According, to http://www.apple.com/macosx/, Snow Leopard will cost only 29 bucks. I'm assuming that is only an upgrade. As a hackintosh user who owns a copy of Leopard, this is great news.

it's great... but we may not be able to upgrade that easily... We (as a community) could find problems like SMBIOS issues... YOU DON"T OWN A REAL MAC, type of thing, potentially new bootloaders, kernels for those on older systems and AMD, and probably new drivers for things as well...

So its great, after we can do it properly.... Or, it could work as easily as a small update like 10.5.7 or something... I don't like the chances of that though. People have already been running the dev copies, but because we can't discuss it yet, we don't know...

I also think that Snow Leopard will be a pain in the ass to implement into a hackintosh, because it require a video card compatible with OpenCL. My ati hd 2600 is not compatible, so I will just wait until I have some money and buy a real mac computer with SL. Leopard will be my last OS X hackintosh in my PC.

I have a Nvidia 9800GT, I wonder if that supports OpenCL, the 8800GT does.

You don't have to have a video card compatible with OpenCL to install and run Snow Leopard. Older MACs don't have it either. You just won't be able to use OpenCL as a feature.

The low upgrade price of $29 is a fantastic deal, and Apple wants everyone to run Snow Leopard when it is available, even Tiger users on Intel Macs, but it may ask you for the DVD.

My guess is that the folks in Redmond (Microsoft) started praying when this aired during the WWDC keynotes because this insane low price will give Apple a great number of new Apple users, especially after Apple launched their new SL ad campaign... which I'm sure will crush Microsoft prices and failing strategy (in the eyes of Apple).

BTW: Have you seen the WWDC keynotes? Look at it at 16:11 when Philip Schiller said: "I like to invite up Bertrand Serlet" (SVP PS X Software).

Bertrand: Walks up the podium and said: "Good morning. Over the yearz ze featuree zet of Mac OS 10 haz grown to an incredible portfolioo and our zlatest releaze... sleopard..."

That's when it became funny. The first thing that came to mind was "Allo Allo" (A British comedy) because Bertrand is French... and so is his accent. I mean you just got to love that accent wink.gif
