I just recently got Hackintosh working, my friend told me I was lucky, and I got the latest version running as well (10.5.5).

I wanted to run Parallels (i dont really care much weather i make a new install, or use my existing partition that im dual booting OSX with).

Whenever I try and run it, I get this message:


Unable to start the virtual machine "Windows XP".



I am not really sure what to do. I don't plan on calling Parallels support team btw, lol.

What CPU is in your hackintosh?

If your CPU can't do virtualization, you'll need to use an older version of Parallels.

Check your BIOS and see if it mentions VT-x or Virtualization. If it's disabled, enable it. If you can't, it's either not supported by your CPU or your hardware manufacturer decided not to make it available to you..

I'm having this problem too, my cpu is intel core2duo T5600 which supports virtualisation, still I'm getting this message and I can't find anything about it in my bios... I'm using an acer aspire 5684 laptop..

I have the same problem with Parallels.

It was working fine on 10.5.6 but after I've upgraded to 10.5.7 it doesn't work anymore!

The upgrade went fine but I had problems with the system profiler and had to instal an SMBIOS resolver to get rid of the problem, but now Parallels doesn't detect the VT capability of my Core 2 Duo E8400.

I think it has something to be with the SMBIOS resolver.

Please help me.

Same problem as el_charlie. Parallels 4.0 worked fine under 10.5.6; but under 10.5.7, no workie.

Any solution to that issue? I have the same problem here with an Core2Duo E8400. Mac OS does not have native support for this processor. On a vanilla installation it is listed as 3GHz Unknown. Motherboard is Intel DG31 which supported VT-x with a E6550 processor.

I installed VMWare, imported the Parallels VM and there everything runs fine.

I also have 10.5.7 and Parallels not working. Had also problem with System profiler and fixed SPPlatformReporter + SPiPlatformReporter. Sad, but true . I'm running Leopard on Dell Inspiron 1720.

I fixed that issue by changing my processor from the E8400 to the E6850. The E6850 runs with a smaller L2 cache and more power consumption because of its 65nm structure. But OSX recognizes it correctly as 3GHz processor with the VMX feature (processor capabilities in system profiler) and parallels runs again.

So avoid that E8400 if you want to run parallels or any other application that takes advantage of the VMX feature.

I have an important update:

In my case it's not a Parallels / 10.5.7 problem. It's my mobo. If I restart my computer the VT-x function is activated again and everything runs fine now.

My installation is vanilla and my CPU is detected fine as a E8400 Core2 Duo.

Try disabling VT-x on BIOS and enabling it again to see if it solves the problem.

I find a solution in Parallels Forum. Simply put Your Computer in sllep mode and then back. (Check before, Virtualisation is enabled in BIOS) and voila, Its runninhg ..
