Ok here goes -

**update - vanilla kernel works fine, so you can leave the kernels unchecked**

Download Iatkos V7 and burn to dvd
Boot into your bios and turn all disk options to ahci and turn of all powersaving features on the cpu
Boot into Iatkos V7 and press f8 to enter startup option
Type without speechmarks "-v cpus=1 busratio=20" and hit enter
Open disk utility and partition your disk using GUID (I havent tried MBR maybe its works)
Click continue and customize
Uncheck everything
Now Check the following
iAtkos v7 Main System
Chameleon V2
Extra Directory
DSDT
DSMOS
9.7.0 Kernel Voodo
APIC Driver
Disabler
OHR
Remove TyMCE
AHCI
Intel Sata/IDE
JMicron Sata/IDE
Voodo HDA Driver
Realtek R1000
Post Install Actions
Click contine and install
It will stick for a little while at the beginning of the install whilst it verefies tha packages but just be patient.
After about Twenty minutes install will finsish and it will let you reboot.
Once rebooted you will be presented with the chameleon loader and you can select Leopard and boot straight into 10.5.7 and follow the setup wizard. All four cores will be working with hyperthreading. This install method gives me a very fast and stable install.

All you have to do now is find your graphics drivers.

Sweet. I'm gonna try it on Rampage II Extreme.

I'm in the process of making a Retail install off my USB HDD then I saw your post.
Didn't know v7 was out.

Still I'd like to try a retail install (Never done it before) to learn biggrin.gif
Hopefully it'll work else I'd just use iAtkos biggrin.gif

Thx badaxe2 - for me its working fine with ur guide on Gigabyte EX58-Extreme -
I get OsX installed - however I do not get my grafik card working - neither a Evga 9800GT 512MB ,
nor a Evga GTS250 512MB Ram. I always get a black screen after the apple boot screen - (I then can remove GFX strings and Natit and then I get it booting without Quartz support )

Tried many installs - with the also with the included NVIDIA GT200 drivers (the Evga and the normal ones) and Natit and DVI-DVI Enablers (gfx-strings) - also changed the gfx-strings as per aquamarks guide .
Also tried at first to install without grafic drivers, enablers or injectors and installed NVIDIA_Retail_Mac_Driver_Installer_18.5.2f16.mpkg.zip .

Tried also the new Enabler_for_Nvidia_and_multiple_ATI_cards.pkg with and without injector.
Also tried the same on my 9800GT ...

Further I tried as well my PCI-Express x16 Slot1 and also x16 Slot2 as suggested in one threat by
aquamark when he spoke about an other gigabyte board- but also no change (I of course updated the gfxstrings after changing the Slot)

In iatkos 5i I got it working, but with an old kernel and a bit buggy - crashed from time to time - when playing 3D games or doing GoogleEarth . So I hoped iAtkos7 will change it- but for now it didnt.
(On my other PC with an ASUS P5E-VM D0 with Q35 and ICH9DO v7 works with the 9800gt)

Did you get a NVIDIA g92b running with this settings on a Gigabyte X58? And if with what drivers etc-.
Please give me a hand - what I could further try - thx in advance.

sorry, wrong thread - mod please delete

I have a gtx 280 and i selected the gt200 update (not the evga one) and i also selected the natit enabler. Sorry i dont know about Amd gpus becaus ive never had one.

Thank you badaxe2 - I found the error- although I am a bit ashamed, but I guess its good to tell you in case someone has same problem.

My Monitor Samsung TFT 2493HM was not able to display the standard resoltion and I guess especially the refresh rate... I guess that was the cause that I always got a black screen ...
what it fixed it for me was that I set the boot resolution in
/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.boot.plist

<key>Graphics Mode</key>
<string>1024x768x32</string>

and in OsX I was able to set 1900x1200x32 @60Hz
and now all is working fine- thank you very much for the guide ...

I tried the exact same steps except - I didnt choose Voodoo Kernel. (Hence Vanilla Kernel installed ) I got a kernel panic saying CPU not configured properly!

Am on a Gigabyte EX-58-UD5 board.

Any one got Vanilla Kernel working?

ok just booted off iatkos dvd and installed only the Voodoo kernel and this works......

Thx
Ask you 1 question , Badaxe2

Do you try TimeMachine ?

I haven't succeed in TimeMachine setup in iAtkos V7 ( but no problem in iDeneb 10.5.6 )
My board is ASUS P5K-E that almostly compatible and nearly completely run OSx86 esp iDeneb 10.5.6 ( only sleep is main problem and forever proplem in iAtkos.

