Thats badass. The price is reasonable too for a 2GB 285, only just a tad bit more than on the PC side.

Good find, vbetts! A relief about the price difference. I wonder how many people will be waiting to see when and if the next generation ATI 5870 and later Nvidia alternatives will be supported with their 40nm process and reduced power (reduced noise) requirements.

You are misreading the article. The mac version only has 1 GB, but is more expensive then the 2 GB PC version, so this is not so reasonable after all.
What I want to know is: Could we flash a PC 285 with the mac firmware so that we can use the EVGA mac drivers on our hackintosh's?

Yes we can flash our cards with MAC Bios but we need to resolder and remove the BIOS since mac version is bigger

It depends, the card could just be a normal 285 with just bios fit for mac. Just a reference board and that's about it. 285's aren't cheap, so I don't think anyone is going to try flashing it and not being able to use it.

What you can do though, is extract the bios from both a PC version, and the mac version, and compare them.

There's no need. I've just installed those drivers on my hackintosh.
The installer checks for a Mac Pro, so (unless your hackintosh is a MacPro3,1 or 4,1) open the .pkg in Pacifist and install them from there.
It's a full package, it's not just for the 200 series cards.

The 285 can be flashed, but you need to solder a bigger chip onto it.

So, will EVGA's drivers work on my Hackintosh (Nvidia 9800GT), or should I continue to use NVInject?
I opened EVGA's driver installer in Pacifist, and the size of the package is 66.6MB. LOL

Installing EVGA's drivers will not magically transform your video card into a mac video card.
You still need an injector.

The actual driver really isn't different from what we have anyways. Aside from the GTX series, we already had the same nvidia drivers before, which were drivers for the 9, 8, 7, 6, and fx series. I even found sources for nv2 in the package, which is a geforce 2 MX.

So please help me understand here....
I HAVE a MAC PRO Intel (dual dual)...NOT a Hackintosh... and I have a BFG GTX 285 1gb.
It works fine when I boot into XP but not at all in Mac mode.
Can I flash the bios so MAC osx finds it? How about if I installed the EVGA GTX285 Drivers for OSX?
Any other ideas? I tried calling BFG and doing the trade up program but the tech support didnt even know which of their cards work on MAC, but they did know that some do.

You have to solder on a new bios chip, because the current chip is not big enough for mac bios.
