Can I have a link to the motherboard tray please?

I like it... again. I also like that you used a lian li motherboard tray. I have a sneaking suspicion that the same company makes the cases for Apple.

#6 well lian li is the only company there is selling nice looking trays and before I used mac's i was a lian li fanboy hehe
Scottapotamas
which PSU are you using??? and would most standard PSU's fit because i am just about to get a case, and am just clearing up little details...

I have seen the Antec Phantom 500W on macmaniac's mod... Do you think that would suffice?

I plan on using my existing EP45-UD3 sig rig with either my thermaltake 480W PSU, if it were to fit, or a new one!, with either the mobo tray linked in this thread, or the one with the fan hole incorporated!

Thanks

BTW, your mod is nice, and looks simple to do...

The psu i use is a "NorthQ - NQ-4775-650-FLEX, 650 Watt" Dimensions:150*86*160mm(W*H*L)
Its a real tight fit so there is no need to tape, screw the psu in place, its held by the top of the case and the plate inside the case

Hmm I think the motherboard try you link to might be to width. but don't have proff.

but look at my backplate its all most the hole width of the case

Scottapotamas
i think you are right about the mobo tray being too wide. It appears to be 2.5 to 3 cm wider...

Your PSU appears to be almost the same size as my Thermaltake 430NP-A2... but i need a new PSU anyway... Would you be able to roughly measure that empty space near the front of the case? i could end up putting my current one there until i get another one.

Thanks a lot!

Also, how did you get the front panel / headers to work.... Is there a guide here?

Hi,

I'm not sure what space we a talking about ?
Is it this ?

Also the tray to get it to fit you have to cut this off.

Scottapotamas
yes, that empty space... it looks nearly large enough to fit my current PSU...

Thanks for telling me about the bits of the tray to cut!
nerdalertdk
H: 110mm (from bottom to the fans)
L: 170mm (from front to the black fans)
w: 190mm (side to side)

My front panel was HELL to make, there is a lot of diagrams on the subject out there, but can post he ones I used

A little trick.

There is room for an extra disk over the DVD drive, but the disk must go in before the drive. its a nice place to put you TimeMachine disk.
Scottapotamas
a 2.5 or 3.5' disk would fit??? I use only full sized disks, so would that fit??? and thanks for the tip!
nerdalertdk
3.5" will fit fin

Hi.
Nice work. I am, myself, looking to do something very similar. One question - did you have to modify the Lian-Li motherboard tray at all or did you use it as you bought it?

Thanks

Thansk. That's really usefull. What type of saw do I need to cut metal? (Sorry I know it's probably a really basic question but never done it before).
nerdalertdk
Used a Angelgrinder with a 1mm metal disk

Super remember to post you project smile.gif

Quick question so I can buy the tools I'll need. What is the thickness of the metal on the back of the PowerMac case that I'll need to cut? Also what's the thickness of the Lian Li motherboard tray?

Rough guesses would be ok.

Yeah, I'll definately post the project smile.gif
Thanks

backplate is 0.8mm Alu and lian li tray is 0.8-1mm a angel grinder goes through it like butter

edit

the case it self is 1-1.2mm alu, but used the same disk on the angel grinder: 1mm metal disk

Thanks. I'm looking at buying these: Gilbows and this Close Quarter Hacksaw

Do you think these would do the job?

I had looked at those but not really sure I could afford it as I will only be using it for this project. May see if I can borrow one though.

Some ask me the same thing in another tread, but i think the backplate you link to is to wide. it will end up covering the case open/close handle. and then you will have to cut where the fan would sit.

My backplate is around 15cm in width
Renard45
ok thanks what about this?

That one is 17.7 wide.
Don't think it's gonna work

your motherboard tray is the best?

That's my opinion, its only 15cm width the others are widther, and I think they will cover the open/close handle, but wait till you get your case, then measure and compare the thinks.
Renard45
ok thanks a lot smile.gif

Very nice mod! Just out of curiosity, how did you mount the motherboard to the case itself?

I used the lian li tray, then screwed it on the back of the case with 6 screws