For nVidia 9800GT, I use DVI/DVI and old Enerbler as NVinjected ,it works well
badaxe2
Time machine doesnt work for me, no idea why something about cant find network adapter, if anybody has succes let me know how you got it to work.

I got my gtx 280 working by installing the evga package and then then installing netkas latest enabler.

Brilliant! After months of no success with OSX, I'm finally running it with no problems at all! Even my 8800GT works first time. I just used the default latest nVidia driver that came on the dvd (i.e. I checked the box for the latest one, can't remember what it was called - but it mentions that its the latest one).

I'm currently running the following hardware:

Intel i7 920
Gigabyte EX58-UD5
Corsair 6Gb DDR3
Seagate 7200.10 320Gb SATA drive
IDE DVD-RW (NEC 3550)

Thanks for the advice again. smile.gif

HI there Badaxe2 & guys, I successfully installed my system,

Iatkos V7, Chameleon v2
I7 920,
EX58 - UD3R
Patriot Dominator ram 1600 - 6GB DDR3
EVGZ 9800 GX2 ( installed via NV dvi/dvi and NATIT Driver ) shows up correct in About mac as 2 separate GX2 cards!
500Gb seagate Drive

sound works ok, but driver shows as Unknown.
1.
When I Change resolution on my Display .. the kernel changes the resolution then crashes, once i reboot its ok!
Is this because the display is set wrong, or is this more of a Video card issue ?

2. In the About Mac it shows up as a MAC pro 2.1 ... not 4.1 ???
bus speed is running 550 mhz ? and ram is running at 667 mhz ....

Any ideas on how to get the Fsb up maybe to 800 or more ? Also would be nice to get the ram running at about 1066 at least ? is this possible to boost ?

cheers for any Ideas ?

Also any other sound drivers that work better for ALC888 ? cheers for your replies smile.gif

Hi

thank you for the help on this

I have one problem however...

After successful installation using the exact same settings you have guided us to use in the list; everything shows just fine

OS 10.5.7 installed perfectly, my graphics card is just great, with everything showing up in the mac info window. im using the gtx 275

i followed all steps, but as soon as I select the update the OS, it installs fine, but upon restart this is what happens:

the apple splash screen loads fine as it is about to go into the OS

but then a blank screen appears (black)

shortly after this only the mouse cursor appears onscreen and is movable

then the screen turns light blue and the usual loading multicoloured circle appears on this blue screen

it stays this way forever

i do not know why it does this

i tried many installs now. i have tried with default kernels and een the voodoo kernels

it keeps doing the same thing

any ideas please

would greatly appreciate the help

many thanks

PS - to try and fix the issue i went into bios on my ud5 m/b and disabled AHCI

this made OS X boot up once again after the update but upon a new retsart of the system it went back to that blank halt screen, then blue screen, etc...

please can ANYONE help on this. greatly appreciate it.
oh, and i selected the netat enabler for the gtx 200 card upon installation. when i selected only the gtx driver by itself the system would not work.

thank you
bossent20
anyone that can help please?

been trying this all day now

must have gone through 12 installs already

i keep getting the blank screens after first retsart of successfull OS installation
first time bootup into OSX works fine and all drivers for GPu and Sound seem to work

but the first restart messes things up

anyone that can help on this please?

i am using the same mobo and gpu as most of you

i have practially the same system.
corei7
gtx 275

Thanks for the post
I follow the steps.....everything when smooth and work except for the audio. I did like seven system install, working around the sounds kexts. Using the included voodoo hda... and not installing any driver at all for the sound and trying to resolve de sound post instalation.

Using the included voodoo audio drivers i got audio support in que sound control panel, but no real audio output (try headsed, digital out....) nothing worked.

my system is just like the one in the post.

X58 UD3R
i7 920
6gb DDR OCZ OCZ3G1333LV6GK
4870 Vapor-X

I could by an imic and solve the sound problem, but i have been using hackintosh for almost two years without that little device, i think i would be a matter of time to solve the sound issue or maybe i am doing something wrong in the installation...

If someone have some information let me know, thanks a lot

Sorry for my english...

thanks for the tutorial. I can confirm that this works on mu UD5. Cheers

So, what about sound and lan, do they work out of the box?
hobhayward
Should if you have a UD3R. You install the proper kext's etc. during the custom install.

I have a completely separate question though. I have an asrock x58 extreme. I followed this guide to a certain point (tried a few differences in sound and stuff seeing as the audio, and LAN chipsets are different, I figure that can be dealt with later). The real problem though is that after the install it refuses to boot without cpus=1 busratio=20.

Any ideas on ways to fix that, because it's really all I need to get working.

Lan Works with the provided kexts but sound is not working properly only 2 channel no 5.1, 7.1, or digital audio.

