I applied the ISO and did an MD5 check and it came out fine. When I installed it it still ran 10.5.4. I think I'll just use msiosx for a bit while the 10.5.6 download works.

bcoz u used old ppf (1st ppf i made was to make 10.5.4 nc10... now it is latest 10.5.6 if u get 10.5.6 nc10

Short update from my side:

The Built-IN Samsung 3G modem is working OTB

needed this script to make it work: www.m10tech.com
Evaluation costs 10 Euro

does anyone know an alternative which is for free? Or can anyone alter the script so it works longer than 30 days?
adamcarter
can we order the 3G module and install it into our own samsungs?

Hi Mysticus and other readers,

I'm new here and this place feels like a real great community. Thanks for the ISO for 10.5.6 that I downloaded today. Installing it worked like a charm. I did miss the trackpad prefpane but after installing the trackpadfull.pkg.zip it was present and worked.
After installation I also set up Quicksilver for brightness control. Worked too.

After that I installed uk_keyboard_layout_fix.pkg.zip and the Brightness_icon_Update_10.5.6_.pkg.zip.

I noticed that when I plug in a Apple USB keyboard the triggers work on the NC10's keyboard, but it doesn't without a keyboard connected. Has anyone else experienced this problem or am I doing something wrong. To my idea I followed instructions to the letter.

I have noticed another little strange thing (not a real big problem):
The speed with which the pointer moves when I move around the trackpad is a lot faster vertically than horizontally but that might have to do with the strange aspect ratio of the NC10's trackpad. It's almost 2:1 instead of 16:10 of the screen.

It's quite exciting to have Mac OS X on a subnotebook while Apple stalls and stalls with releasing there own small laptop.

That's great! Now all we have to do is to find a way to buy these components to the computers that miss 3G.

Very good! biggrin.gif

epinephrin: thanx for sharing info about 3g modem, can you confirm whether it is connected via some special method? or via the other pci slot where most of us have the pin location but no pci slot attached to it... (when you open the back cover, you will see one wifi on one pci slot, and one you can see connection pin solders but no slot attached to put in another pci card... meaning even if you buy one 3g modem u may need to swipe it with wifi...) i m just speculating without seeing how the 3g modem connected... smile.gif

adamcarter and swe-gargamel: read above paragraph

aquduckles: enjoy mate smile.gif, also for the touchpd sensitivity, is probably caused same reason you mentioned... mostlikely it has speed settings built in for vertical/horizontal axis in the driver, never checked it though... it may be hexable smile.gif but i never looked into it... currently, the issues we have are minor and liveable smile.gif...

after voodoohda is released, we will have only LAN issue left... for sleep, i was talking "the king" on irc, and he kindly provided his solution although he wasnt as kind in his other topic regarding hda... smile.gif he didnt answer my question but he answered others so i was mean to him and he got mean back at me smile.gif

anyways... that his hda solution topic which he collected to quite sum information has limited use opportunities to certain hda codecs due to built in support, or no support smile.gif so to some degree i got some functionality from hda but not full... so only hope is that voodoohda will do what we cant do with official applehda drivers.... soon....

Thanks for the fast reply Mysticus. Have you got an idea why the triggers don't work? Or am I just overlooking something?

Hey Guys!

I have downloaded the NC10_JaS.OSx86.10.5.6.Intel.SSE2.SSE3_Mysticus.iso and installed it on my Samsung Nc10 via external DVD. I have followed your guide but after insallation the Osx bootloader appears and iīm able to choose between Windows XP Home SP3 or OSX. Windows still run but if i choose OSX it starts to load, on a white background you can see the apple logo for 3-4 sec, and then it restart itselfs. Please help iīm trying since 24h but not working.

why don't you change your first page of your guide to explain what happens if you don't change to the correct settings (ie a mini FAQ). This would save all us halfwits annoyng you.

Deleting the triggers and adding them again without the USB keyboard connected didn't work. Is it possible to de-install the UK keyboard fix? Would be great. Thanks!

Mysticus, with the current speaker driver on 10.5.6, the FN+F6 doesn't work anymore. It doesn't silence the internal speaker.

Hi Mysticus, Switching to British and back to Dutch solved it. Everything is working again. Thanks for thinking with me!

Just like to chime in that I followed version 2 of the pdf install instructions on my NC10 and I have OSX running perfectly in a dual boot situation. Thank you so much!

Can anyone explain to a dummy how to acquire and install iLife, is that included with the install package and I forgot to install it? I'm looking specifically for garageband.

