Hi all, first of all sorry for my english, i'm italian so please forgive me..
I was thinking to build a new rig for audio production/deejaying and for gaming.. My choice is i7, so I bought an i7 920 D0 SLBEJ..
That's the start point.. I have no i7 mobo, no ddr3, no new vga..

Now I'm running well Ideneb 1.4 (10.5.6) on an
Amd 6400+ @ 3.4Ghz
2gb ddr2 800Mhz corsair DHX cas4
Asus M3A78-EM
Sapphire 3850 256mb pci-e
Enermax Modu 82+ 525w
Cooler Master HAF 932
Dvd-RW LG
4 Hd sata
Digidesign Mbox2

I want to build a system fully compatible with osx (possibly Retail) and <<easily upgradable>> to Snow Leopard..
Now I'll tell you my doubts and question about it..

I would know if the Gigabyte X58 UD5 will be good for Snow Leopard, as long as I see here most i7 config have that mobo..
I was thinking to OC too, so I bought a Noctua NH-U12P 1366.. (920@ 3,4Ghz is what i want)

Now I've only the Cpu, the heatsink, the case (HAF 932) & the Power Supply..

I don't know what kind of video card should I buy for best compatibility (4870 vs gtx 260 or other?? the budget is max 200$) the rig will be with multiboot osx/7 for gaming too

Then another question.. Will the Enermax modu82+ 525W be enough for that config with i7 Oc and a vga like 4870??

That's what I choose:
i7 920@3.4 with noctua
Gigabyte X58-UD5
Enermax Modu82+525w
Corsair Dominator 1600Mhz ddr3 3x2gb
Sapphire 4870 1Gb
HAF 932
5 Hd sata (1 WD VelociRaptor for OSX)
Dvd-RW Lg

Any suggestion, tips or advice about that rig for compatibility/reliability will be highly appreciated..
Thanking you in advance for your help in this matter, I look forward to your reply!

I think that machine would be great. Can't go wrong with the UD5 mobo.

The PSU should be okay with a mid-range VGA Card like 4870 or GTX 260, but you shouldn't take the chance buying a OC'ed 4890 or GTX275 if you want to overclock your Core i7 and keep all that drives.

so if i'll take a 4870 and oc 525w should be enough?

I think so, but you should use 80 or even 90% of your PSU on full load. You can check the wattage you need on this website:

the total is around 480w on 90% TDP.. my brother has a cooler master silent m 600w, in your opinion should i try with mine and then swap with his psu if the system crash for power loss instead to swap it before assembling?

These Enermax are the best PSUs money can buy. It should be noisy but keep working. The only precaution would be not to use OCCT (or Linpack) with all your drives. Unplug all the one you don't need and keep an eye on the voltages. Worst case scenario, you'll crash but keep in mind that in the real world, all your components won't be stressed at 100% at the same time.

That's good.. For now I'll try with the Enermax 525.. if it will be too loud i will buy an infinity 750w maybe on october/november and probably I will buy another 4870.. thanks for clarifications wink.gif I'll tell you about my rig when I'll have the retail working wink.gif see you on other posts tongue.gif