Can we update using this method? Setup was easy, thank you for this post.

Working around with this great guide...

First i have a lot of problems following this guide. I was having no problem installing the system. The problem was that i was getting a black screen on the "welcome" without sound (i guess it was because of my monitor not been recognize).."Graphics Mode"=...was not working....

After lot of try and error i decide to swap my 4870 vapor x with an 8800GT....you wouldn't believe me....i installed the system and got the welcome screen with audio....didn't have to patch nothing!!! everything working well out of the box - two weeks ago i installed iatkos v7 in almost the same machine.... X58 UD3R, 6gb, 4870 (normal version) but with another monitor....a dell 22"... i could get the audio working (but i got to the welcome screen)....right now i don't know if the problem is the 4870 - for the sound - or was the new monitor (asus 23.6")....i got stock with a black screen... (was it because of the 4870 vapor x instead of a normal 4870 or was it because the system was not recognizing the monitor ?)

My conclusion is that the video card have a big deal installing iatkos....don't know why....

Right now everything is working well except for the audio, i am using imic....this is how i manage to get my 4870 vapor x working (really don't know if there is a problem with this card of was a monitor issue - not been recognizing):

I installed my system with an 8800 gt them i remove nvinject 0.2.1....
and follow this guide WITH THE UPDATE http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=155477
right now everything is working fine except audio.

installing iatkos v7 with this guide an nvidia 8800gt card is incredible easy....and you get everything working!
i don't know why i lost audio with the 4870...

Sorry for my bad english, but i think this rough text can be useful for someone.
Thanks

I have now got a weird problem. My system is as follows:

Gigabyte EX58-UD5

i7 @ 4.0Ghz

Geforce8800GTX

I followed the details posted below, and got Leopard installed with no problems. Found another guide for installing drivers for the 8800GTX, and got it working more or less perfectly, supporting everything. Even did the 10.5.8 update and it worked fine. So my system was sweet. I was getting an XBench score of around 351. Graphics alone were 375.

Then a mate of mine asked me to try a Radeon HD 4870 card in my system, so i did a reinstall, but I couldnt get the 10.5.8 update to install, it would just hang on reboot. So i went back to my 8800GTX and did a reinstall.

This is where the problems started. It installs fine like before. But now in the System Profiler, it doesnt say Macpro2,1 anymore, it gives my mobo model number, and it doesnt list RAM details now, says it cant be retrieved or something. My Xbench score now is around 200 sad.gif
Another thing I have noticed, the icon for my HDD before was a proper hard drive icon. But now it always comes up with the orange type icon, like the USB one, but with no USB logo on it.

I havent altered my BIOS at all. I have had the BIOS saved for ages now, and even did a restore of it. but same results.

Anyone any idea whats going on? All i did was to change graphics cards, then put the 8800GTX back in and ive done about 5 reinstalls now, with the same results.

Please help.. smile.gif

Tim.

Hi all!

I have the Gigabyte X86-UD3R and everythings works like a charm.

LAN and SATA works out of the box.

My only problem here is it only recognizes 1 core, (when you look at the activity monitor) but when you run only 2 cores in bios it suddenly shows up 4 cores. Off course im using Hypersthreading so it recognizes 2 cores. So my question here is; when im running 4 cores in the bios, does OSX use al 4 cores but dont show up or does it only use 1 core?

Does any one have any solution on this or some experiences?

Yes! But internet is running slower though, But with the Voodoo its blistering fast. Im not using any kext for lan though. Right out the box.

t works now! I had to turn off CPU-Multi Threading. So now it recognizes the 4 physical cores. The only drawback is that I cant monitor the temperature of the CPU but running on heavy load the CPU cooler is not even warm. So I guess Im ok anyway.
Maybe some have some solution on this one to.

So here is my installation list:

Hi, great guide, but i have a problem.

I have followed the guide exactly as it was written, but i didn't select a kernel because at the top it says i can just leave it for vanilla kernel, i follow the guide, everything install great, and i sort out my graphics drivers, and wireless drivers perfectly.

The only problem i have is sound.

I click the voodooHDA tickbox during the install, and it all installs ok, but when i boot up into OS X, besides my sound not working at all (i can press he volume up buttons on my keyboard and the little icon pops up on the screen, but no little noise to indicate it's getting louder) any video and music i try to play, is at a mega fast speed, like 3 times the speed it should be D: I know tis is caused by the driver because i reinstalled it without any audio driver to try and find my own (no luck with that either) and the problem stopped.

So i am wondering why my sound wont work, when i have the exact same motherboard as the OP, and have used the same drivers when i install it.