Thanks!
aquaduckless
Abirch: iLife is not part of the ISO. The most easy way to install it is to either install it with the official DVD from an external USB DVD drive or create an ISO from the DVD with Disk Utility (part of OS X). You can then transfer the image to your NC10 via USB stick and mount the image.
Of course there are also plenty of ISO or DMG images to find in the green fileds of bittorrent. But I can't guide you there ;-)

Dark Gemini: I have no problem to silence my speaker with fn-F6 with an installation from the 10.5.6 ISO.

As I mentioned on my blog I'm now able to get almost full use of OSX with only the modified GMA extensions, the modified IO80211 extension, the two PS2 extensions (although one of these may be preventing the 10.5.6 Trackpad PreferencePane from appearing, despite edits) and AppleACPIBatteryManager.kext.

I tried without this last extension, and I lost the battery data. However, it was whilst I was experimenting with either an alternative AppleACPIBatteryManager or with AppleACPIPlatform that I hit the same failure to resume from sleep.

So the answer appears to be, rather than trying DSDT fixes (I have a DSDT.aml based on the 02CA firmware available for download from my blog, if it's any use to anyone), to instead try a different set of ACPI extensions.

Sound:
Fn+F6 works fine for me on 10.5.6 using the modified AppleAzaliaAudio extension.

SSD:
I swapped out the disc for a OCZ Core Series 2 30Gb SSD, which I got on a special-offer deal with about 30% off the usual price. Before swapping out the disc, which I did before attempting to install OSX, I ran a benchmark and the disc's performance was just slightly lower than the SSD's stated performance. Since the SSD has never had Windows installed upon it, I have not re-run the benchmark to confirm this.

For me, the main advantages are no moving parts and no noise. The performance seems good, with a restart (with verbose BIOS screens) taking 25 seconds desktop-to-desktop.

From a full charge, the battery meter quotes 8 hours 35 minutes run-time (with screen brightness at 25) - which seems entirely accurate after a day's usage. I don't know how this compares to NC10s with discs...

The SSD is a drop-in replacement: all the screw-holes are in the same place, and the SATA interface is standard. All that is needed is to remove the shield from the existing disc drive and swap it onto the SSD. Given that the disc is only held in by being sandwiched between the bottom of the chassis and the mainboard, having a non shock-sensitive device installed has to be a good idea...

How come FN +F6 doesn't work for me? iTunes still play even the mute icon when I pressed FN+F6. what is the correct setting for sound? where did you get the modified AppleAzaliaAudio extension?
robbmc
I'm having a couple of small issues, nothing major, just wondering if anyone has an easy solution...

I am still waiting for my dell1490 to arrive and in the meantime I would use the data connection on my Sony Ericsson w910i for connecting to the internet. However on the final stage of setup the dialog froze and now when I power up the bluetooth icon is faded and I cannot turn it on. It still shows up in system profiler. Any ideas?

[edit] I finally figured it out, I simply removed the device and when I clicked to adda new device it gave me the option to turn bluetooth back on. I managed to get osx to use my phone's 3G connection, this'll do until my card shows up smile.gif

And also... it seems as though osx thinks the trackpad is in a 4:3 ratio and so tracking vertically moves and little faster than tracking horizontally, anybody noticed this? No big deal, just a little annoying. I am going to use this as an excuse to install a touch screen biggrin.gif

Oh, thought it was supposed to run 10.5.5. I'm downloading the 10.5.6 PPF from RS, just wondering why you don't make a torrent for that? Or do you get something from RS for hosting it there? (Which would make sense)

The solution is simple.

On the first restart of Mac OS simply remove the external DVD-Rom/ externel drive. Mac OS starts normally, and you can without the DVD-ROM / externel drive to complete its installation. Must you may skip the regeistrierung (apple-Q / (for Windows keyboard Alt-Q ?)).
I've done it and it works without problems.

Sorry for my bad englisch wink.gif

Hi Mysticus C*,
Thanks to your hard work in getting all this info and install packages together
I now have an almost perfect portable mac.

As stated before I do have msiwindosx + your upgrade packs to 10.5.6
and the brightness scripts and headphone switcing etc etc is all working.

The only slight niggle is the before mentioned fn+f6 not muting
and not having a working battery indicator.

As before I deleted the AppleAcpiBatteryManager.kext
and when 10.5.6 boots the battery indicator briefly comes up
and then dissapears...wierd.

If you can possibly help with just this, the mute thing is not
really important to me as turning the volume down works.

As a reasonably tech savvy newbie, but newbie nonetheless, I just wanted to add my thanks to this forum, and Mysticus C* in particular, for an excellent guide.

