dual boot on alu mac book
i want to install xp or vista it doesnt matter on my macbook
i don't want to reinstall my OSX


the problem is i Can't use boorcamp cause i already have 3 partitions and i mange to prepared the third partition and convert it to ntfs so i can install xp






- put xp sp3 DVD
restart then hold option key choose xp dvd to boot
choose my partition formatted again as ntfs (quick )
start installation and when restart to boot windows for first time again i hold my option key and windows partition appear but when select it i end up with blank screen with blinking cursor at top left corner and windows cant boot
i tried many times and no change
did i miss something ?! or installation without bootcamp is impossible ?
any hint ?
( every time i install xp i found the boot.ini and ntldr files on the middle partitioin !
i copy it to xp part , and mac and still no change )

any one try and google this (black screen... etc on mac ) u will see weird thing , many people got same problem they write posts and more replies keep crashing the post ( i have the same prob < and more weird solution which work for lucky guyes (not me ) and many possople causes some says its screen reslution other say its hardware issue , or wrong partioning , bad cd , missing windows file , iso , RAM issue bla bla bla and no offical response from apple

are you sure you're installing xp sp3 to the "third" partition? If so, I think I see your problem.

Windows XP does not support EFI-based systems (aka Intel Macs). So, what Apple has done with their computers, when using boot camp (or disk utility, both achieve the exact same result) is actually divide the hard drive up in more ways than you think. Using the disk management center in XP/Vista, looking at my mac drive (I only have two partitions, but I believe I can help you) I see a 200MB partition for the GPT Protective Partition, my HFS+ partition, a 128MB "unallocated" partition, and vista. Vista does support EFI systems, so you would have no problem installing vista on that third partition. The 128MB unallocated space is what the disk utility uses to emulate the BIOS so that windows xp can be installed. your third partition (my theory) does not have this BIOS emulation, so XP fails to run.

of course, I may be completely wrong. my minute of googling led me to believe that XP does not support EFI-based systems, but I may be wrong. In which case this is all wrong.

But what I do know as fact, the Boot Camp.app in your utilities folder is useless unless you have no clue how to put two and two together. Personally, I feel more in control using the disk utility (make sure not to use a windows-based formatter as this will not create that 128MB gap you need).

ok now it's another issue since i done plane B which is backup and remove partition 3, 2
so i have one partition as MR.bootcamp want every thing ok i install xp with bootcamp install driver update windows and restart many times with no problems , and it's really fast ( xp )in my macbook its faster than lepord itself


after this great experience (xp on mac ) i go back to lepord to add third partition (didnt give up yet )

that was according to instruction i found on another fuorm to got 3 P

1- after finish win installtion go back to lepord and re size mac P and add the middle one
then boot to xp ( it won't ) insert xp cd fix the boot ,
sound simple but i cant resize my mac P
every time i tried igot this error


file system support required such as HFS+ with journal enabled partition failed

i'm sure my mac partition same as pic in first post nothing change it's already MAC os exten j

well, what most likely happened is that, during your removal of the 3rd and 2nd partition, leopard placed some files in that area of the disk. Thus, while trying to shrink your partition, the disk utility has very limited functionality in moving files. if a file is too big, or too many fragments, i really don't know.

solution: get the free version of idefrag which will let you compact your leopard partition and avoid that error.

if that's not the error, then i may have misunderstood the problem.
