got mine to work. Just install the 2 packages and you should be good to go.

I could do a DVI - DVI and a DVI2VGA - VGA if that's what you mean.
lupo92
JW, what version of OSX are you using?

I'n going to try this right now and hope this works. That other thread with the "Easy installation" has never worked, and Ive installed 2 different OSX versions hoping it would work.

EDIT -

I got the Blue screen, with start up sounds (which is weird because i never got it before), and the mouse. I did the -s boot, and for the first time i was able to boot again, so that a big plus for me. Unfortunately, the drivers didn't work so I'm stuck at the same old resolution. Thanks anyway
Velvetty
I use 10.5.7
It works for me though. You have to install the drivers and the framebuffers next.

What did your blue screen look like? Was there like a lot of jargon in it? Or just a plain old blue screen with a mouse cursor? And did your screen blank out?
lupo92
It was just a plain old blue screen. Nothing would happen, but I could move my mouse around pointlessly.

My screen only blanks out now, when i dont put the DVI>VGA dongle on the unused port. When i put it on I get the blue screen. BTW the blue screen is in the good resolution. Im at 10.5.6, should I try updating to 10.5.7? Last time I did I had to reinstall, so unless is necessary, I don't want to try again.

OMFG... smile.gif

Thank you so much.

I felt obliged to report back my success history.

Core Image and Quartz Extreme fully functional.

Mobo: GA-EX58-Extreme (rev. 1.0, Bios F7)

VGA: XFX 4850 512mb (this one)

System: Leopard 10.5.8 (Digital_Dreamer's guide, here)

Again... thank you everyone and this lovely community.

Edit
Forgot to mention: dual DVI screens fully functional. ;-) better than perfect

It looks like it's the problem with the OS or computer rather than the graphics card.
Usually if my graphics card can't work with OS X, it'll just blank out and I can't see anything. The monitor then gives me a no signal sign.

I'm not sure about your installation but I used iATKOS v7 to install. My specs are in my sig.

You can ask around if it's the graphics card cause I'm not too sure. Sorry. sad.gif

No problem! It's good to hear it's working well for you! And it looks like dual DVI screens work good as well! Thanks for the update! smile.gif

Lucky you, I had all needed for this test (attached picture)... so I gave it a try.

Sorry to inform you... it doesn't worked.

I my tests DVI_1 is the one closest to the mobo and DVI_2 well... you know.

Test 1
DVI_1 > DVI Monitor = No Signal
DVI_2 > DVI>VGA adapter > VGA Monitor = Signal ok, full res, CI, QE, all ok.

Test 2
DVI_1 > DVI>VGA adapter > VGA Monitor = Signal ok, full res, CI, QE, all ok.
DVI_2 > DVI Monitor = No Signal

So basically if the VGA is used the DVI doesn't work.

Hope that helps

Thank you.
Out of curiosity I will try your method and test the same setup again and let you know. I have Sapphire card.
Edit: And yes sad.gif 1xDVI is working but 1xDVI+1xDVI->VGA does not work. My second display is FullHD projector in another room, 20m from computer. Its cheaper to get a new nVidia card supporting OSX86 fully than to buy a 20m HDMI/DVI cable. Sad :/
If ANYONE have got dual-screen working in ANY ways - please spare me by telling me how did you do it. Im desperated.

Installed Radeon 4850 using your guide. Everything is working great except I get a kernel panic when I restart or shut down. Any idea how to fix this? Here's a brief summary of my setup:

Asus P5w DH
Core 2 Duo E6750
XFC Radeon 4850 1GB
Dual 20' Monitors (BOTH DVI)

Did you get this before installing the drivers? You can try uninstalling the drivers and see if there is still a kernel panic. It might be a conflict of drivers.

You tried everything? Weird but it worked for me. Maybe the drivers you installed?
Remember to remove any ATI drivers you had in the beginning. Maybe there's some conflict somewhere in your drivers.
Kuan_Yi_HK
hello,

Short message to report an other success story.. smile.gif with these driver installed I can now boot normally instead of booting in safe mode everytime.

But I still got the reboot & shutdown kernel panic but it seems that some people have been able to fix that.. I got to look through the community.

Good job and many thanks.

Hello.
I'm quite new to OSx86 and Hackintosh, but I managed to install 10.6 on my system, and updating it to 10.6.1, following this guide: http://lifehacker.com/5360150/install-snow...acking-required

Unfortunately, it didn't install with my HD4850, so I had to put my old 7600GT in, and it worked. Ofc I want to run with my 4850. If I just swap and start the computer, I get kernel panic (screen turns grey and "Push the power button until restart..."). Is the guide in the first post the way to go? Is there other ways too? I tried searching, but I haven't found anything of interest.

Unfortunately, I want to run dual monitors, one dvi and one dvi>vga... Won't this work at all?

Specs: GA-EP45 DS4, E8500, 4 gigs of RAM, Gigabyte 512mb HD4850 (w/ 2 DVI)
The 7600GT is MSI 512mb VIVO, also DVI.