Thanks for any help biggrin.gif

If you have an i7 CPU you should go for the Voodoo 10.7 kernel because its much faster then the vanilla. Dont ask me why, but making benchtests it is clearly much faster. My machine works perfect now. Im running Logic Studio and its incredible stable. But using the onboard sound is not important when working with music. If you have the money get a firewiresound card instead.

I tried reinstalling again, and used the voodoo 5.7 kernel this time with the same audio drivers as before ( i thought they may be incompatible with vanilla kernel or something, i dont know lol) and the exact same thing happens :S

No one else had this problem? if anyone can point me towards some drivers that def. work for this motherboards onboard audio that i can install post-install, that would be great smile.gif
Tommywomble
okay, i've tried everything i can think of, every set of driver i can find, vaious kernels, all of the choose-able driers from the customize menu for audio, i have tried enabling and disabling the audio option in my bios, i have tried patching appleHDA, i have tried voodooHDA and NOTHING works, at all :/

I am ready to give up on it D: usually from my past experience the sound is easy to fix, but no one has had the same problem as me, despite having the same hardware, i don't get it.

How does your installation looks like? Bios setup, bios version. Iatkos elements?
Tommywomble
All i changed in my bios was the AHCI settings for my hdd, and the power saver settings (like it said in the guide) although i have changed the power saving settings back on and installed again to see if it was the cause of the problem, it wasn't lol.

I chose all of the drivers that i was told in the guide also, so i'm cinfused as to why it worked for the OP, when he has the same hardware, but it wont work for me :/

thats kind of wierd, do you have the Azalia codec on in he bios?

Ok here is my setup so you can try it.

Bios:
turn multithreading off
ACHI on Gigabyte Chipset on

Iatkos:
Chameleon V2
Extra Directory
DSDT
DSMOS
9.7.0 Kernel Voodo
Disabler

cpus=1 busratio=20

This time dont install the VodooHDA.
Dont install Network drivers either. It works out of the box.

Before you install try find out what Soundhardware you have.

Post install the audio drivers with pacifist(google it). It should work with one of the driver in the iatkos DVD.
If not, there are differents threads about HDA drivers.
Tommywomble
Ok i will try that, thanks for the help! biggrin.gif

But won't turning off hyperthreading decrease performance? i will give it a go anyway to try and get sound working one way or another tongue.gif

Cheers

Edit- and yes, i do have azalia codec in the bios, it is enabled, although i have tried installing it with it disabled :/

Ok so i reinstalled it again with the settings you recommended ( disabling my multithreading has affected performance btw, knocked around 1.5k off my geekbench score D:

What sound driver do you reccomend i install for alc888 ich10 on the same mobo as OP (ex58 ud3r)? any possibility you could link me D: tongue.gif

cheers

Great! biggrin.gif Multithreading emulates a second CPU but on cost on the perfomance so it should be more effective.

Check this link, specificly about the alc888. Maybe this could help you out. Dont forget to make a copy of the AppleHDA.kext.

No need to reinstall the system now. thumbsup_anim.gif

ohmy.gif that looks like exactly what i need

Thanks! (if it works that is tongue.gif)

Bad news, just tried doing what the thread you linked to told me, no joy :''( stil nothing, no audio device is detected at all :'(

I also tried the file that was attached to one of the replies in that thread.Nothing.

I'm running out of ideas to try here honestly sad.gif

I gave up on the ALC888 and bought a Audigy2 PCI card but sadly when snow leopard comes out I will be SOL again.

The solution is to have an external Firewire audiocard. Leopard doesnt support audio PCI cards.
The are lots of brands out there. I suggest M-audio could could be nice buy.
Even USB could work. Check combability first.
Actually, I rather use an external card becasue of the latency.

There is actually one thing left to try before buying an external soundcard; my onboard network had a hickup so it died totaly when accidently pushed the network diagnostic in BIOS, but in the windows partions it worked perfectly while in leopard it had no life. So pulled out the battery from the mother bord to reset cmos. TATA, it worked again.
Because your sound should work, maybe this could be your savoiur. But im not sure but try it anyway.
Dont forget to turn of MT after reseting.
Tommywomble
OK i will try that smile.gif

If it doesn't work i will just uninstall OS X, i can't be bothered buying a new sound card JUST for OS X, when other people with the exact same hardware have got it working, with the same distro, and same drivers.

It's very annoying.

Do you think if i tried it with a retail leopard disk it could work? it's a long shot but, maybe tongue.gif
Tommywomble
Just tried that and then tried installing the voodooHDA driver again, still it makes my videos play mega fast, and still no sound sad.gif

Edit- in the voodooHDA prefpane, it has several options in the dropdown menu, but none of them make it work.

IF that makes any difference then biggrin.gif
