I am doing a project for school on atomic weapon and I have Great Documentary on atomic weapons (Trinity and Beyond) and I want to use the video of the bombs for stock video. I am not selling it or anything so I do not wanna hear anything about copyright laws, it is for school.

So what is the best way of getting the video form the DVD to FC with out losing quality or as little as possible because I will be shooting in HD and do not want the video and stock video drastically difrrent in quality.

if the dvd has copyprotection then use first fairmount

use MPEG StreamClip. you can open your dvd through this program, and export it to a DV stream of Quicktime movie. all the default setting are good to go. i'm not sure if you have options to selectively convert areas of the dvd. last time i tried it, i think i converted the whole dvd contents, then chopped it up in fcp after.

If i can not select what I want from the DVD I am going to import the whole movie (in DV format) into iMovie and just click and grag the clips into a folder than put those in FCP.

That should be easier than breaking them up in FCP. I think that could get anoying!