I went the route of updating JaS 10.5.4 with the Combo 10.5.6 update, and also utilising ddmac for installation without a USB DVD.

Everything went perfectly first time, and I'm amazed how quick and responsive Leopard is on the Atom.

I have now just finished swapping out the Atheros WLAN, replacing it with a Broadcom 94321MC, which was sitting in a MacPro and surplus to requirements there. It worked immediately under Leopard, and required a new driver for XP, which I found here:

http://www.wireless-driver.com/driver/broa...321.802.11n.rar

This card claims to support 802.11n, although currently I have no means to verify.

Thanks again for a great forum.

there is one message strucks me is that hda driver has trouble loading, but nothing serious for loading desktop... it should not have trouble loading...

this is nc10 10.5.6 iso right? latest? and main installation finished successfully? and bios settings are correct as it is shown in the pdf guides' first page! exactly the same... like EDB enabled and such... double check it please and make sure you set your bios as shown on the picture... also you are not using any external monitor/no external keyboard right? also no attached external hdd while booting osx?

and if everything shows up as correctly, your desktop should have loaded... after those lines, since it is not loading, your answers to above questions is important, because you may have damaged iso or damaged files... so i would suggest you to check your ISO's md5! adn try to read and learn the ddmac method which will be a safer option for future unless you plan on using only osx on the machine and nothing from windows...

Hmm very strange i have checked everything ,latest iso, bios etc. no chance. Itīs weird cause i try iDeneb 10.5.5 it works for me but i canīt fix the display resolution from 800*600 so thatīs the reason i wanted to try yours. Could it be possible that someone can post a working kext for the graphic of the NC10 so i can change into 1024*600. All in all Mysticus C* and the other thanks for lightning fast support and have a happy new year !

peno: keyboard fix is not really fix it is just a remapped layout for certain keys on UK keyboard... german keyboard should work i think... but make sure you have a wifi installed as previous german users pointed out, so taht you dont go into loop in account creation...

Hi Mysticus,
it seems all my problems were due to having installed patch v1.1 and not realising
that there was a 10.5.6 patch out ..... so i am very happy and now have a working battery
icon and prefs, many thanks.

The only reason i did not go the jas + ppf route is because my internet provider has download
limits and the msiwind iso took a lot of the bandwidth for this month.

yeah it is kind of true i should have made it auto checked (only a matter of true/false value), but people should learn to read a bit carefully as well! smile.gif... i already said it in the guide to check bios screen, and customize window to choose the options... still people passing on important stuff...

Niteman - can you tell me exactly what you did to move the msiwindosx install on your nc10 from 10.5.4 to 10.5.6, plus the brightness and audio/chud packages? I was involved with this forum back when Mysticus was just starting the work, and I found the msiwindosx easier to deal with (Mysticus hadn't yet done all of the wonderful packages by then). But now I have too much loaded up on my nc10 for me to want to have to deal with the full reinstall (including other software, mail stuff, documents, etc.). However, I would love to do the upgrades to 10.5.6 with the additional goodies if possible.

Hi Mate,

First of all i downloaded the v1.0 upgrade pack by mysticus c* from bike town link
and the 10.5.5 combo update from apple , then ran the v1.0 upgrade pack
and installed the pre-install update enabler only.

Then I ran the 10.5.5 combo update and do not restart afterwards.

Then I ran v1.0 upgrade pack again and chose the right options ie vanilla 9.50 kernel with shutdown
fix , chipset drivers , graphic driver , sound driver , ps2 fix1 , and post update fix dsmos fix only.

After this had installed i also did an apple software update , allowing it to update all software
EXCEPT the 10.5.6 update.

After this has been done hit the restart button on the apple 10.5.5 combo installer.
It then reboots a couple of times and your 10.5.5 is up and running.

Next download 10.5.6 combo update from apple and 10.5.6 update pack from mysticus c*
run 10.5.6 combo update and do not hit restart button at the end.

Then install mysticus c* 10.5.6 update pack from mysticus c* and once done you can
hit the restart button on the apple 10.5.6 combo installer.

This will reboot a couple of times and then you will have 10.5.6

Then all you need to do is download the trackpadfull patch and chud from biketown
Install these and also the enhanced brightness icons from biketown and follow the
instructions on about pages 105 or higher of mysticus c*'s nc10 v2 pdf manual
also on his biketown page listed on post number 1 of this thread.

After all this has been done make sure you do a disk permission repair
and you will have a fully working 10.5.6 upgraded install.
